It's just such a big mess. All the images we're receiving are heartbreaking. :'( I had 4 colleagues in Brussels on 3 different locations, all in the very center, have been trying all day to get them back home (no taxis or trains). Finally late this afternoon (belgian time) we got them back. My boss was on his way to the airport this morning for a flight at noon, luckily he wasn't in the airport at the time, he was able to turn back. We've been running around dazed and numb all day long. Somehow we saw it coming, like it was inevitable that something would happen here, but when it does happen, it's such an incredible shock. I'm back home from work, but I'm still shaking and trying not to cry very time I see new images.

I will never understand why people do these things. You can explain it to me a hundred times over, and it still won't reach me. I understand being angry and hurt and things not going your way, but why hurt innocent people? Why hurt anyone? I suppose I'm too much of a pacifist. I really don't like using the word "hate", but I hate this sort of thing. I'm enraged, terrified, and want to hold my loved ones even closer.

I don't really believe in any sort of god, but it's things like this make me pray. I will fight for a better future until there's nothing left of me. This cannot go on.

Feeling the pain. I am on holiday, but many friends and colleagues were in Brussel today. Been following the news all day long and it just took all the energy from me. Even here in Gent the atmosphere is different, more subdued. I agree we sort of should have / could have seen it coming... But still. After the arrest of Abdeslam everyone was so positive. And now it is a nightmare. :(

While I am sad for all these people and families, I'm also pained to see that a lot of people from the Maghreb and such will be victims as well. There will be much more hate and violence in the next couple weeks. Extremist aren't only taking lives, they are tarnishing people and producing a lot of hate.

I'm just very sad about all of this.

Yeah, we've been getting nothing but warnings of imminent attacks since the Paris attacks. So we could see it coming, but at the same time were thinking that things like that just don't happen here... I'm also in Gent, by the way.

Very true. This is a field day for anti-muslim and right wing politicians and organisations. It is sad, but they will use it to push us into an even further right wing government. All the while using the recent migration wave from Syria and surrounding areas as a "reason". As if refugees equal terrorists.

Well, then will hopefully do what Belgians always do. Buckle down and get on with it. Like we say, nie pleuje!

This is so very horrible. My heart and thoughts are with the people in Belgium, especially the family and friends of those killed.

I used to live in Brussels and have so many friends there. D: I feel so sad for everyone involved.
