So, I use Tinder, much like many a millennial my age, because the old days of meeting in a smoky bar or a sports game is probably long dead.

Does anybody have any good, bad, interesting stories about people they've met online or dates with people they've met online?

I don't have anything that are particularly engaging. I've been on a handful of "dates". All to a local bar or restaurant. Generally, they don't look like their profile photo. Only one, that I still speak to, has actually sounded like he did online. There has been another, but I lost touch with him a long time ago. He was pretty cool. It's weird but... its like a missed connection, kinda deal. Could've been good

Alright, story time~ ❤️

I've never used a dating website or app, so I can't comment on that - but I did meet my husband at a bar, so your line about the old days probably being long dead did give me a bit of a giggle. =P (And this was only four year ago - dating sites were already popular, and I think Tinder was just becoming a thing around then, too. XD)

That warms my heart actually. There's something so romantic about meeting your true love in the heat of the night, whether it is in a dark dive bar, or a smoky nightclub.

Looking back, it was quite romantic, really. The bar doubled as a nightclub on certain nights of the week, which it was that night. I was with my friends, he was with his - but his friends and my friends went to high school together, and our groups merged. We ended up breaking off and just talked for hours, and ended up getting kicked out since we were still going long after the place had closed. It's one of my fondest memories. =)

I did use a dating site a few years ago (used to be called myyearbook) I forget what its called now :p Went on two TERRIBLE dates. Most of the guys were nice through messages but so un-thoughtful and/or rudeish in real life xD Met tons of weirdos just to chat with as well.

However this isnt a dating site, far from it actually xD I met a guy on neo. We chatted a lot. Added each other on fb. And oddly enough, it was perfect (almost) ;) We dated ldr for awhile. But ended up breaking it off for various reasons :p

Its just weird how you meet someone somewhere when you least expect it... and the dating apps... are usually nightmares xD Imo.

That sounds like such a perfect night & so adorable! I love hearing stories like yours.

That's very similar to my experiences as well. Theyre super polite online, and then turn out to be unthoughtful, rude, or boring in real life.
That's actually ... not weird. To me, at least. Because something similar happened to me too. On neo, as well. Granted, it was years ago, and I was a weird teenager. We never dated, but I had a guy friend like that too. We tried to meet up, but of course - being underage and unemployed, it never worked out. Lost touch with him too. Oh well, probs for the best.

I've also been on a handful of dates with guys from online sites. The one guy looked nothing like I thought he was going from his photos, so naturally that didn't work out.

The other one I met was convinced that we were like... basically soulmates. He wasn't bad looking, but his self-deprecating, boring, uncertain way he did everything just completely put me off, and then when he continued to pursue me despite me being aloof and generally disinterested, he wouldn't back down... so that was fun to deal with.

I've signed up for a few dating sites (the usual ones) and the only guys who messaged me were old enough to be my father. I got grossed out and deleted all my profiles because most of them wouldn't take the hint when I didn't respond and would keep sending me likes or winks or whatever.

I do have a crush on this guy I'm friend with on facebook. We met on the Dork Side Group. We've chatted a few times on the comments section and I would like to talk to him more through private messaging but I'm super shy and terrible at this kind of stuff. I know what to say, I just don't have the guts to message him. The other problem is he lives several states away from me

I have never used any online dating apps or websites personally, but two of my friends have used Tinder. I know that my best friend actually had a good experience with it. She's dating the guy she met through Tinder now actually, and I know they were planning on moving in together. I think they did last month. So in her case, so far so good. It sounds like she really likes him and everything has been cool, and she's not afraid to speak her mind about someone lol.

For my other friend, he met a girl through Tinder. This was maybe two or three weeks ago, so nothing has really resulted from it as of yet. They coincidentally go to the same school together so they have met up a few times. He says he likes her but I'm not sure what will result from it.

I also ought to mention that in both situations, the people matched the pictures that they posted on their Tinder accounts.

If somebody just want sex I'll lose my interest. I believe a relation could even exist if this is pure platonic. In any case I want to love the other in the beginning only on a platonic way.

I think the most people are nice and normal and the biggest weirdo am I. :P

There are a few other weirdo's and they were really nice.

But... I don't want kids and this was always the breakpoint. The responsibility I must take for children, I absolutely do not want. I'd rather watch a bloody operation on television than to a childbirth. Brrr!

Different tastes of music and programs on TV or on the radio or on the internet could be also a problem.

Haha I have multiple and they are all sad and/or disappointing. I had two dates in a row during the holidays from a popular site. Basically I met both girls, the first for a coffee date and she was kind of nice at first. Her humor was pretty out there like mine, but the next time we went on a date we went to a place there was a long wait for, she said wtf and made a huge scene, people were whispering and told me she wanted to leave. We go to a movie theater and the only seats were at the front of the theater, she just went off on the girl behind the counter, I had to apologize for her swearing at her. She then decided to light a cigarette outside and we started walking to my car, and I told her she can't smoke in my car, she got pissed off at me. Then I took her out for dinner and then dropped her off at her place. She then complained that I did not kiss her or anything so I leaned over just for a peck and she shoved her tongue down my throat. Probably the worst and most forced kiss Ive ever gotten. Then I didnt contact her again. Told her I was busy with life. She also wanted to move it forward. I like things slow but she wanted to go extremely fast. Probably my worst date.

So in short avoid dating websites. They are super weird.

People who would want everything will develope fast in a relation are not my cup of tea too.

An other point on dating sites and on the internet in general.

Nothing is so simple as a misunderstanding.

I've had my fair share of dates from dating sites (usually Okcupid). I'm not the most sociable and don't really know how to pick up other women when I'm out, say at a bar or something. So dating sites are the way to go for me. I'd say 95% of my dates just weren't great. I did meet one or two friends that way. And I met my current girlfriend/who I believe to be my soul mate from online dating. So, it isn't all that bad. But it did take me about 6 years of online dating to find the right person and MANY MANY failed dates.

I used Okcupid for a few months a couple years ago. I really wish someone had told me it's pretty much a hook up site. Or maybe it might have just been the people I was getting matched up with, I don't really know. Most of them acted like pigs, though. I did meet some cool people who I later became friendly with. But, nothing ever really stuck relationship or friend wise.

I don't really have any interesting stories, unfortunately. I did get hit up a couple of times for nude modeling jobs. I don't know how legit those were because I always refused, but yeah nothing really weird. Oh, but once this guy hit me up and pretty much tried to interview me to be a new mom for his kids. He came on SUPER intense about it too. And keep in mind this was when I was 21 and going through a party stage. I was not, nor ever will, try to be someone's mom.

Honestly, I'm not really interested in trying online dating again. I'm pretty content on being single for a while. I might try to use it to make friends again, since I recently moved to a new area, but not for dating.

I never really used an online dating app but I know SO many success stories! I would read up on safety tips for going out and also bring a friend that can spot you in the distance. Good luck ~ ❤

I've used tinder for more than 2 years now.

Tinder, is quite boring here in my country. The guys are super shy. I'm old fashioned and let the guy take the first step. And what do I get. One single "Hello" for every 20-30 matches. I happily answer hello back. And silence... I know I could continue the conversation. But, I'm hoping that there would be one guy who would be brave enough to start a conversation! Well, a few have, but those are all foreigners.

I also use tinder when traveling to other countries to meet up with locals. Have to say, that I don't really expect to find true love through tinder.
