I remember that some items that aren't technically masks have counted as such in previous years. Is there a link to that info, or does anyone know the guidelines for determining if an item would count as a mask or not?
http://www.subetalodge.org/list_all/notes/masquerade+approved should show most, if not all, of the items that count as a mask for dancing
Thanks for the link! :) Just paging through it a little bit, I see almost everything says "mask", but I'm thinking that some scarves, etc… were also allowed. I could be wrong… (I see phoenix tail feather is listed -- that was one of the things I was thinking of.)
I know that things that cover the entire face like some headdresses, are okay. But weren't there some things that only partially covered the face that were approved? Do you know offhand?
Every single mask released during masquerade is eligible, as well as the old mardi gras ones.
oooh, yeah, I have no idea about any scarves or anything like that, sorry XD;
you can layer some approved masks below your HA. As long as this approved mask doesn't stick out past the HA boundaries (because backdrops are not reproduced on the ballroom floor) you can wear anything else you like. You can pretend that by these items you are using instead make you "masked" even though they are not complying with the holiday requirement.
This does give up one of your layers, though.
Thanks for the tip! :)
(hopefully THIS time it will post…)
you are welcome. One of the funnest things about the Masquerade is seeing folks' dancing costumes, some change every day. I'm sure yours will be great!
The first two years I changed at least once a day. Last year RL was a hassle, so it was all I could do to change twice a week. We'll see what happens this year between RL and site glitches.
I have never had a perfectly working wardrobe during masq since I joined. I wonder what that is like… lol
There are some Masquerade masks that only cover one eye or part of the face instead of all of it, maybe that could be what you're thinking of? But like said, you can layer an approved mask behind your HA and then use something else to incorporate into your outfit.
No. I was thinking of things like the phoenix feather that are masks, but don't say "mask" in the name, nor are they typical-looking. The masq half-masks are certainly unusual, but they do say "mask" in the name. :)
Ah, I see. Yeah I'm not sure about those, I guess you could always try and see if they work once Masquerade starts.
People forget to put their masks on or the Masquerade is new to them so they realize they need to get one and put it on. This crashed the v2 and beta Wardrobes in the past, and on times where this didnt' happen, the Forum couldn't handle the sudden HA changes. I don't know how well the v3 Wardrobe we're using now will work with the sudden intense demand. In the past, it and Forum issues also resulted in long delays until folks could dance while the cache caught up.
I'd mask up ahead of time, for maximum Trinkets. If you want to experiment, this will be fun, but it might be wiser to wait a few days.
I'm sure they're in the list but there are also a few hand held masks as well as at least one mask that is on the head or hat layer, for those who have face layer hoarding. I can get the item names when I'm on my laptop.

I think [item2=Esteemed Ladys Mask] and [item2=Esteemed Lords Mask] are a couple of the handheld ones that work.
[item2=Seashell-Adorned Aquamarine Mask] is in the head layer, I'm not 100% sure if it counts for Masquerade though.
I am almost definitely sure this counts. It's in the hat layer.

There are a number of Legend of Zelda tribute masks that were CS (I think) items, they were part of some chance machine. They were hats and hair and had foreshortened looks based on the masks in Mask of Majora and Ocarina of Time. Many of these are lifted up into the hair like you might do with a pair of sunglasses when you go indoors.
