my boyfriend and i are going to dc for a few days! driving up on the 17/18, and driving back on the 24th. i was wondering if anybody has any recommendations as for what to do, see, where to shop, eat, etc! we both want to eat at restaurants that are fairly local, instead of eating at mcdonalds or something lol.

any help would be appreciated!! :)

I LOVE D.C. I AM SO JEALOUS AHH. My boyfriend and I went up in Januaryon our latest trip for the weekend and we had sooo much fun. We try to drive up a few times a year (we only live a few hours away).

We went to see the Jefferson Monument, Lincoln Memorial, WWII Memorial, Washington Monument, Holocaust Museum, and the Renwick Art Gallery. If you can hit all the monuments in one day and then go to museums the next day you can do that, or mix it up. We didn't go to any of the Smithsonian museums but that's because we'd already seen them before, but I DO recommend them. You probably won't be able to hit every single museum and monument you want to see if you'll only be there for a few days, though.

WEAR COMFY SHOES, it's a LOT of walking, but it's a very pedestrian-friendly city (wide sidewalks, crossing lights, etc.). In the tourist/business district it is very clean and safe, no weird hobos going after you, lots of people jogging, and fairly calm traffic during the day but it gets INSANE during rush hours so BEWARE.

As for food we always go to the Wicked Waffle for breakfast/lunch. We splurged and went to dinner at a Greek-seafood restaurant - it was not cheap at all, but the food, service, and atmosphere was absolutely wonderful. Every other meal we ate at our hotel (I had a discount card so it wasn't too expensive).

That's just what we like doing, but I hope you got something out of all that, haha. If you have any other questions then you can ask me, Google, Siri, Yelp, whoever, haha. Have fun!!!!

DC is so much fun. I haven't been there in years. You have to go to the Smithsonian Museums and Arlington Cemetery. Standing at the Kennedy Grave Site brought tears to my eyes along with seeing the Wall (Viet Nam Memorial). It's been a very long time since I have been there, but if you are able to, there is a BBQ place called Red Hot & Blue. I remember they had excellent BBQ. Don't know if they are still there or not. Have fun and stay safe.

About four or five years ago I went with my school to DC and New York. The Arlington Cemetery was amazing like @/legalcat said. And the monuments were awesome!! My favorite was the WWII Memorial that @/HoobFoob mentioned. While we were there a duck tried to steal some bread that I didn't have from my hands and soon realized I was food-less and left. It was super cute. XD Have fun on the trip! Not sure on food places since we only ate at common restaurants like you mentioned whenever we were in the group.
