My reaction to the new Costume Trunk news -- HOLY CRAP THIS IS AWESOME! There are so many items that I've wanted for years that come from a trunk and both the item and the parent trunk have been wayyy too expensive. Allowing people to buy a single item is just brilliant. I think the price breakdown is extremely affordable and really appreciate how everything is set up. I'm already throwing things into my cart now.

I'm also super enthused about the free trunk for GA members. It's incredibly generous and really just lovely. I reckon that plenty of new members that otherwise haven't used GAs will try out the service now. And as everyone knows, getting rid of a GA after you've had it is always difficult. (Now I just have to figure out which trunk to get...)

That being said... (here's the "but" you were all waiting for) What about the old trunks that were never revamped into different items?

The items in question:

The long story behind this revolves around the Costume Trunk and Spooky Costume Trunk items, which would randomly give a set.

The Costume Trunk came out in May of 2007, and had 20 sets at the time of its retirement. Of those 20, only 15 ever received their revamp / separation of items: -- Fairy Costume -> Box of Fairy Dust (5/1/09) -- Shiny Toy Button (10/14/09) -- Cowboy Boot -> Saddle Shaped Trunk (10/29/09) -- Police Costume (10/31/09) -- Magical Bathtime Fun Duck -> Bath Caddy (1/20/10) -- Showbunny Costume -> Sensual Showcase (1/23/10) -- Colonial Bow -> Colonial Tea Box (4/26/10) -- Draculas Vial -> Dirt Filled Crate (6/17/10) -- Future-Suit -> Time Capsule Costume Trunk (7/27/10) -- Jade Jaguar (10/8/10) -- Fisher Hat (11/23/10) -- Plain Paper Hat -> Foil Wrapped Raw Hamburger (6/21/11) -- Shimmering Coin (7/4/11) -- Golden Ankh -> Gold Ankh Oval Trunk (7/31/11) -- Mysterious Bottle (6/23/13) The Ball and Chain, Magic Djinn Lamp, Maidens Favor, Mysterious Genetic Goo, and Samurai Tanto were also in that trunk. To the best of my knowledge, they never received their update.

The Spooky Costume Trunk has a similar story. I'm unsure when it came out, but it had 14 trunks at retirement- of which, 9 received their update: -- Hippy Peace Amulet -> Beaten-Up Backpack (7/11/09) -- Battered Specimen Crate (9/12/09) -- Monster Kit (10/23/09) -- Rock-n-Rollin Malt Shake (5/24/10) -- Jungle Luggage (6/9/10) -- Deep Sea Helmet -> Deep Sea Bathysphere Shaped Trunk (7/21/10) -- Enchanted Gold Hat - White Peacock Trunk (9/7/10) -- Goodboy Costume -> Good Pet Costume Boxes (6/12/12) -- Polka-Dotted Handkerchief on a Stick -> Handkerchief Wrapped Box (7/24/11) The Discarded Lounge Act Ticket, Pretty Ballerina Fairy Princess Costume, and Seal of Olympus were the remaining trunks that needed a revamp. (Penguin Costume and Magical Matches were also in the Spooky Costume Trunk, but those seem less like trunk items worthy of a full collection.)

I've posted on this topic in past in reference to items needing a revamp, but now that this topic directly relates to a news post / new site feature, I thought it warranted a feedback post.

With the spectacular new purchasing system, I really hope we see some of these unloved trunks get a revamp. (Especially when 5/8 are basically unbuyable.)

I love how cheap the individual items are and really appreciate the option to pick the items we want instead of having to buy the whole trunk if you only need like one of the items inside.

And gosh how much I'd need that !

This was a great idea. I'd love to see new costume trunks introduced with this system. The prices of items in new trunks could be the same as SBQ items, of course.

I really love being able to buy individual items as well. And I agree with what you posted about the old costume items that aren't trunks, those could definitely benefit from being made into individual items. I also hope that some of the older trunks and items can get the revamps they desperately need, there are a lot of great items that could just use some touching up.

I'd never use the Maiden's Favor as it is right now but if it were revamped, that's another matter entirely...

Could the decreasing popularity have anything to do with the art for most of these trunks being ~6 yrs old? :P

Or maybe not wanting to buy an entire trunk for one item. I feel like this new system will bring some of the popularity back, there are some really nice things in the costume trunks but finding individual items has always been tough before.

i hope the trunks would be brought back. i love them and now we can buy individual items which is nice to save up for :)

It was trunks in general that were less popular, because the community wanted items that were less costumey and more akin to real fashion.

Ooh, I've been waiting for the Maidens Favor being revamped. Don't like the dragon part of it, but love the crown, hair and dress!

I completely agree with you, but just because the trunks were based in costume style, didn't make them less fashionable. Yes, there are some trunks that are basically unusable (I'm looking at you, Battered Specimen Crate), but there are others that were wildly cool (like the Flashback and Crime Boss trunks.)

I understand why staff edged away from trunks- it's much more profitable to release a Delish or Vanity set when you consider price to # of items. Costume Trunks have a lot of art/pieces in them, and while 500 CSC was pretty expensive, it is still less than half of a Delish set.

I'm not saying that staff should bring back the costume trunk. I'm saying that they should give the revamps to trunks that are 8-9 yrs old when their breatheren all got them ~5-6 yrs ago. (I even support charging a bit more.)

My biggest issue is that there isn't a full preview of the pieces anywhere on the purchase page, like there is with the Delish lines. I don't want to hover over 400 pieces trying to figure out what each costume consists of and trying to put together what it looks like in it's entirety. Is that something that can be implemented?

Super happy about this! Not only can I get those one/two pieces that I need from certain sets, but they are really reasonably priced! Doing it this way prevents more of those cheaper pieces from flooding the market just so people can get the pieces they really want. There are some sets where I only liked one item, but didn't want to pay out the ass for that ONE thing, so this is awesome.

Though, looking through the trunks made me feel HELLA OLD since I remember when many of them were originally released. ;A; And I already had a lot of them in my wardrobe. OLD. I AM OLD. :C

They're really nicely priced, the only thing I don't like is not being able to see the set as a whole on the HA, not a huge issue.

I want those older costumes SO MUCH. That Samurai Tanto, man.

Oh man, getting full HA previews of every set would be amazing! Just counted, and I believe there are 98 trunks. If you're a new user, trying to navigate through them all is daunting, to say the least.

I imagine we'll either have a very, very long page, or multiple pages (alphabetized, not random). Another suggestion would be to make the HAs just a touch smaller than normal.

The Boutique fits 9 HAs across, for a total of 17 M/F sets. Perhaps shrink the HAs to fit 10 across, and then have 4 pages for 20 M/F sets/page?
