i know this has been asked before so my deepest apologies if i missed a clearer answered thread while i googled, but if i want a steamwork built date on a specific day, like the 4th, do i put the order in on the 4th, or the 1st?

i've been googling, and i've read both "it's probably the date ordered/try for a date range" (or build more than one and keep the one with the right build date, which, no), and "If you build one from scratch, it'll have whatever birthday it was finished on." i believe i've seen the second opinion more than once, but then i found 's thread about their new jollin: "I'm also VERY DISAPPOINTED because its built date is the date I ordered it, not the day it was finished" (emphasis mine both times). additionally, i found one pet (wolfram) with their date of completion posted (2/9, vs a built date of 2/6), and another thread asking about the three day wait (their neela was built on the 26th, and the thread was posted on the 29th, so i'm assuming the 26th was the order date).

so after all that i'm pretty sure it's date ordered and not date finished, but i really don't want to assume when i'm only going to have the space and tokens to build one and not a tiny army of kumos, x:

maybe you could file a ticket and see if someone can offer an official answer. i've also seen varying accounts of what determines the build date, and it could be that this has been changed. i would also be interested in a definitive answer.

Well, you already saw my thread but as of the end of December, the built date is definitely the date you placed the order. Thankfully it didn't especially matter to me, it was just one of those things that the relevant date was coming up and I thought it'd be nice :P That said, if you want to know 100% you're going to have to file a ticket like said though personally I doubt it would have been changed in the past < 3 months

I was a bit curious about that as well! I just ordered a new pet yesterday, but since it's being built and I don't have it yet and nothing shows up at the shop I started wondering what would happen if someone swiped its name before it was finished. I wound up searching the name and it popped up as a pet owned by the shop NPC! So it looks like the pet is created on the day you order it (which makes sense so it can save the name for you) and then ownership is transferred to you once it's done.

thanks, guys! yeah, i figure it hadn't changed since december but asking to be sure couldn't hurt (i really want a tv show finale date as the built date, so a questionable date range was really... grinding my gears, lmao). judging from dannica's response it looks like it's definitely still date built = date ordered (since isaac or whichever ncp 'owns' them prior to delivery), so i'm going to take this sample size of five as confirmation rather than file a ticket myself, since it looks like my answer is very obvious now p:

it does make sense that the npc would have them during the time in-between order and, uh, delivery. i'm assuming your pet has it's built date as 3/8 and stuff, yeah? i guess that makes it pretty clear that built = ordered, so i don't really have to file a ticket and ask, now uvu;; thanks for letting me know!

Yep! Its birthdate is 3/8 - click. :)

It is a nice touch! This will be my first steamwork pet so I didn't know that was how it worked but it's kinda fun. (And oh yes, very much a discworld ref! Still not sure on what pet it'll be in the end, but I figured being built/not born and genderless would be a good start, haha!)
