If I am playing on a tablet-like device, there's currently no way to get the pop-up hover-box for an item. But the pop-up hover-box tells us a lot, especially if we're wanting to see if the item is a wearable or to see its rarity. But I've had difficulty thinking how to easily and elegantly implement this. So please suggest alternatives. I see a need here, but not a clear solution.

Perhaps we might have ? after the name of each item and that this would be the pseudo-link which onclick(), would bring up the pop-up. Maybe a question mark isn't the best choice of symbol.

-- Edit -- This is mostly an issue on the Inventory Page although I found it a problem generally when in the Mobile Layout. In the desktop layout on my phablet which is running Android Lolipop, tapping the item brings the pop-up. But on the Inventory page, tapping the item takes you to the item page which asks you what you want to do with this item.

-- Edit-- As kbbob has suggested, this is more of an issue for the Mobile site only.

I get item hovers on my phone by just tapping on the item.

I tried that long before deciding to make this suggestion. It doesn't seem to work in FF for Android.

Are you on the mobile site? I wonder if that has something to do with it.

Both mobile and desktop site, it doesn't seem to work on FF for Android. It's quite frustrating and if you can help me solve this, I'd be very grateful.

I have an iPhone so I can't test anything, so I'm not of much help. You tried chrome to see if it works on there?

Have you tried chrome for android? There are a number of reasons I use FF. I'd happily take Safari on android before I'd use chrome.

When I tap, usually nothing happens although sometimes it adds/subtracts the item to/from my wishlist, which is not what I wanted, and sometimes it simply zooms out. This is definitely still happening in the mobile version. Right now, if I try switching to desktop on my phablet, I get a 404, but that's a recent thing.

No I haven't, I have an iphone :p give safari a shot then, just test it out to make sure it's not a browser problem. I'm not sure about mobile browsers. Subeta is hardly meant to be played from a phone though. until maybe six months ago subeta would crash my browser any time I wanted to post a comment or a forum post, and this only was fixed with ios updates.

if you switch to desktop from a random page, it'll take you to a 404 but if you switch from like your inventory or the news page it'll work fine.

Thanks for that. I got into the desktop.

I recognize that Subeta was never designed for tablet-like devices, but let's be forward thinking here. Running an ISP, I have been to client homes where the only thing they have is iPads and iPhones. No Mac of any kind in sight. I'm usually there because they need their wireless router configured because it doesn't support one-touch, defaults to wireless being off, and they don't have anything, not even a Pi, to talk to it.

Looks like it may be a browser issue and may be more on the mobile layout than the desktop layout. In the desktop layout, the pop-up happens when I tap an item on the news page or if I'm doing a shop search. However, I still have a problem on the Inventory page. When I tap it, instead of getting a pop-up, I end up being taken to the page which asks me what I want to do with this item. So that at least limits it down to just the one page. I can go back an add an edit for this suggestion to indicate that it's really an Inventory page issue only.

You may have better luck with a problems&bugs thread since it seems to be your browser, or maybe what you're suggesting could be implemented on the mobile site only. The mobile site needs a lot of work done to it and I think for the most part it's gone neglected, I'm not sure it will ever see any improvements. I'm just not sure subeta can make all of the improvements so that it can be 100% mobile friendly, we hardly get all of the improvements we need on the main site. Last summer we had a plot that had some games in it people couldn't play on their mobile devices, but certain things can't really be made mobile friendly.

I believe item hovers are just disabled on the mobile site because mobile sites need to be stripped down, that's their purpose. item hovers make page loads longer and could potentially crash your mobile device if it isn't very powerful.

Very good points. After more testing, the problem appears to be specifically on the Mobile layout only. FF pops-up the hover-boxes in desktop layout too but has the same problem in Inventory. There are definitely much higher priorities for the main site.

I am trying to keep my suggestions to easy to implement ideas. Where possible, I'll even suggest, as I did here, how to achieve the result with minimal coding. Finding that the problem is only on the Inventory page means it's very little coding. ?

As you mentioned, we do have plenty of users who play only using mobile devices. I suspect we will see more. I am very much keeping them in mind with many of my suggestions. As many people move to exclusively tablet-like devices, for this site to survive, we need to keep them in mind. So while I'll ask you to not kill this suggestion, I will suggest that it be placed WAY DOWN on the priorty list. It's clearly not something that needs to be done with any kind of urgency.

-- EDIT-- Looking at what's actually in the Item page, I'm not sure it makes any sense to do anything to the Inventory page. The item page tells you everything (except for showing you what it would look like in wardrobe) that you really want to know. Showing it as a wardrobe item should be a different suggestion. So close this thread please.

The mobile site really needs some work done on it to make it usable, so I can get behind anything that fixes the mobile site. it probably isn't high on their priorities though. I really don't have much problem with the regular site on my iphone, so maybe the mobile site can be scrapped in exchange for a few improvements to make things a little easier for mobile users. I do know there are users that only access the site from mobile devices. some things they won't ever be able to do very well just because of how the devices work, like certain games, but some things should be made easier for mobile users.

The pop-up hover-boxes appear to be summoned using AJAX. That means, they are not loaded when the page loads, but load when you hover over them. So there should be no reason any mobile device shouldn't be able to support the hover-boxes. That does suggest that the mobile layout is quite redundant and should probably be dropped and that the main site should be tweaked for better tablet usability.

The issue for me seems to be that mobile devices don't actually have a 'hover' functionality like devices that have a cursor do. If I plugged a mouse into my tablet, I wouldn't have an issue.

I used Dolphin Browser and Chrome for Android for a while, and I could long-press an item, then tap out of the context menu, and that would trigger the hover script. But it was a pain in the butt. Sometimes if I was lucky, I could tap the item, and drag like I'm scrolling, and that would do it. but it was inconsistent with all my devices. (I have this same issue with the drop down tabs!)

The mobile site isn't mobile formatted at all. It zooms entirely out, doesn't condense the layout on zoom, and is rather bulky. And all the newsposts that have a bunch of items, they all end up in a vertical line, one item per line, so you have to scroll forever. And ever.

There's another topic for mobile devices, drop down menues. Most of the time, I can only get the default item in the drop down menu. To trigger the drop down menu, I need to tap the menu. That triggers both the drop down, but also acts as if I clicked. I haven't made a suggestion for that issue yet because I haven't figured out a reasonable solution.
