I've never had a dog, but since I work in a pet store... people come and ask if they can put posters up on our wall because they need to re-home a pet.

The only advice I can give you is putting up papers at your local pet stores and saying something in the description like "looking to re-home my dog to an experience handler" or whatever suits you best.

Best of luck.

I've never had to do it myself, but I feel I can give you some tips:

Don't advertise "free to good home". Ask for some amount of money, because there are some shady folks who prey on pets that are being given away for free (dog fights, food for other animals - really terrible stuff). By asking for money, you're more likely to weed these types out and get more serious inquiries.

Of course all that can be avoided if you take them directly to a shelter, but that can bring on a whole other mess of issues. If you plan on going this route, do your research on every available shelter or rescue you can find.

Also, you can always ask your vet if they can help rehome him/her, or if they have any advice on how to safely go about it. They have access to a lot of resources, and it's by no means an unusual request for them.
