Don't think I've seen a topic like this before, anyway...

So I've been working on my pets' TCs lately, and thinking back I used to put whatever item I liked and seemed to somewhat fit a pet into their TC, but these days I also focus on what I find aesthetically fitting. Both in how the items look together, and how they fit the pet. Of course, I still prefer giving items that I actually like too. Which seems logical enough to me. Still, I imagine some have different approaches to this, so now I'm curious how do other people go about making their pets' TCs?

It depends. For Tay I just want a 'rainbow' treasure chest and searched for the cheapest but still pretty item that had enough colors for a rainbow. Maybe I'll just change it to rainbow themed things though. Alisson got a love/heart-themed TC. Any, Kristofer & Neomi get a TC based on the items that character would like. Though the others do have a set theme of things they like, Any is just whatever items I like because she's based on me. Elli's TC is completely based on her story, just 'collecting' a certain type of things.

For the rest of my pets I don't have a TC plan yet. I'm not interested in an aesthetically pleasing TC, I just want something that fits. I want my TCs to help explaining the character, be an important part of who they are.

I'm kind of disorganized with pet treasure chests. I have one pet where I pretty much throw anything with the word "tea" in it, I have another that I'm throwing all the different matters in, and then I have one with items that look related to the video game I based him off of.

When I organize the items though, I sort of stick the best items at the top then go from there in a pattern of which items look similar.

Most of the time if I'm stumped on items, I'll ask other people for suggestions based on a certain criteria. I feel like I'm rambling now...

it depends on the pet's personality and what their TC functions as. is it just stuff they like? is it stuff that is relevant to their story? how would they arrange the items? what does the arrangement mean?

for my pet rostron, he's a graverobber and hoards pretty trinkets. he would want to arrange everything in a specific order. thus, his TC is in a rainbow. your eye travels across and down the spectrum without being overwhelmed so you can enjoy his stuff!

then there's my pet bertilda, who isn't a humanoid like rostron. she functions as an educational pet about the coconut octopus. therefore it wouldn't make sense to me to have her TC be arranged in a particular way (i.e. food, then 'toys', then common items around her habitat, etc). because she's an animal i figured there'd be no rhyme or reason to her collection, so her TC has no order to it.

I always felt pretty stumped on items for the most part too, but lately I've been finding stuff and thinking of what TC it could fit more. I guess it started with having some plushies I liked, but I don't bother with collections anymore, so eventually I decided to put it in a pet's TC so I get some use out of them (and having them in a pet TC is more interesting/meaningful to me than a gallery).

And now whenever I see an item I like I try to think of what TC I could use it for.

(I also stalk other people's TC suggestions threads and such to see if it gives me any inspiration.)

Oh, that's a nice TC.

And that makes sense too. I tried doing that with Lurv's TC a bit, putting stuff in "randomly" because it seems fitting for her personality, but I still end up organizing it a bit. >_> I can get OCD I guess.

Although when it comes to my pet TCs, I don't necessarily just give them stuff I imagine them owning, but anything that could be related to their story. Like with Dimming, I tried making it a bit "light to dark" to go with how things tend to progress with him, and then I guess I might try something similar for Succumbing but I just started on him.

Yeah, I try going for both myself. Finding both items that appeal to me and give you an idea of what kind of character they are. Of course, it helps that I sometimes associate the pet/character with a type of aesthetic too.

I mostly seek items that fit the pet's story/character. They could be things the character likes/collects/uses, items with symbolic meanings in the story, or just items that appear in the story(for fan pets especially). I used to put whatever fitting items I can find in pet TCs. But nowadays, with more and more items released, I do care a lot about aesthetics (eg. I might exclude items with outdated art unless they are absolutely crucial and there're no substitutes on site).

I'm also very OCD about how I order the items, sometimes by color, sometimes by item category, sometimes by how important each item is xD.

I'm a bit picky with TC items, but when I do make a TC I like to integrate into the pets profile like a story. Elephant's TC is suppose to resemble a tent interior and his life in the circus and my pet Ebenezer is an antique hoarder so his TC is like a little treasure trove of old items. XD

With items that have little to a lot of relevance to the pet's story.

If I can't find any, I choose things that complement their species/color combo.

. I usually pick a theme to fit the pet's story/concept, and then pick items that are visually pleasing. I avoid the older poorly drawn items even if they fit the theme. Old art just throws off the look of a TC in my opinion.

It depends on the Pet actually. For some I rather get some things that only go with their character, like Ganesha, mainly because his story is kinda 'short' and not overly dependent on "Items" (:

Most of the time I just pit story relevant things in there OR chracter relevant because collecting both at the same time would take some TCs to an extreme and I don't want to go there.

Only exception is Salazar - he's my cute little spoiled brat, he doesn't only has story/game relevant Items but also things that are pretty and that I'd see him owning actually. (:

This is a rad question because I love TCs almost as much as character creating. How I make TCs depends on what I'm working with, as other people have said. Sometimes I create the aesthetic I want with the TC, and then think of the kind of character that would match it. Other times, if I totally have the concept down, I'll stick to the things I know they would have in their collection if they were real. Other times, if I have a complete story fleshed out, I'll use the TC to reiterate the story, almost like a time line. I also use TCs to set a scene, if you will. For example, if the story doesn't specifically say where a character is located, I'd put in items that reflect the world or culture they live in. TCs can really make a pet sometimes, and that's why I do it differently for almost every pet, but it's so much fun, I think.

It depends. TCs are about the only thing I actually put tangible work into regarding most of my pets (and a lot of that is WLing stuff lmao).

I have one pet whose TC I designed so I could organize it a very specific way. My most recent pet, I've been getting a single color of every type of item I find that would fit, but with most pets I want to collect like....everything. I actually have a work in progress that really needs to be toned down because it's already fucking ridiculous and is only going to get worse from here xD

I don't really limit based on items that appeal to me/don't appeal to me personally. I mean, I'm not going to be buying items that really gross me out or anything, but I also won't skip over items that I don't particularly like. I am a little concerned with the way my TCs look, organization-wise, but not so much regarding the items. One of my pets is essentially a carnival worker, so I bought items for her TC that I can organize to look like carnival games (more or less; I don't have anything to use as spacers so there are going to be a few assorted items here and there as they fit). I actually have a plan drawn out on paper for how to organize that one.

The TCs are supposed to reflect the characters my pets represent. A couple of my pets have their TCs formatted in a particular way, as by color, but mostly it's just whatever items reflect them.

I Like big, massive, annoying-as-hell-to-organize TCs. The bigger, the better! What they all boil down to is themes, with only one exception. Some of them have a couple themes but lately I've been trying to stick to a single on per pet.

My pets don't generally have true characters anymore (at least not in the typical way) so the older ones with characters have a ton of themes covered. I try to avoid doing that now since it eats up themes really quickly. I don't like having much overlap between different TCs so my options are getting kind of limited after 24 pets.

For fun/torture, here's all my themes. Riordyn: anything and everything my boyfriend & I like, things related to our lives, whatever random items I adore and have no use for, things boyfriend demands I add to it An Autumn Day: anything autumn colored that fits the atmosphere of calm/serene/gentle/etc Symphony: motherhood, music, instruments Yellowstone: what to bring/wear to the park, animals/plants/sights to see, activities, you're an awful person if you litter in a national park, wild animals are dangerous and WILL kill you plus medicine Sona Lua: puns, certain jokes, certain candy Butterfly Bruise: items related to the Subeta zombie virus Glitchen: items related to the MMO Glitch Itaska: "like a 7/11 but really nice with all handmade food that doesn't look atrocious" My Little Pony: hikeis, horses, MLP references (intentional or not) Lusitania: alcohol, fancy food, ocean, pirate/treasure, and just general fancy old looking stuff Into The Woods: anything related to the play or movie, fairytale stuff, every bread ever Helicat: blobcats Aeanoid Root: Aeanoid stuff Tavore: carnival/fair Kathelina: dolls, doll making, doll customizing Sculptor: all the basic sculpting stuff, random items I use irl in my sculpting, items that look like projects you could do with polymer clay (with art that fits) Cebarkul: mushrooms, those blob doll things Vivere Aestas: lanterns Ilmenskie: rocks and gems of all kinds Ileas: home improvement and various tools Wrench: I honestly don't know what to do with him. He's my coding pet for now. Dionaea: nerd things, DnD/all pen & paper we like, videogames we like Endermen: Minecraft related things Willy Wonka: in my dreams his TC will be a visual journey through the entire original movie, aka RIP me

Naturally, every TC reflects the character or theme. Also, all of the items have been arranged in a way or another and in my mind the order makes perfect sense.

For example, for Jurassic Park I arranged the items to kind of tell the story of the movie.

My pets' TCs all have to do with their various stories and personalities, but I do have some guidelines for myself. For example, Andera LOVES tea and works at a tea shop, but there's a lot of tea items on Subeta, so for his TC I limit it to tea and tea things he'd actually like/use.

I carefully arrange all the items in my pets' TCs in order of importance to the pet or their story, and sometimes it seems random but it's not really, you just have to be me to fully understand it. XD Like Roderich, for example... the glasses and jabot come first because that's part of who he is. Music is the most important thing to him so that comes next. Baking stuff is after that, and he likes to EAT more than he likes to actually do the work of baking, so the ingredients and tools come AFTER all the food. Coffee comes next because he loves coffee but not as much as pastries, and then regular Germanic food because he likes food but not as much as pastries, and then all his gardening stuff (and again, I limit those items to things he'd actually like/grow/use), and then at the end are items to represent the various countries he's been married to interacted with over his long history.
