So, today, I walked to a local tattoo shop to talk to an artist about a tattoo coverup :x

I feel... a slight twang of guilt. Saying it - coverup. There's nothing wrong with the artwork, or the artist. I just got a tattoo during a bad time in my life, and it hurts more to look at than it helps. Ugh. Dx

Anyway, if you have a tattoo, please share. What it is, where you got it / how much it hurt, what it means, etc. etc.

What I'm trying to cover up (the left wrist) vs. What I want to get [just a traditional dagger with a rose, but I'm open to ideas]

I have three tattoos but I only have pictures of two of them Always Keep F;ighting That one is on my left wrist. It didn't hurt very much. I had been wanting to get it for a long time and I had some extra money so I decided why not. I walked in and told the guy what I wanted and he told me to hop in the chair.

Bladder Cancer ribbon That one is on my upper back. I was really close to my great uncle who passed away from Bladder Cancer. The stripes are his rank from the US Air Force. That one only hurt in a few places, mostly the parts closer to my neck.

My other one is a shamrock with the words "So Others May Live" around it. It's on the middle of my back. I'm not sure why I don't have a picture of it. That one really hurt. It was my first one and it's right on my spine. I'm an EMT, so those words mean a lot to me.

I want to get more. I want to get the Tardis with Allons-y written down the side of it. I also want to get the Deadpool logo. To me the Tardis symbolizes two things: adventure and never being alone. The Deadpool logo symbolizes accepting yourself for who you are. I would also like to get something to tie in with my love of Daryl Dixon from The Walking Dead to symbolize rising above your problems.

I really like yours. I honestly don't know what to suggest. Do you watch the show Supernatural? If so, you could get the Anti-Possession Tattoo. That's the only thing I can think of. But get what you want.

; I kind of really like your tattoo but if it hurts you more than it does good then obviously it's not good for you to keep. There's nothing wrong with a coverup, because sometimes you do grow distant from something that once meant everything to you and I fully support it. (:

My Alchemy Symbols I currently have the alchemy symbols for (top to bottom) fire, air, earth, water, and balance on the back of my lower upper arm right above the elbow. I got it with my (current boyfriend, then not so much) on a date back in July 2015. TBH, I almost cried because I was -so- afraid of how badly it would hurt. It didn't hurt a damn bit. The only one I really felt was the balance symbol because it's right about my elbow and I laughed through it more than felt pain.

I plan on getting MANY more tattoos. My next will probably be an inch wide solid black band around the middle of my right thigh to separate where my heavily inked upper body and legs will be.

I'm not sure what to suggest, but maybe a couple traditional swallows to symbolize your freedom from the old tattoos? The line art on those pieces are really nice and heavily saturated in black so they'll possibly show through quite a few tattoo options you try and get just because of how they're designed with thick, geometric shapes.

I would really try to not feel guilty about wanting to cover up your tattoo, especially if it's lost its meaning for you. I'm sure whatever you decide to cover it with will be awesome, and provide you with a bit of a breath of relief.

I have a phoenix feather quill pen on my left forearm, which is just kind of a 'reborn from the ashes'-esque meaning, and I added the little pen tip because I'm a writer. The pain wasn't too bad, definitely hurt more towards the wrist and the outside of my arm. On my right upper forearm/wrist, I have my deceased cat's pawprint with her name in cursive above, which I imagine is pretty self-explanatory, haha! Pain was tolerable, but not enjoyable, as with most tattoos people get, haha!

; That looks amazing! I'm glad you found something to cover a not so nice time in your life. (: Also thank you, however I think one day it may end up getting covered just to make a sleeve possible on that arm. Maybe not. Only time will tell haha.

I want to get a rainbow splatter semicolon tattoo on my wrist but my husband doesn't want me to get a single tattoo. I have a mental illness and I want to show my support that way.

I don't have any tattoos (yet) but I just wanted to say your tattoo is done really well! You can't even tell the one you had covered up was even there :)

I'm kind of scared to get a tattoo because I'm nervous about the pain. I was thinking about getting one on my upper thigh and one on my lower arm. I've only ever gotten my ears pierced twice so I don't really have anything to compare the pain to... What was it like getting your first tattoo?

Oh man,, first off all your tattoos are so pretty.

Second, I will take any opportunity given to show off my tattoos so here we go.

First off, these are my shoulder tattoos. They're kinda super meaningful to me, it seems like a random assortment but it's all the provincial/territorial flowers of Canada.

Here's my elbow mandala, and my elbow sunflower, which I just got done yesterday. These were the most painful tattoos I've ever gotten. I barely made it through my sunflower yesterday.

Here's probably my favourite, Humphrey the narwhal. I'm getting this arm covered in sea creatures, I'm getting an angler fish put on there next.. When I can afford it. aha.

My other arm is my in-progress plant sleeve, my fern, my cat skull and part of my ivy and wild rose tattoo, and finally the other part of my ivy/rose.

I'm kinda obsessed with tattoos and I want way more.

What sleeve are you contemplating?

That sounds really unfortunate, that your husband has an opposing view. But, i see it this way - Its your body and you do what you want with it. ❤ I think that tattoo sounds gorgeous and very meaningful. And, if you ever need to talk, drop me a message. c:

-Pan It honestly depends on your tolerance and where you get the tattoo done. I have six in total. The worst one getting done was on my ribs. The worse one to heal has been the one on my arm. Granted, its only been a day but i have never had one swell this much. :c

those are absolutely gorgeous. i am also obsessed with them and want way more. i just need more money D:

[-Pan]; i was like you before i got my tattoo. if you'd read my lil snipet (maybe not) when i got my (only) tattoo it didn't hurt at all. i feel like if it's on your thigh or arm it won't hurt AS much but everyone is different. i barely felt mine until they got close to my elbow and even then i was laughing at how silly i'd been for thinking it'd hurt so much.

the only way to find out is to actually get it because everyone is different but i'm possibly sure i can assure you that it's only terrible when you think about it and haven't experienced it yet.

; i want a sleeve with a lil bit of everything. floral, faces, things that have significance to me and things that mean nothing at all. the only planned tattoo i have that i will not waver or change my mind on is my ribs. i want the legendary pokemon dogs depicted in asian style as fu-dogs to tie a link with my overseas birth (military baby) and my first obsession/still love pokemon.

everything else is a it is what it basis haha

; those are lovely. i'm certainly in love with that skull. i want a deer or longhorn skull in pointilism or minimalistic sketching eventually.

; screw him. if you want it you should be able to get it. it isn't bad or offensive and it means something to you as well as showing support for a large cause. your body your rules. talk to him about it and set him down, and if it's something you are really determined to do then do it. if he doesn't like it or understand then it happens.

i sure know when my boyfriend or i want to do something that the other disapproves of we voice our concerns but at the end of the day we understand the other is their own person and we'll respect them no matter what they do as long as it isn't detrimental to the actual foundation of the relationship.

Your coverup is really lovely, I'm impressed with how well your artist got rid of the old one. ^^

I got my first tattoo last month, here (kind of a bad photo, it looks nicer irl). They're red spider lilies and white carnations. tbh there isn't much meaning to it, it's just a reference to one of my favorite series, Tokyo Ghoul. It did hurt a little bit, but I think that's just because my skin is on the sensitive side.

My family and I have all been getting quite a few tattoos lately, actually. my parents have... I think it was 6-8 a piece? And my brother has four. We're all pretty much devoted to the same artist, otherwise we'd make family events out of getting inked together, haha. ^^

I currently have two tattoos. A lotus on my back, and one on my finger that I don't have a pic of, but it says bulletproof in Chinese.

The lotus was my first tattoo, and it was painful but not deathly painful ^^, I got it in idea of a symbol of change. And for my finger tattoo, basically if you put your hands together in a certain way where your fingers are touching, and your middle fingers are bent (joints touching each other), no matter how hard you try you wont be able to separate your middle fingers, or ring fingers. The middle finger is supposed to represent yourself, ring finger represents your lover, and the other three that can separate are you friends, parents, and children, meaning that one day they separate from you. So TLDR;, my finger tattoo was meant to symbolize being strong, and on a scale from 1/10, pain was 5/10. I'm bad at explaining things so, I'm very sorry if that did not make sense LOL. Anyways, I love art, and Okami is my favorite game, and I plan to get a giant Okami back piece later. Not only do I just love the art style of the game but the main character and just the different aspects I feel connect to me. ;u;
