I sorta miss the create-a-wearable contest we got for Survival last year. I probably whined a lot last year, but now that it's not there...man I miss it.

Yeah, the original way of determining winners was so-so, due to vote division with facial features, but it was quickly resolved, and we got a bunch of very cool items last year.

Even if I'm not an artist, I really wish it has been back this year. The alegarten contest wasn't as interesting, due to the division between entries with art and entries with no art, but yeah.

I feel that could have stimulated site activity a bit. I liked discussing entries with people!

Maybe bring it back next year or something? Or, bring it back for Masquerade, in that format, with participation prizes for entrants and all.

Wasn't there a suggestion for another contest for Masq like the Alegarten one but with hard liquor ? I like the contests, they are fun. And as much as I like CW ones, the site does need to do more than just those (although I won't argue another one !).

I'd like to alternate. Like, one contest wears, one contest food, one contest book (WRITE YOUR OWN STORY), one contest minions and stuff.

But people like wears, so why not one contest wears, one contest food, one contest wears, one contest books, one contest wears, one contest minions.

Oh, that would be awesome. I can see a lot of people having fun with those. That could be fun, but wouldn't it be a lot of wearable contests going on ? This is from someone that loves wearable and has fun drawing customs.

People love wearables. That's sadly a thing we have to deal with; they sorta have to be more proeminent than everything else, if you want to accomodate the majority of the userbase

And I'm someone who doesn't give a damn about wearables. I'm just very lucid about what people truly want.

That's true, it'd make some very happy. I'd submit the same items until the site collectively said screw it and voted for them just to make me stop

I definitely don't miss the contest after everything else that has gone on during this event. Especially since it seems like the best solution to a lot of the problems that the beer contest had was that there was minimal staff intervention and it was too overwhelming/time-consuming for users to deal with and it turned into an art contest once again. Staff doesn't seem to be around right now and so I wouldn't want this burden thrown on them.

But I do hope someone is working back there to figure out and make time for another contest. A book contest would be fantastic, honestly. But with the nature of books staff would have to personally cut the entries to a top 10 or something. And for a next wearable contest it really truly needs to be a "get your item drawn by an official staff member" and not just a "get your item on site" contest. I think the contests went off good, but I do believe it could be better if it didn't just benefit the people who can already draw CWs and make their money by drawing CWs.

PS. Make Create-a-wearable contests be an annual/semi-annual thing and release the as a participation prize for each one or so help me I'm holding Melman for ransom.

I love site contests. A zombie food contest would be great, or some drinks or appetizers for Masquerade. With prizes being the entry made an item and currency for winners, and a title/achievement for participating.

Also yes at rereleasing the Sew Crafty Sticker every year.

I miss the Create-a-Wearable contest, too, like the ones we had for Peekaboo and Survival. :c

This has been suggested previously ! A meshup of the CW contest and SubQ contest, where users sketch up an outfit and the winner(s) gets their set drawn by an official artist.

I demand more user-made content contests! Especially with the suggestions of non-wearable options - that way there would be a good balance (and more people would be able to participate, since wears are more difficult to draw than, say, a book). It was really fun to see what users came up with! QuQ

Clearly we need to charge straight into S&I with this!

Naahhh, when would you ever do that?! (Sorry, I couldn't resist.)

But I agree- I enjoyed the create-a-wearable contest. I enjoy all of the ones that happen. There are always some issues (Survival being facial feature oriented, Alegarten being image oriented, etc), but they're still fun.

If another happens, I thinks staff should take some time and try to think out some of the different sides/consequences (aka, try to "break" the contest, and put in measures to prevent.) I know, I know, it's difficult to think up every scenario, and it's difficult to account for them all. And I know staff works very hard on these events. But some of the hiccups should've been thought of (duh, everyone is going to vote for a beer image, rather than a wall of text...) Perhaps a secret committee next time? Kick around side effects and event-breaking scenarios? (I volunteer as tribute.)

Contests seem to only include the creative and talented people. when they try to include people without as much talent, they give them a glimmer of hope but no real practical way to win.

I did like having a chance at usermade facial items. I bought most of the face items from both the Peka and Survival events.

Creative talent is not something innate, especially concerning writing. It's something you gotta develop. If you go, sit down and say "not for me, i have no talent" yeah no, you're not gonna win.

I'm not sure I agree with that. Some people are much more naturally gifted than others. If competitions could find a way to be fair to people of all talent levels, I'd support them more, but for a large group of users, if feels like it isn't worth even attempting.

We'll agree to disagree.

No one is born with absolute talent. Some people have more dexterity, but potential is nothing is you don't practice. Being good at something is always something you have to work on.

And honestly, there isn't anything that's for everyone on this site. Some people have more affinities with some parts of the site than others. Such is life. This is why I support participation prizes, even if you can draw, do your best, and you're going to end up with something anyway.

I love contests, especially if it involves something digital so I don't have to try and hide it from my boyfriend (he doesn't know how I spend my time...). Even though I'm destined to fail every time, I enjoy the creative process, and it's always fun seeing what other people have come up with. It did feel like there was a bit of a gap without the CW contest this year, even though we've only done it once.

That said, I don't blame the staff if they never bother with a contest again. There's always something to complain about; it seems that no matter what they do, the users aren't happy. "Why do staff get to pick a short list? I want to see all the entries!" "There were too many entries! Voting was too difficult!" "I don't like these democratically selected winners! I want other things!" "I am frustrated that the users who have spent years developing and refining the skills this contest calls for are more likely to win! Unfair!" "Despite your best efforts to be inclusive with entries, I'm just going to ignore those without images and then blame you for not stopping me from doing it!"

I'd happily participate in possible future contests if I can (there was some enthusiastic talk a few months ago about designing flags, and I'm still quietly clinging to the hope that it'll happen), but the fallout is never fun. It must be such a punch in the gut to repeatedly respond to and incorporate user feedback, only to be told that that solution was wrong, too.

I enjoy the idea of Subeta contests, but I guess I wish they would...spread them out in the skill department? I'm sure there are a ton of users on this site who can't draw or make crafts worth a damn, but know how to write stories or compose music or make short videos or whatever, and I'd like to see the people who didn't pick "visual art" as their Talent Hobby get a crack at something.

I missed the wearable contest, too. This is actually why I was asking if there would be any extra items added to the Survival shops, just in case.
