"You can't try to kiss yourself, freak!'"

That's the message you get when you try and kiss yourself. The request is simple, I just don't think the "freak" in "You can't try to kiss yourself, freak!'" is necessary. Excluding the word completely, or even changing it to something like "silly" is fine. IDK, maybe I'm oversensitive or something but whenever I see that I go :/

I don't find freak to be offensive in this case, because I don't feel like they actually think I'm a freak. I'd actually be more offended by the use of silly because more than once I've had people older than myself call me that when I've made a mistake, clearly trying to be humorous in their condescension. I've been called freak too, but I kinda own that one more. I just think "Yes, I'm different than you. So?" and move on, whereas being called silly stings a while. All a matter of perspective I guess.

I think it could just say "You can't kiss yourself!"

I will hate anyone who calls me "silly" for the rest of their life : p I'm not some stupid brat

well you're trying to kiss yourself. have you looked in the mirror while trying to do that? how would you describe yourself after watching yourself do that?

I find the insult is kind of unnecessary, especially since most people probably just misclicked and aren't actually trying to kiss themselves.

But admittedly I have very delicate feelings, so whatever.

In all honesty, I'm neutral on this. While I see nothing wrong with the way it is, I don't really think it's that big a deal to change it. The main issue is up to staff on where they want to draw the lines on these things. They've been pretty good at deciding when to change things to avoid public outcry or for being super politically incorrect. In this case I feel like changing it would cause a lot of people to feel more entitled to have their things removed from cite, like those fetus pops and decapitated animals and everything else.

So I guess in the end I am against it being changed, but I won't throw a fit if it does. Honestly, who is even saying that? I just tried it to see and since it needs to be edited anyway (there is a stray ' at the end of the sentence) there could be a change in the dialogue to represent the NPC. Perhaps keep it the same and do a Prof. Oak-esque style "You hear Louis L'Amour's voice in your head telling you "You can't try to kiss yourself, freak!"" Cause you know getting called a freak by him is a compliment. ;)

L'Amour probably spends 2 hours a day kissing a mirror.

And on the subject, I have no problems with being called a freak, but also won't be against taking that away from the message.

I don't find it offensive. To me, it's clear that it's being said in good humor and gets a laugh out of me.

Everyone has different points of view and what might make one person upset might be totally fine to someone else. I don't think Grishiu is being sensitive about nothing. You can't really tell someone that it doesn't bother them when it clearly does.

Personally, I don't like be called a freak but I do understand that it is supposed to be lighthearted and so it doesn't bother me. Subeta doesn't have to cater to everyone about everything, obviously, but I'd be fine with it changing to something else. I'd be fine with it changing so it's obviously lighthearted, to sweetie or hot stuff, or something.

i think it kinda funny. wakes me up from sleepiness a few times too :) change, no change, doesn't affect my gameplay. so 'm ok with anything. although it kinda stale if everything is shiny rainbow.

Maybe it has something to do with the way you're saying it to yourself in your head? Inflection can make a world of difference when reading a remark like this. I like the message and the way I say it in my head makes me think it's just poking fun at me. It's not being said maliciously because why would subeta try to intentionally hurt your feelings? It's light-hearted and it isn't around all year round. The chances of you seeing it are just from when you mis-click.

Am I completely missing something here by having English as third language? I don't see what's wrong with the word freak.

I don't like changing wordings of things every time someone is upset because where do you draw the line? Not saying you feeling upset isn't justified, because you feel the way you feel and as an outsider i have nothing to say about that. I just don't see what's wrong in this case and I don't see why it should be changed.

Not that I mind the 'freak' thing, but I would prefer something along the lines of "Well, now you have a kiss mark on your hand, but who would pay /themselves/ in candy hearts?!"

Mostly because I would totally kiss my own avatar if I could. I just know I would not give myself any candy. XD

You came to a PG-13, 99.9% censorship-less and a lot of dark humor jokes so expect to see many "offensive" things.. But really "freak" is the weakest thing to be offended by.. have you seen the Harlequin Syndrome virus? THIS can be considered offending.. because it's so close to make fun of it and of the people who have this syndrome....

I think because it's text that everyone tends to read it in their own way. For some people it has a more playful tone while some might feel as though they're being insulted. Unless you're the kind of person who gets offended by the mere use of a word even if it's used in its proper non offensive context, then I think that's your issue to deal with on your own.

I personally read it as something a friend would say if they saw you trying to kiss yourself in a weird way. It sounds harsh but it's obviously a joke and you both laugh it off. I also think it's fine as it is.

To be honest I'd like it if it were removed and we got the option to kiss ourselves. We don't get candy hearts but make it an achievement. User has kissed themselves 100 times and gets a funny but slightly self-deprecating forum title.

Slightly related, but I never liked the 'Don't be greedy!' message when you accidently click too soon in the Free Shop (and perhaps other places?), because a) there's no timer so I can't tell when my wait period is up and b) usually I'm 2 seconds early or something stupid like that. Oh, and c) I don't like being chided like a toddler who tried to grab another cookie. Am I the only one who now hates Experimen 404s because of the error pages?

Back to the subject at hand! Maybe it could say 'You kiss yourself and give yourself one of your own Candy Hearts... which you already owned. Nice one.' or something silly like that.

EDIT: Just a random thought: if you try and dance with yourself during Masquerade, what if it said "You do a little dance by yourself in the middle of the dance floor. You get no tokens but, hey, it was fun.'? Just an idle thought that I thought was funny.
