Well, I've definitely never seen a more racist comment section.

Youtube comment sections are frequently racist. Sometimes even when the video itself has little or nothing to do with race or ethnicity. Number one rule of youtube commenting: never read the comments. The youtube comment section has been toxic for years.

I feel that this is... racist. What if white people made a video about what they thought of the word "black". and if whites said the same thing that they did, world war three would happen.

"Wanting equality without giving up any of the power." I like that. That's a good way of putting it.

I thought that this video is completely valid and I appreciate where they're coming from. I like the large pool of races that they decided to include too, because you know that all of these people have grown up in different places, with different experiences, and yet all of their comments are similar. It's not that one particular group of white people act that way, it's an institutionalised behaviour across such a large group of them.

Also, I like that it's supposedly a Buzzfeed Australia video, because this country is so dang racist, lmao. I'm sure this made so many people mad. Bless them.

It doesn't matter if white people make a similar video talking about their impressions of "black". Black people and other people of colour are constantly reminded of what white people think of them. It's in the way they're depicted in media, in the way people treat them in public, and in the stereotypes that are always applied to their life. It's in the statistics of rape, murder, maltreatment by authority figures, incarcerations rates, education results, etc.

This video isn't diminishing white people, who they are, and their way of life. These people are mostly drawing off experiences that they have personally had and the experiences of their ancestors. They're talking about white privilege and the inequality in our current society. Being called "arrogant" or "naive" is nothing compared to being called a terrorist, thug, criminal, rapist, etc. all because of your skin colour, trust me.

Interesting thoughts everyone!! I can definitely see validity in all sides. I ultimately feel like it's just kind of an unnecessary video to create. They had to know going into it that the comments would erupt and just divide people left and right. There's nothing wrong with getting people talking but there isn't any civilized discussion in those comments. Lots of hate and ignorance and hardened minds from nearly all sides.

Yeah, but as said, the comment section of Youtube is toxic. There is no validity in Youtube comments anymore. It's not always about the discussion in the comments section, but the content of the video and the impression it leaves on the viewer. You know that, somewhere, a teacher will get to address today's race issues with this video. They'll have a clear and concise message to share with their class, from POC's point of view, in this video. POC who might've been feeling down about their skin colour will see this and, maybe, feel some solidarity. A child of colour, who's being bullied, might stumble upon this and realise that people aren't all ignorant and that people are fighting to make things right.

Personally, I believe that if something creates even the slightest positive affect, then it's worth having. I don't know about the other people commenting here, whether you're white or a POC, but sometimes things like this can really help. If you're white, you don't really get a say in this video, to be honest, because it's not hurting you at all. People say "Oh, white people are ignorant", but you still make more money than POC, you're less likely to get shot in the street, killed by police, you're more likely to get that job, get that degree, have a safe and loving place to turn to. You don't get made fun of for your skin colour, you're less likely to end up homeless, turn to drugs, suffer from addiction.

I agree with what you said. I totally agree with what you said about the comments, I was just making observations on them. I'm part Native American, if that's relevant at all. If this can bring about some good, then sure let it continue on. I just didn't think it was set up in a way to encourage a lot of thought or discussion, to me it felt like it was edited and set up in a way to drum up drama when it should have inspired change.
