As someone coming back from when the bottom of a map page had text links to all available locations, I find it incredibly hard to try and navigate to find anything now.
The new maps look wonderful but it's really frustrating trying to hover randomly around a map to try and locate what used to take all but a second. Half the time I'm still googling a location to get a direct link.

I gave up on using the maps a whole ago and I didn't even miss the change during a hiatus or anything. I just Google whatever I need to find and have my most frequent pages bookmarked.
I think there was a suggestion for this not too long ago. Either way, if googling works for you, is that so bad?
Yes, it is. We shouldn't have to Google every time we want to find a page because the maps are so hard to figure out.
The only maps I have trouble with are the underground ones. But really if I took some time to learn them, it wouldn't be too hard after awhile. Googling something is a really simple and easy solution to this though.
Yeah. Especially since Subeta seems to try and be really accommodating and easy to use.
I have a very hard time exploring anything beyond what I know I'm looking for. It's pretty limiting and since others seem to have the same problem with use I don't see why it would be troublesome to add text links back or have a page listing out all current locations.

This would be helpful for just knowing what there is to even look for on the maps. I've seen more than one person ask if there's anything to do in Shengui Guo because just hovering over the map it's easy to miss that there is the clickable floating market there. And how many people would notice little Oatmeal behind the brewery if they didn't already know, from either the initial release in the news or being told by someone else, to look for Oatmeal in Veta?
While googling functions as a decent enough fix for users that already know what they're looking for, that doesn't help new or returning users find stuff to do. Also, it's kinda pathetic for subeta's image that some players feel they have to resort to using google to navigate the site.
I usually don't have too much trouble locating what I want on the maps, since I've been playing for a while and know what to look for, but I would like this for when I'm using subeta on my phone. On my phone, images can sometimes take a while to load and it would save a lot of time to not have to wait for the map image to load to click where I want to go.
We didn't even get the pop-ups for months on end. I like it how it is now, tbh.
I'm pretty sure there was a suggestion board for this shortly after the Councillor's Cruise, and yet here we are. :P

Yeah, I think that was the case. People complained about the difficulty in finding things on maps when they KNEW they were there. Newbies have to have a hard time with this. Honestly, having used the site on mobile/tablets, I could see this being a good thing. Maps take forever to load, and even when I know where to click, it doesn't always recognize my touch on maps (for some reason).
I would also be up for another Cruise plot, so we can relearn all the locations, and see maps go into locations where they are still needed (I see you there, Lower West Side Centropolis).
The biggest frustration I have with the maps is that when I don't know where something is it takes forever to figure it out because I have to start in one map and find every single hover over just to realize... nope, what I want isn't on this map. Then on to the next map to do the same and so on an so forth until usually I just decide it's not worth it and go find something else to do. It's even more fun when what I'm looking for was on the first map I checked, but I missed it because I either didn't see it or didn't realize it was clickable.
I could google it, sure, but shouldn't I just be able to navigate Subeta easily without having to leave the site every time I want to visit something ON Subeta?I got to experience the (non)joy of trying to use the maps on an iphone the past two weeks. I had forgotten what the image maps look like as I never use them which equals that I've forgotten where most things are at. I use bookmarks because it's easier than looking at an image an trying to figure out if a certain page link is found on that map.
The worse for me was trying to use the Galley. Most of the time I couldn't get the site to register that I was tapping on a spot I knew is a link. lmao I may have frightened a few people as I cursed over that.

It's in the URL thing that pops up if you hover...

- You don't get that on mobile, and that still means you have to find the place to hover first. Some maps have really tiny spots to click, and then there's Centropolis where 70% of the buildings aren't actually clickable, so it's a constant game of Where's Waldo if you're not familiar with the maps.

Having maps encourages exploring. By having all of the links as text at the bottom, it kinda eliminates that. If people can't put in the effort to 1. learn where stuff is 2. google something if they have trouble finding it, why should something be made to make it even easier for them? Googling something will probably save time and clicks anyway. instead of clicking explore, then the land, then the place, they type into their address bar "the thing I'm looking for subeta" and hit enter, then click on the first or second link. I'd rather have staff working on stuff that needs fixed than on fixing something that already has a really simple solution.
- I like having the maps too, but I think they're poorly designed. When new players constantly overlook locations because the links are too small and hidden away in cluttered corners of the map, that's detrimental to their experience.
And yes, you can google things. But if you do that then you bypass the map every time, so you don't stumble across other links in the process (so much for exploring). (Plus Subeta loses out on page views and ad money, but that might be negligible since we probably all use adblock anyway. It still seems silly to shrug it off and tell people to google it or use Subetalodge when you could keep people here by having a more user-friendly design.)

They could probably be laid out better yeah.
If you play on subeta enough, don't you just keep a folder of bookmarks handy for places you go frequently? If not, if you type the place into your address bar, your history should pick it up and you can quickly get there without googling. If you don't visit that place frequently, there's a chance that even text links won't help you out since you don't know what land the place is in, and googling is your best bet anyway. No one is upset when they're told to use subetalodge even though the item directory could be made to be more functional. Text links would probably look clunky, especially on busier maps like centropolis.
Maybe there could be a compromise? Most of the major places have Subetapedia articles. It would be nice if they could have text links there under each region's article, that way the maps are an option for people who know what they're looking for. For new and/or returning users, the Subetapedia could be a really nice tool that is being kind of underutilized at the moment. Text links could be a nice addition to the functionality of it for users who aren't as familiar with the maps.
I don't see how it would hurt to have a little link at the bottom of the map page that led to a list of Text Links. We shouldn't have to go offsite to find things onsite. Like Speiro said, you can't hover on mobile. Also I don't know if this happens for anyone else, but sometimes my mobile just DOESN'T RECOGNIZE any links on the map even if I'm clicking the right place. But it never fails to recognize text links. Mobile is incredibly annoying to navigate.
