I was think about something random today, and I was wondering if anyone could help answer this question. Say that there is a group of individuals who are all older than 21 (legal drinking age in the U.S.), but they wanted to bring along a 20 year old. Would they be allowed to have the alcohol in the limousine even if the 20 year old did NOT drink? Also if there was an individual over 21 who consumed no alcohol, could they maybe vouch for the underage person and say they didn't drink? I'm not sure of the laws or how they vary from state to state. In this case though, I'm curious about the laws specifically in Massachusetts.

Please ping! Thank you. :)

I don't know much about American laws, but I know that where I am in Canada it's straight-up illegal to have open alcohol in a moving vehicle. Might want to check on that first? =P

[edit] I just looked it up (curiosity, as I had champagne in the limo on the way to my wedding and it didn't even occur to me then). Even though some companies make an exception for weddings, it's still illegal here. Woops. (Again, this is my local law.)

As for your situation specifically, look up the limo company you're hiring and see if they have a FAQ section. In my 10-second google search I found a few companies that specified their rules and regulations for how they handle legal vs underage alcohol in their limos. Whether or not they'll allow alcohol in a limo with a minor (or at all) may depend on who you're hiring.

(Really late reply. Sorry about that) Yeah, I know that there's some leniency with limos and alcohol since the driver is separated from the area in the vehicle where the drinks are present. At least there is in the US.

I did go through and check the FAQ like you suggested, and the companies did give their general regulations on alcohol. The only problem is none of them answer my question exactly, but then again, my situation is a very specific instance so no surprise there.

Thank you!

You could always call them and ask them directly? If it's unspecified on the website, it may be like any other alcohol served; so long as the one who's underage isn't partaking, it's okay. But, again, I'd give them a ring and see if that is in fact the case. Better safe than sorry, right? =)
