Well.. I think I learned my lesson the hard way tonight. I had two glass pie plates stacked together sitting on one of my elements. I was just starting to make dinner and I turned on an element, and put the pan on. After a few minutes, I put some water droplets in the pan to see if it was hot enough to add my chopped onion and garlic and cook my beef. The water wasn't sizzling, so I went to facebook and started browsing. There was this toxic smell and I thought that my pan was burning. I went into the kitchen and saw that I turned on the wrong element (the one with the pie plates) and the bottom plate exploded everywhere. I rushed my bird and hamsters into my bedroom, but the smell was really bad. I called my mom to see if my dad could pick up my animals and bring them to their house for a few days, but he left for work.
I ended up calling my work place (the pet store) and one of my co-workers picked up Buddy (my love bird) and dropped him off at my parents.
I burned two big burn holes in my carpet (one hole has smooth melted glass which I can't get out) and have tons of burn marks on my linoleum kitchen floor.
I tried calling my landlord to tell him about the accident and that I'll replace the floor, but he wasn't picking up his phone. I was shaking really bad and I was so cold. I burned holes in my socks and have a small cut on the bottom of my foot. My mom said I was really lucky the glass didn't blow up in my face and hit Buddy.
Today: Uuugh... why me? I had the accident last night and now my Alovera plant is rotten. I went to prop it up in the pot with it's stick and the whole plant came off the stem -________-
I have it in water to see if I can grow some roots -sigh-
holy crap that's crazy. hope you are doing ok. the damage sound really bad.
The damage is enough that I have to replace the flooring at my cost. I don't know what I'm going to do about the carpet.... I'll post a pic that I took last night.
are those melted glass? those are impossible to remove. so sorry you have to replace the flooring. and the carpet hole, you can't exactly patch it or replace a small piece right? it looks like one big piece of carpet.
why don't you check if the repair cost is cheaper than security deposit first?
I had to chisel the glass off the floor with my broom stick handle. The floor is pretty burnt from the hot glass.
My dad doesn't seem to think there's melted glass in the carpet. He thinks it's melted carpet fibers. My dad said he'll call around to see what costs are to replace my kitchen floor.
what kind of stove does that? shouldn't it have safety feature of some sort?
I have an electric stove and stove top. I should've been more careful I guess. My mom told me to never leave anything on the stove or elements again, unless it's a kettle.

yeah. that sounds like good advice. keep anything away from heat source. perhaps you might want to get a more safety oriented stove, since leaving stove unattended can be a habit (i have that habit too).
that's sucks. maybe that aloevera already weak. they are not so hardy, aren't they?
