I like the 'beaver' experiment suggestion, but here are some more ideas:

The Chibi Popoko has his pre-haircut 'floppy fringe' hair style, or the Scribble Fester seems to share his skateboarding hobby.

The Hydrus Chai looks like a Justin Bieber mid-dance performance, including tattoos! Or the Nightmare Charlie could represent some of the darker aspects of his celebrity image.

I think a reborn pet would look nice, vbecause they have a petulant/confident face ~ Also ~
