Who's Who and What's What

At Green Ghost Grange

Six years ago, Arthur Pennington purchased Green Ghost Grange, and moved there with his wife, Laurel, and their three year old daughter, Arabella. He got a bargain, since the inn was plagued by stories of ghosts haunting the abandoned vinyard out back. Arthur was determined, and he and Laurel worked hard on remodeling the place into a proper asteroid country inn.

Business began to thrive, and Arthur looked forward a busy holiday season. Before he could reach that, he was dead, killed in a tragic shuttle accident along with his beloved Arabella.

Prostrate with grief, the despairing Laurel still refused to sell her husband's dream, and she now struggles with mounting debt and no clue as to how to run a thriving business. She needs all the help she can get.

To this end, Laurel has "hired" a promotion agent, Kimatra Parvati, on an agreement for a share of the profits. So far, this has been Laurel's best moves, as Kimatra is slowly turning the popularity on the inn around by capitalizing on the ghost stories.

Another benefit to Laurel had been the presence of Carmen Hidalgo and her son, Julian. Carmen can be a precise and sometimes overbearing housekeeper, but she gets the job done, and as for Julian? He's not only handy, but gives sound business advice. He makes his own money, although no one is quite sure how, and hasn't charged Laurel a dime for all his repairs.

There are rumors than he likes the pretty widow, REALLY likes her.

But back to Kimatra's newest promotion: the Twelfth Night Shakespearean Masked Ball, a feature of January 6th, followed by many revels if you take the special 12 day package.

Already there are six guests booked for this package, and the arrival of Nutsy's Detectives, paid in advance from Squirrely's generous coffers, should see Laurel out of the red and into very solid black--if she survives to see it.

The Paying Guests

Dr. Stefanie Longacre: A professor at Spiratus University, Dr. Longacre is widely respected throughout the Nexus as an expert on paranormal phenomena. Naturally, the tales of Green Ghost Grange fascinate her, and she hopes to publish her investigation for more professional accolades. She is very competitive, perhaps manipulative.

Norman Sharke: Well named, this real estate developer from Nexus Centralia is famous, or best termed infamous, for securing desirable properties at rock-bottom prices. His sole reason for attending is to buy the inn and its surrounding property and turn it in to high-end condos for the playful rich. His boss, Rocknard Grabbingsly, has deep pockets and has ordered Norman to obtain the Grange properties at any price. Before Kimatra's arrival, the grab might have been a whole lot easier.

Denise Demond: Denise is Arthur's younger sister, supposedly at the Revels to support and console Laurel, which is strange, since she never liked her sister-in-law before and was opposed to her brother marrying her. She did, however, hold a sincere affection for her niece, Arabella.

Nigel Demond: One of the Nexus' most up-and-coming wine connoisseurs, he is here to attempt to placate his wife Denise, but plans to downgrade the inn for its poor wine cellars. He is a colleague of Grabbingsly, so he is much more likely to be here on the promise of a bonus than to express opinions as a true oenophile. Kimatra was once his assistant, but he had no idea she was now here.

Arlington Johnson: One of Laurel's friends and closest neighbor, this old duffer has been the librarian and historian of the asteroid for almost fifty years. If anything has happened in the last half-century worth knowing, Arlington is likely to know it. He also loves unsolved mysteries, such as the very strange shuttle accident that killed Arthur and Arabella. He lives not far away with his bulldog and two cats, and has never married. As a result, he's a bit eccentric, set in his ways, and just plain cantankerous with strangers.

Cheval D'Coeur: The real wine and food lover in the group, she is hunting for out of the way places that show promise for her substantial number of Nexus-wide blog followers. She simply stumbled upon an ad for the Revels and was intrigued. Unlike Nigel, she has no need for pretense. She really knows her stuff.

There are also three special guests: Imelda Spermophilus, a very popular squirrel singer from Nexus Centralia whom Kimatra hired as entertainment for the Revels, and the "protection" Imelda requested as soon as she learned of Grabbingsly's possible involvement: Chief Inspector Roquefort Brie and his intrepid assistant, Kandace.

The police folk are here on a brief holiday, and didn't plan to attend, but not many can resist Imelda's talent, beauty, and the potential for scandal in Centralia if something were to happen to her. Imelda is paying for the three of them, and her manager, Nigel Vulpine, a canny foxy show-biz veteran. (Wow! Two Nigels in the same room. What are the odds? Must be one of those cozy mystery things.)

(Everyone here can be considered a suspect, EXCEPT for Laurel, Chief Inspector Brie, and Kandace.)

About Scoring

Unlike WS events, ALL puzzles and challenges in Nutsy's are optional. You will need to complete them to gain clue points, enter some locations, and access certain reports and other elements.

Your team's success in the event depends SOLELY on providing the most complete solution to all aspects of the central mystery. The more complete, the higher your score.

I think it's safe to say that you'll want to do as much as you can in order to be able to find new elements and buy clues from other teams, or, if you're desperate, me. Warning: I charge double.)

About Clues and Points

If you do not use your clues to interview extra suspects or get additional information, you can add them onto your teams score at the end at 25 points per clue. Please note that Nutsy is not Wayward Squirrel. In many ways, it's much more challenging. Because it's a single mystery event, the puzzles are usually harder, and the plot has more twists and turns and develops more quickly.

Clue redemption is as follows:

Visit a location to which you don't have a key or didn't solve the puzzle, or get a clue from another team: 1 clue Get an extra clue from Arabella (beyond what she gives in the story) or consult with Kandace on the progress of the case: 2 clues Get a clue or converse with Arlington or Francine/Nutsy: 3 clues Get one from me: 4 clues

Arabella can tell you a lot about her home, and what she remembers of the accident, but her current observations may be hazy, as she is mow both a ghost and a child. Kandace is not Inspector Brie and a police officer, so she will confine her clues to observations and details on known facts.

Arlington is an expert on anything past or historical and can provide much background information. Francine is the best theorist in town, and Nutsy can provide odd details you might now have noticed.

I will give you a definitive clue, so I am expensive. :D

You do NOT need any of these if you investigate thoroughly and solve the puzzles and challenges, but they are all available to you.

Lots of confusion on getting clue from another team, so let's set up and exchange:

  1. If you want a clue, ask for it be number. "Looking to buy number 14," or something similar.
  2. If you are wanting to trade clues, list the clues you have, and also the clues you want. "Have 1,2,3,4,5,6,7; want 8 and 11," for example.
  3. If you don't want any clues, but are willing to let another team have one, just list the numbers of the clues you have.

You do not have to trade clues, even if another team wants one you have. I won't list who has what, so you just don't have to reveal or trade. The exchange is ONLY for those wanting and willing. :)

Please exchange clues here, or post requests for clues. I'm willing to extend the time if you think you will need it, AND provide one free clue per day.

Your clue today is: There is more than one murderer.

Has no clue when original deadline was due. I am pretty sure Fresh Out of Legends has been distracted by our own "research" we did and have no clue WHAT is going on. LOL
