hello!! does anyone else collect taxidermy and such things? my collection isn't too big...considering i work a minimum wage waitressing job in london. but at the moment i have: two roe deer skull caps, a set of roe deer antlers (these were the first things i ever brought...all of them are wall mounted and i had to get them at £17 for all three!), a taxidermy rabbit's head, a wall mounted taxidermy hare's head, a taxidermy wall mounted roe deer head (one of my absolute favourite pieces...its done so well i love it), a framed death head hawkmoth, a wall mounted taxidermy fox's head (one of my oldest pieces...dated back to almost 100 years), a roe deer jaw, two crow's feet, a fox pelt (think about the fashionable ones that women wore in the early 20th century...and it is an original from that era too!), a cat's skull, a sheep's skull, a taxidermy wall mounted wild cat (man this thing is so so old and so ugly. one of it's legs has no fur on it due to being moth bitten and when we first brought it home we had to gently beat out the dust...there was so much!!), a dog's skull (the person i brought it from reckons it's either a french bulldog's or a pug's skull), a taxidermy white (possibly albino) stoat and last, but certainly not least, is the most impressive, size wise, is a wall mounted antelope's skull (i am not too sure which species of antelope tho...)

i forgot to mention both me and my boyfriend have lucky rabbit's feet, and i brought my boyfriend a wall mounted fallow deer skull a little while ago but he mounted it to his room at work.

pretty much every piece i own is an antique. i know the story of pretty much every piece i own...many of them have been found in an attic, just collecting dust. the pieces that aren't antiques are very much 'ethical', as in animals that have been found which have died of natural causes, the sheep skull i have was literally found in a field...it still has pieces of grass or hay in the skull and is very much weathered.

i do not condone the killing of animals purely as a trophy, and whilst some of the pieces i own were originally trophies, they have been dead decades before i was even born so its death does not affect modern day populations, these pieces were made when hunting was common practice and people didn't know any better. i would much rather have these animals on display and in my collection than be stuck in an attic for years just gathering dust. if anyone even questions me about my collection and show interest in starting their own collection i stress to them that they should buy ethically, i even give them certain places to buy antiques from.

okay, that being said does anyone else collect? i don't know any collectors personally so it would be great to talk! if anyone is interested in seeing pictures of certain pieces please let me know and i shall post them!

I've got a juvenile seal pelvis, reflective orb from a shark's eyeball, some mysterious bone I have yet to identify, a snapping turtle skull, a rack of antlers, and a few other bits and bobs. I can't resist picking up bones when I find them. :D All my pieces are found naturally in nature (with exception to the shark eyeball, which I personally harvested from a dead lab specimen legally obtained and being dissected for research purposes).

I wish I knew how to keep them better. My skull fractured from dryness, and is in two pieces now. :(

I am personally not a fan of taxidermy and do not own any pieces (just my personal preferences!).

I have several mineralized fossils in my mineral collection, but no true bones or taxidermy items. I'm a biology major, though, and have recently learned how to make study skins and how to clear specimens in glycerin so that you can see vascular and bony structures inside of them without dissolving away the soft tissues. :) Super cool!

I have a couple mice in a jar. Other random deer bone fragments A couple bird heads I need to put in a jar soon. Bird Skull. I think its a raccoon skull. and a possibly skrew skull. Cow jaws. Cow or Llama spine fragment. Baby shark in a jar. My grandfather's dentures in a jar. I know I have more but they are slipping my mind right now

I'm not a collector exactly... not yet anyway. How interesting to find this. I have a feeling that this whole paragraph is going to sound somewhat creepy. I have two deer heads and three raccoon heads... Not finished or even started. They are in sealed containers in my freezer... because in the spring I am ordering beetles to clean them and then I am going to bleach them and make air plant homes out of them. My family hunts every hunting season. It's honestly the only reason we have meat throughout the year. That's where the deer heads came from. My uncle and his friend each brought one for me after their hunt this past November. The raccoon heads are from road kill. I live way out in the country and its not unusual at all to see road kill all the time. If its in decent condition I collect it's head for future art projects.

I also have a bag of about a hundred random shark teeth.

I can't say I really have anything at the moment. I do have a number of feathers that I have found over time. But I do want to own some skulls and such at some point.

My step-dad though, his brother is a hunter, and we have the heads of a deer and a goat mounted in the garage, and I know there is a pair of antlers down there too.

Vulture Culture and taxidermy always piques my curiosity, because I adore animals, and seeing how they work and such always makes me happy. Plus, I see preserving their remains, as, in a way, honouring them after death.

There is this one blog that I follow on tumblr, and the person who runs it has an amazing collection of pelts and the like. It can be found here if any of you are interested. Just warning that she does takes pictures of her processes when it comes to skinning and the like.

Oh, I collect skulls! And sometimes oddball bones here and there. My dad hunts and if he has no plans on mounting himself, he cleans the skulls and gives them to me when he comes to visit. I also will baggie bird skulls if I find them in-tact and boil and clean them myself. I'm anxiously awaiting the coyote skull and the bobcat skull he has for me. <3

Comically, my favorite piece is a clean but grungy looking deer skull Dad found in the old barn, rack still attached, overall in really good condition. He sits on my porch under the mailbox. Small children were afraid to come to my door on Halloween because of the demonic looking deer skull just minding his own business next to the door.

taxidermy is something i'm really passionate about and am trying to teach myself but i don't actually own any mounted pieces yet which is...unfortunate but i'm hoping that'll change this year haha

my current dead things collection is pretty modest rn. i've got a whole coyote pelt and a whole wolf, a red fox face and a whole possum i skinned and tanned myself, a few fox and coyote tails, a salted mink tail and paws that i still have to tan, two mummified bunny ears, two fawn jawbones, the skull of a doe that died in our backyard and an antique ram's skull along with like. lots of other small assorted bones, teeth and claws

I have like starfishes, shells, 3 framed butterflies (one has a series of 9 in one), a glass box display with 3 butterflies, a rabbit pelt, a fur rabbit pouch, and various feathers.

I have 2 budgies and I collect their molted feathers from time to time. Yes I have separate bottles for each of them.

I don't know if I will ever have the guts to collect like a skull or something bigger someday. I go to antique places a lot and see a lot of bad taxidermy which is spooky to me, I would want a nice piece. I like the framed butterflies because they are like scientific pieces and easy to keep safe.
