so ! backstory time!

a few months ago i met this person on twitter - they were really friendly & cute and we hit it off through a mutual love of dragon age and art. after chatting back and forth for a few weeks i started developing quite a bit of a crush, but i didn't really think too much of it bc a) they live in portland, i live in kansas and b) they seemed waaaaaaaay out of my league. well, after about a month of friendly chatter and getting to know each other, they confessed that they had a crush on me too. cue my soul leaving my body, lots of unmanly shrieking, ect. we exchanged phone numbers, and started talking on a near daily basis, and skyped/drew together on about a weekly basis.

we're dating now (on dates, dating - not in an official relationship. they made it clear that they want to spend time together ""irl"" before we consider anything super serious, which i'm totally okay with because it's smart!) and i wanted to ask the general public about ideas for dates and things, mainly so the both of us don't feel so lonely with the distance between us. we already have dates planned for when i visit over spring break, but that's 3 months from now, so having some fun & silly things to do between now and then would really help! also, this is my first somewhat serious "long distance relationship", so any tips and whatnot from people who've been through this before would be excellent!!

Not dating material but it can be used: Movie nights, online quizzes, roleplaying, online games and such. These are fun and interesting to do. Also, using Skype and webcam is amazing to see their reactions and to have a great time.

When my ex and me had a LDR when we both went off to college it was hard. He was 3-4 hours away and we'd only see each other a couple times out of many months. We would talk on the phone often, of course that's a given. It helps a lot. We would know each others schedules for classes/the day and keep each other updated. This helped us feel more close to each other and comforted in their well-being. It also helped if we knew the other one was busy, we would be intune with their lives. If this makes sense?! Lol. We would skype every Friday night and maybe do some kind of date night? Idk. I can't remember exactly what it was we did? Lol! My memory is killing me. I would sometimes randomly send him packages up.

There's a lot of things you can do for a LDR. I hope the best for you! Ask me if you have any questions :)

- I'm currently in an LDR w/ my sweets who lives in California and I'm in Wisconsin. I send him cards and letters occasionally, but we talk nearly every day since his work has picked up and he's either too busy or tired to switch gears. But I understand this, we've been friends for years so this isn't new. But, cards in the mail are nice. We also sometimes make short videos of snippets of our day, like for me, the kittens playing, or random selfies or loo it's not snowing yaaaay :D and he has sent me a few random selfies, ducks in a park, making oatmeal and bread and a hat he sewed.... so, there's an idea. I have been meaning to pen him a real letter but I've been so busy with crocheting projects for Christmas, sigh.... but he's getting some fudge for Christmas and maybe homemade tootsie rolls and something else, idk what yet. It's like here's a snippet of my day, and I thought of you. It is nice.

Oh Boy, Oh Boy! Things are exciting now huh?

My SO and I are LDR as well. I'm in Bellingham, Wa and he's in Jersey City, NJ. We're coming up on our 3rd visit/1 year anniversary now and I'll be honest, I'm 100% shocked we got this far.

First, Let me intro you to some Resources.

Rabb.it This handy dandy screen-share is wonderful for Netflix, Crunchy Roll, Reading Manga together, Shopping online together, etc. It essentially opens up a Google Chrome window on screen, that you can both see in real time. One person takes the "remote" and navigates. It has Webcam and Mic setup as well, and a sidebar chat. We even invite our friends sometimes to have movie nights! The only downside is you have to be able to find it on the internet, otherwise you can't get to it. I believe they just intro'd a Mobile app too!

36 Questions in Love Fun little thing to try one night. Sit down with some hot chocolate, tea or eggnog, and a snack. Turn on the webcams, snuggle down in a warm blanket and fall in love!

Reddit's Long Distance Sub This place is a godsend of inspiration! Look to them for different ideas, both in the sidebar where they post all kinds of helpful links, to the threads themselves. They are the 2nd reason I ever got a Reddit account in the first place!

As for some quick ideas... Try some drawing games for a date night! Like Draw Something. Play the Heads Up app on Cam! Have a group date! If you have other friends in a relationship LDR or even ones in real life who'd get online on skype with y'all, set up a group date! Maybe a movie night, or a game of some sort where you can play girls vs. guys, or couple vs couple. You could make a prequel date where you and your SO make a game for that date specifically! Make dinner together! Then eat it together! Have a Cultural Appreciation night where you each learn about a culture and then discuss things you found out that was cool. Bring links and recipes to the table, and consider trying them out in person together! (Maybe just I would like this, I love cultures and I think it's incredibly cool to study them.) Make a list of things to do in person!

Feeling Down? Need a Friend? Message Me! I am a Safe-Space. I will not judge, I will be patient, & you can tell me anything. I can offer advice, or I can just be there. It's your call. But please, Make the Call. I'm always willing to be there for you. Love, Chiibi Dearling

omg all of these ideas are so cute - thank you guys so much!!!

- packages are such a good idea!! i'm planning on sending them a christmas package once their presents are shipped to my house, so i'll make sure to pack it full of stuff >:^)))

- that's so sweet!! we do that sometimes, they don't use snapchat as much as i do but they've sent me videos of them watering their plants, or lil bits of their apartment, and i like to send videos of my cat & me singing badly in the car, haha. it's nice to have little snapshots of their life and vice versa!

- oh my gosh congratulations!! that's a huge milestone :^)!!!! and rabb.it is definitely one of my favorites - we actually used it last night (this morning?) to watch archer together, and that was a lot of fun. i'll definitely check out that reddit sub!!! and those ideas are so so cute, especially the dinner one!! aaaaa

thank you guys so much!!!!

Dates of going to dinner and a movie is very cliche'. Go the the zoo, ice skating, go to the beach (when it's warmer), shopping is a very good date, couples massage, etc.

My husband and I go out and do things like that and it always beat going to see a movie and grabbing dinner.
