still editing this post because this seems to be a sometimes occurring (for me anyway, more for other people) issue, and gotta hash everything out and what I suspect to be (a?) root to the cause

OK the problem at hand: It's one click, one page load = BAM double purchase/entry.

for some people it happens at different rates?chance? but certain instances of clicking through a submit or buy link/button, results in a double entry of that link/button DESPITE only clicking once with the mouse. Personally, I'm not clicking twice really fast and I'm 95% sure that it's not my mouse hardware being whack and clicking twice - EITHER WAY it's not like I'm loading the following page twice to result in a double purchase. It's one click, one page load = BAM double purchase/entry. And for whatever reason it's never 3 - if multiples happen, it's just 2.

IT'S THESE KINDS OF BUTTONS: it's really mysterious since it's both the input buttons and just anchor links (for buying) that go through twice, despite only clicking the button once. It's like the submit function wants to rev and do the purchase twice for whatever reason???

possibly related: cw double purchased | shengui guo double clothing orders | cash shop recent purchases count wrong

things that have resulted in double entries:

  • I literally just got double items from clicking once from Melody (hanging onto the items until I finally finish this thread and write a ticket to UAs)
  • double consecutive posts in forums (the site still allows the posts to go through, despite regular attempts to post consecutively throw an error) example (I can't see the exact second the doubles were posted, but I'm guessing they have almost the exact same time stamp)
  • starting/ending quests, I frequently get the "/start" or "/finish" page (as if I double clicked) where it (correctly) gives me an error that I can't start a quest at the moment (obviously because the first time it submitted, I started a quest), or I don't have the items (refresh /finish and it confirms that I'm not on a quest, correctly because I already finished the quest the first time it submitted and took the correct items and I got a payout already). It's just annoying, but it's another case button submitting twice to one click.
  • Quest shop. QUEST SHOP. BUYING ITEMS. Again, it decrements the correct amount of points for the 2xitem I wanted to purchase.
  • once upon a time, I got a double purchase from the cash shop cart. I got credited for what I supposedly bought (2 items for the correct price), and I wasn't too peeved so I just kept the item. ugh ok I'm just going to paste a list from where she's getting the double issue:
    Quote
quest shop, steamworks menagerie/lounge, cash shop (but not when i add shit to the cart, only when i click one item to buy), loyalty shop, esther&;s, hustler

A blundering guess to a solution? the root of the problem? computers are witchcraft [wip] anyway, my friend has reported that she doesn't seem to have this happen in mobile version of subeta, but when she (on mobile, mind) switches to desktop view, she has this issue crop up again. I'm not sure how to view html source in mobile so I can't highlight the differences in raw html (as this may as well be a php/backend related issue), but this tells us that

  1. this isn't a hardware issue - my mouse isn't actually quickly clicking twice, as on phone screens it's really really hard to attain the same speeds of submit with your finger
  2. there's something wonky going on with the coding of the buttons here yo the only thing I have to wager a guess on right now is that the buttons are often wrapped in a div that share css root (parent?) names? -- I'm no CSS expert and the times I've played with css objects with NAMES WITH SPACES have been wonky so I've stayed away from using id/classes with spaces. I have no idea how CSS of all things would actually affect backend functioning but that's the only thing I have to go on at this very moment.

There's also something weirdly suspect with the quest start input buttons...? I'm not sure if this has been this way forever since I haven't been having this doubling issue from when the "new code/quests look" was implemented but doubles certainly weren't happening in the old quest - and I have no idea what the html for those looked like.

However, I know not all the buy/submit buttons that are cropping up issues are form/input-input buttons so it's probably something else as well -____-;

this has been driving me crazy for months.

when i purchase from specialty shops, i wind up with x2 of the item and i'm charged twice. this doesn't happen on shops that have a timer set between purchases (like the token shop and main shops), so i think the timer prevents the second input/submission from going through.

it doesn't matter what browser or laptop i'm using (i've tried mac vs windows and different os versions and mouse vs tablet and chrome vs firefox)

but i did find this out (which has been mentioned previously and probably means that it's a coding issue / not software or hardware related):
