For example, that forum group's ping wouldn't be blocked. Duh. Also, sorry in advance for the lovely repetition of forum group's forum etc c: (Maybe we could call forum group forums something else? Hangouts? Not sure if that would get Google breathing down Subeta's neck or not).
But in other cases, it might be nice if they were, or to at least give an option.
For example, under a specific forum group (say # news) I could specify that pings can only go to the main part of the forums (possibly even excluding the GA forums would be nice).
Additionally, if someone wants to allow their group to be pinged to other forum group's forums, you could always block someone who isn't a member of both groups from getting the ping. Or give them the option to block as such.
This may be doable with some crazy nifty custom CSS or something, but it really feels like it should be addressed in the default workings as well.
(And I still throw my hat in the ring for addressing forum groups and blocking while we're at it, but that is technically a different issue).
Something I would like to see, that I thought this might be addressing, is pinging other groups within your group's special forums. I got a ping yesterday that I couldn't access the forum for because I wasn't in the right group (which, by the way, the link that seemed like it should take me to that group didn't work). I'd like that sort of thing to not be possible, if it wasn't too complicated to code.
This seems very unnecessarily complex.

That's exactly what the OP is asking for. But if, for whatever reason, they did not want to outright ban such pings they could make it an option.
Okay well in that case I agree, but apparently I was having more trouble reading the OP than I even realized because I did not get that at all haha sorry >.<
Private forums?
And yeah, we shouldn't be getting pings for forums we can't access. There doesn't need to be a manual setting or anything. Just straight up hide pings that you can't access. I assume we all got that # Wearable ping the other day when someone quoted one of my posts in a private forum? There are 1674 people in that group currently, and I'm willing to be the vast majority of us couldn't access that private forum, so that's just silly.
