Hey guys. So I'm really stuck in a rut right now that I can't get out of, so I need advice. So I'm currently working at a retail store called Ross part time, but I get really good hours. I just got hired about a week ago at another retail store, Victoria Secret. When I was younger I always wanted to work at VS, it was just a girls dream. But since I've been working there, it's the total opposite. So I work at Ross, Monday-Friday and Victoria Secret on Saturday and Sunday, plus Thanksgiving and Black Friday. Since I'm only available on weekends, they give me the worst shift ever. 4am-12pm. Waking up early isn't that hard for me, but I feel like a zombie throughout the day when I get off, and I don't want to take a nap, because it'll throw my sleeping schedule off for the next day. The 4am-12pm shift is mainly just a shipment shift, unpack boxes and put it out on the floor. Doesn't seem the slightest bit hard, but there is so much to remember that they expect you to the first day you come in. There is over 20 panties styles and 20 different bra types, and they all look the same. They expect you to go super fast, when it's your first time doing it, and you have know idea where anything goes. Now, the cashier shift is anywhere between 10am-12am is way better, you just get to ring up items all day. Which it does get confusing because there is so many promotions going on that you need to know at the top of your head. But I only have that shift twice in the whole 9 weeks of working there. The discount is amazing, we get 30% off of things that aren't on sale, or on promotion. And we get discounts at Bath and Body Works, since they are sister companies. I want to stick it out till the end of December when my seasonal time will be up, and my school will be starting the first week of January. I'll have a lot of money saved up before I go to school, since I'll have to cut my hours back at Ross since I'll be going to school full time. But I just hate the tasks I need to do, the exception I need to meet, and some of the people are just a pain in the arse. I understand I'm a grown up, and it's life and you just have to deal with it. And it doesn't seem that hard, but it's completely different when you're in the shoes of what's going on.

Does anyone know what I should do? Be miserable and just deal with it?

My personal opinion on this is that, unless you really really need the extra money, it doesn't make much sense to put yourself through something that makes you feel MISERABLE.

If you are financially desperate then, unfortunately, you probably need to "suck it up". On the bright side, it will only be for a month.

Unless it gets to be completely unbearable/you'd rather get into a car accident than go to work, I might just hold out until December, and then see how things go from there. Who knows, maybe things'll change as time goes on? And at least it's only a couple days a week.

The extra money will be nice, especially since you'll be in school.

That's true. I mean, I don't need the money, it'd just be nice to save up the money I do make since I'm starting college in a couple months and have some fall back money, or some free money to go do things with my boyfriend. I think it'll be logical for me to quit after black friday, because I'll be getting time and a half. Then I'm going to go haywire with my paycheck and use the rest of my 30% off, haha.

Yeah, I was thinking that too. But like I said ^^^ I think I might just quit after black friday. Like, I don't really need the money, and I can just work weekends again at my other job. At VS I would be working like 8 hour days, but Ross they would give me like 4-6. Which I don't mind because my body needs to relax sometimes.

I'm a little biased but I used to work at Bath & Body Works and they treated me so terribly that I haven't set foot in that store or any of its sister stores since I quit. So I can DEFINITELY see where you're coming from when you say they want you to remember 1,000 different things and promotions and give you garbage shifts and treat you like a robot.

(My current job has me working 5:30am-3pm shifts so I also have immense sympathy in the I-can't-function-with-or-without-a-nap area)

That said...you sound like you know your stuff though and would fare MUCH better than I did in retail. I worked Black Friday and Christmas and honestly it wasn't as bad as I thought it would have been. SO, like everyone else here, if you reeaally like that second paycheck, grin and bear it. It'll be over with soon. Good luck!!!

I'm glad you understand where I'm coming from, haha! I honestly think I'm going to try to bare with it a couple more days. I work tomorrow, Friday, and Saturday. I'll be getting paid time and half, and I'll be working 7 hours. I'm usually only scheduled weekends, and they don't have me scheduled for next week. I honestly don't really care about the money and the paycheck that I'm getting from there, I just like the 30% off there and the sister stores. The girls are just really rude, and boss you around when they're not even your manager, lol. So we'll see how I feel after black friday, I suppose!
