[sub] Today, I was instructed that I need to switch to a dairy-free lifestyle. (By my doctor.) Ironically, I had recently been thinking about trying this out anyways. However, I'd also been thinking about switching to a meat free diet, as well. Though, I'm not really sure. I'm still doing research and am hoping to hear from some of you wonderful Subeta folk. d:

I was hoping that perhaps you could share your experiences, tips, resources, recipes, starting places, ideas, etc. I was informed that Vegucated was a good documentary to watch, have you seen it? Worth watching? How do I know what products contain dairy? Etc? d:

♥ Sorry! I really don't know what I am doing. ♥ If you're willing and kind enough to help me out, please PING me. ♥ Thank you. [/sub]

I can tell you that all products (at least in the US, don't know about elsewhere) are legally required to be labelled that they have dairy in them. Most things that don't will say 'dairy free' somewhere on the packaging.

Vegucated is pretty good from what I remember. It was quite a while ago that I saw it though. Going to YouTube and typing in things like 'dairy free' or 'vegetarian' and the like is a good idea too. You'll run into the usual internet idiots, but you can weed those out easily enough.

Meat free is definitely a good way to go. I'm almost completely vegetarian myself. With all the chemicals and hormone treatments and generally shitty conditions the animals are kept in, it's better for your health and the planet's to give up meat.

Here are a couple of interesting sites that might help: The Vegetarian Resource Group Vegetarian Times List of Dairy Free Foods Milk Free Pantry

I just went vegan this past week and so far so good. I've been vegetarian since I was 15 and I'm now 31. I always hated the texture of meat so it was really easy for me to give it up. It's different for everybody of course. There's always the soy meats which can be pretty good and they have vegan cheese too but I haven't tried it yet.

Always read the list of ingredients on whatever you buy. Under the ingredients it will say what allergens it contains (in the US at least), so for example it will say Contains: soy, wheat, eggs, milk, treenuts...etc. Here are a few vegan youtubers I watch if you want to check more into dairy free vegetarian or vegan lifestyle. Not sure if the links will work but here they are:

Hope this helps. Feel free to ping me if you have any questions or whatever. c:

and Ooooh. Thank you for the input and the resources. ♥ If you guys have any specific favorite recipes, please let me know. :D I love recipe suggestions and since I'm completely lost, knowing some good ones could never hurt. d: Thank you again. My mom encouraged the vegan option, because when I was vegetarian for awhile, I apparently seemed at my best, health and energy. ♥

I don't really have much time for cooking, but I love the foods from Evol. They have burritos and things and a lot of them are vegan/dairy free.

One thing I love making is libanese meze, the vegetarian stuff anyway. Taboulé is the name of the bulgur with parsley, chopped onion and tomatoes salad you can eat as much as you like and it's very easy and quick to make it. Also hummus(mashed chick pea with garlic, oil, salt) is good to have as a resource of protein but also as something you can put on your sandwich.

OMG. Thank you for that information. There are a lot of times where I don't have the energy to cook meals, so that is really good to know. ♥

Hummus is thankfully something I love using on my wraps. ♥ Thank you for your suggestions. I will have to look up Libanese Meze. c:

Oh man, I don't even know!

I made this curry the other night and it was really good. I used a bag of stir fry veggies, only one can of coconut milk, and served it over brown rice. It was really good.

I made this chili. Also pretty good.

I want to make some veggie soups again but I need to find a good brand of vegetarian bouillon cubes. But this is the soup recipe I (somewhat) follow.

And then I've had veggie burgers on whole wheat buns with french fries and ketchup, and spagetti a few times. For breakfast I blend some frozen berries or other frozen fruit, a frozen ripened banana, and almond milk in a blender to make a smoothie.
