For those of you who play on XBOX, do you ask people their ages before you add them or hang out with them?

For me and my boyfriend, we have a rule that that we don't add people who are younger than 18. Especially people of the opposite sex, though there's some leeway when it comes to people of the same sex (we usually agree at age 17 for that). I'm wondering if any of you do the same thing or if you don't think it matters or feel like it's different in any way.

I see a lot of people saying "well, it's different than hanging out with them in real life or talking to them on Facebook." Well tbqh, I personally don't think it's different and I think it's strange for people in their twenties and above to hang out with young teens on XBOX, especially when older guys are hanging out with 13, 14, 15 year old girls.

And for those of you who are parents, do you have any rules about the ages of people your children hang out with on XBOX?

I don't play with a headset in.

I've been taken at 26 for a fourteen year old dude. I've had a console in some form since I was actually fourteen and I've never had a problem with it but then again, I liked to give as good as I got an established a reputation for myself as the quiet one that everyone was scared of popping up in Halo matches. (I still am.)

I think it depends purely on the child and what they're playing to begin with. The ESRB/PEGI ratings are there for a reason.

I think it can be hard to judge someone's age based off what they sound like over Xbox live. People always think I'm some really young girl but I'm 21 so it can be difficult/annoying to make decent friends through that. In terms of myself though, if someone sounds REALLY young and try to lie about their age, I'll just mute them or block them if they bother me too much. You'd think people over a console wouldn't try to hide/lie about their age, but people are weird. And I wouldn't hang out with them until I knew what they actually looked like (like I skyped a few of my Xbox friends so I would definitely hang out with those people).

I'm in the same boat as the others here. I'm 22, but people who I haven't met before think I'm either a boy who hasn't hit puberty yet or a younger girl. It's just the way I sound over Xbox live and they're probably more used to talking to other guys, so I get it. But at the same time, I only really talk to my friends that I actually am friends with in real life. The only other people I have played with that I have not met are coworkers of my friends, so at least they know them. I can only think of a small handful of people I have played Xbox with that live in a different state that I've never met before (though I have met one of them!) but they are about my age anyway.

If anyone sounds pretty young that I don't know, I typically just mute them. When I'm playing by myself and not in a party chat with my friends, I usually don't wear a headset.

I don't really use headset and so for XBOX, but when I was younger, like twelve, I used to play grandchase on pc online (rip gc :( ) and I would befriend girls who were a lot older. But once there was this creepy dude who keep following me since I was 13 till 17 oO. So now I'm a lit bit more cautious when befriending people online, and don't really play games a lot anymore (but that cause I don't have time, I'm trying university entrance exams this year).

I don't really care about ages. I've seen 20-and-30-somethings act like moronic 10-year-olds and I've seen 13-year-olds who are more mature than someone twice their age. It's more about each person individually for me. I'll play with someone of any age as long as they're not shrieking and freaking out and generally being an obnoxious idiot. If someone can play the game well and they're a decent human being, age doesn't matter to me.

I hated the community of Xbox Live, and not only did I have a problem with that, the hardware was a joke. That's why I switched to playing games on a high-powered desktop PC. The community is better there, though there are always bad apples in every bunch. So I play friends-only now, online.
