Guys, I would like to ask you something, if it isn't instrusive! I loved asking that on neopets, but they would always ban me for that! So, it's just a simple thing. I'm very curious to know how high school and college relationships really are on US. My image of them is based on Mean Girls and such kinda of movie. It's really like that? Or are people more open minded? Cause I have had all kinda of experiences here in Brazil high school, but generally, people just accept everyone and talk to everyone. We (we brazilians, I'm not included in that) kinda kiss all the people in class without getting in any relationship, at the partys, so there are not really popular kids or couples in here. So, I would like to know if it's like this in US too? Or are people more segregative and introverted, in general? My friends who studied there on exchange programs confirmed that, but maybe we are kinda too liberal. Even though I talk to everyone in class and have few friends, not just from school but others places too, I'm considered shy for not being like, best friends with everyone! I always wondered if I would be considered shy in other countrys too. I tend to start the conversations, talk a lot online and in real life and go to all school partys and such on. I guess I would be outgoing in there LOL. Another thing I'm also curious about is teacher-student relationship. Here people go out with teachers to partys and to Pubs. I imagine this may sound weird, is common there too? And in college and universitys (according to friends, I'm still in school), people don't really live in the campus. They live in their own houses and go there everyday. It's a really liberal place, where everything you can imagine happens. But it's cool too, it has a feeling of acceptance and maturity. Sorry for the grammar errors and for repeating the same words ( I don't know many in english). So, feel free to change my mind about how US really is. Probably I'm very wrong! And also, you can ask me whatever you want about my country!
Life in the US really isn't anything like the way it's portrayed in movies. There might be some high schools or colleges where people are similar to the characters in Mean Girls, but in general it's not like that.
When I was in high school everything was pretty relaxed, there weren't really any cliques. There were groups (Stoners, Band kids, etc), but people would talk to others outside of their general group all the time. I'd say I was fine with talking to pretty much anyone, if they really wanted to talk to me (I'm pretty introverted myself). Of course there are some people who won't talk to anyone, and some people who try to be friends with everyone they meet. It really depends on the person.
As far as teacher-student relationships, it would be considered extremely unprofessional for a teacher to invite you to their home. This goes for college too.
There are some people that live on campus in college. I tried it my first year of college but really hated it. There were constant parties and it was never quiet...plus it was just expensive in general. After my first year I moved back into my mom's house and simply took the bus to college. Much cheaper and I could relax more.
I do think you would be considered pretty outgoing here :) But just like in Brazil there are plenty of highschoolers and college students that love to go out and party every night. Our two countries probably aren't quite as different as you imagine.
i'm not sure about college, because i don't start until january! but as far as high school, it's definitely not like mean girls at all, at least in my experience. my school was actually pretty cliquey, but it was also really involved and most people seemed to get along pretty well without too much cattiness. in mean girls and other media that comes from america they always make our high schools seem like such crappy places to be, with such rude people. it's true, there are those you don't really wanna hang around because they're rude or whatever the reason, but for the most part it's all pretty laid back.

In college teachers will occasionally invite the whole class over for dinner, though this only applies to small classes.
As far as living on or off campus, it really depends. Some schools have really cheap/available housing nearby, others don't. Some schools offer certain deals for those living on campus. My college divided housing up so that the quiet folks can live in quiet spaces (e.g. designated "party" dorms).
Yeah, I found this to be true. My psychology professor always had end-of-semester parties and he'd invite everyone over for dinner, drinks, and often really neat interesting stories of his world travels.
My high school, however, was a lot like Mean Girls. While most aren't, mine was just generally cliquey and very full of drama and bullying and the teachers and principals didn't even give a damn. They pretty much said "you can deal with it yourself" even when people were dogpiling someone with bullying.
(Yeah, you can tell I HATED that school.)
I've got flames on my chest. It's a lot to live up to.

My high school was not at all like Mean Girls, or really any movie. It's the only high school in my town because it's such a small town, and everyone basically knew everyone else. Whenever a "new" kid came to school, they already knew people from our school anyway because all of the surrounding towns are really small too, so no one was ever really new or an outcast. The parties that people had in high school weren't crazy like movies portray either. It was mostly just like less than 15 people chilling at a house, drinking a little, and maybe smoking. Nothing ever got out of hand, at least at the ones I went to. (I didn't go to many parties though, so idk.)
As for college, I take online classes, but I know my school is pretty chill. One of the dorms has a float-in movie night where people just relax on pool floaties in the heated indoor pool and watch movies. lmao The campus is in San Francisco, so I think a lot of the students commute there just because of how ridiculous housing costs are, both for on campus and their own apartments.
