Does anyone out there know a good provider of low-cost internet?
We need the Internet badly. We cannot afford much, we do not want to bundle, should we wish to cease one service or the other, and we have absolutely no idea what data usage or whatever we need. I’m trying to do some research, but to be frank, I have no idea where to even begin my search. Where do I begin to figure out what “plan†we need?
The Internet is such a necessity now, it’s pathetic that there are no services for low-income people.
it's really going to depend on where you are, some places only have one or two providers not to mention differences between countries. We can't really give you suggestions without knowing what's in your area.
Most providers I know don't give a data limit really, but a speed limit so that's probably what you'll look into. If you just use it for email or browsing news sites and stuff you can get something low but if you need it for watching videos or downloading/uploading large files you'll need faster internet.
Where are you? Just a general location, US or UK or whatever. Because depending on that, you may have some low income options.

I'm in Florida, US. I wouldn't know what to look for in a speed limit, either. I do know that I won't be playing heavy games or streaming or anything like that. My internet life consists of Neopets, blogging, and uploading my art. My mother might be watching YouTube videos, and I'll be doing homework that may consist of instructional videos, but that'll be it.
That helps.
Check into local ISPs. The one that my parents and I use is local and highspeed DSL for like $50/month. I know there's lower plans but you'll have to research.

If your household includes a student who is eligible for free/reduced school lunches, you'd be eligible for the Internet Essentials program from Comcast for $9.95 per month. That price even includes the modem rental.
Ah, that sucks! Figured i'd throw it out there though. Unfortunately, i'm not aware of any other low-cost programs...i hope there is something that will help you though, or at least a cheaper ISP in your area!
So you're in Florida...I'm not sure but is Time Warner Cable in your area? I know they have a few under $30 plans but I'm not sure how good the internet is for lower prices. They have Basic which is $30 a month for speeds up to 6/1mbps and there is 15 per month for 2/1mbps. But you'd have to go to the site to see if they're available in your area.
