Im a ten year player of neopets, which has a terrifying capitalist neopet market for valuble pets that has gotten wayyy out of hand now in 2015. I am well versed in the trading community there, but here Im not sure how it works. Does anyone have tips/tricks of pet trading (if that's a thing here) adopting, potion and color worth and the like? it would help this non-binary dude out. Thank you!

We've got an adoption forum here, where people might put up their pets for adoption (no selling or trading though, just simply finding new homes for pets you might not want to keep for a reason or another, or putting out applications if you happen to be looking for real names / words / low IDs / etc). Some people might ask for applications - a paragraph or few for a character idea, or to tell what you're planning to do with the pet if you became the new owner, but not everyone requires that either.

I'm not very familiar with Neopets' lingo, but these are some of the abbreviations you'll likely see here at least:

UFA: Up for adoption RN: Real name RW: Real word

Most people also use color abbreviations if the colors are lengthy, eg. BR = bloodred, GY = graveyard, NM = nightmare, SH = sweetheart. Low ID pets are also pretty sought after by some people, but again, no selling or profiting from pet adoptions is allowed.

There's also The Pound (located in Delphi on the map) where you might adopt a pet without any forum hassle, if that's more up your alley. We had a name clearing not too long ago, but now it looks like someone has already spammed the pound with dozens of the almost same name ( |: ).

The Bhakoru is currently a very limited pet, since you may only acquire them if you participated in an old event, and sometimes people might help others to get the species, which I don't believe is against the rules, as long as it's kept non-profit, and there are no trades.

Colors that change the common pose to something unique are usually more expensive, and can only be obtained via the potion itself, while there are specific elixirs for common poses ["color species elixir" vs "color potion"]. You can find potions either at user shops, the Token Shop (Delphi - Carnival, all item restocks are announced on the news), but some are constantly available in the Cash Shop. Basic elixirs restock at the Apocalyptic Apothecary, which can be found via main shops and in Darkside. You can see all the colors and species listed on Subetalodge. (:

Welcome to subeta, btw!

thank you so much! That's exactly the comprehensive advice I was seeking. Neopets uses UFA, RN and RW too, but the colors here are different so I did not know the shorter color abbreviations. Im sure I'll get the hang of things once I decide which pets I'd love to have. And yes, I've noticed the pound has a lot of repetitive names, and I'm glad subeta actually cleans it out, Neopets is backlogged for years worth of abandoned pets, most of them have names like "fjiosejf__sjd11" or "adoptmeburgercat". thank you again for all the information, and the welcome! It seems this site is a lot more user-friendly and pet-oriented than what Neopets has become. I hope to be very active here!

One of the best places to see all the different color combos is this site. (If you haven't seen it yet) :) There are tons of great real words and real names available on subeta so you can almost always find something great! Here, when accounts are inactive for a year, the user's name and pet's names become available to take which is really great. (much better than neo!)

no problem, glad to be of help! It's been far too many years since I played Neo, I never really got into the trading business or the forums in general there, so it took me a while here to realize what every letter combination meant. Like mentioned, you can check all the available colors either at Neocolors or Subetalodge and see what kind of pets you'd like to have. I personally use the lodge, since it's also a wonderful place for searching specific items and keeping up with your collections. We haven't had clearings all that often, so the pound gets pretty cluttered after a while (especially now that someone seems to have spammed it just to be an ass about it), but I remember the pain of using the pound on Neo because of that, thank goodness it's nowhere near as bad here, at least for now.

We also have the Zapper (we used to have two, but now they're combined into one). Like the Token Shop, it uses Wizard tokens to operate, so doing the Wizard's quests as often as you can will help you get both sp and tokens really fast. The Zapper might turn your pet into something completely random, it can change anything from stats to gender to species and color, but it might also miss and turn your pet's minion into goo or shoot at your inventory, so make sure you stash everything away before using it. However, the Zapper is the only way to obtain certain pets called Experiments, so if you want one of those, the Zapper is your friend. There's a safe way to obtaining random experiments if you choose to pay the extra 400k sp, but there's still no guarantee which experiment you'll get.

I'd say that subeta is quite vast when it comes to how you play the game, aside from pets, focusing on human avatars (HAs) is very popular, especially after custom wearables (CWs) were allowed on site. You started at a great time though, we're currently in the middle of a scavenger hunt mixed with the arrival of the Freyalise, a pirate ship that docks only once a year, so get your goodies while you can. Soon Alegarten will start, and then it's almost time for Morostide, everyone's favorite pumpkin patch. We had a bit of an actual plot this summer regarding angry spirits, so there's a chance that we'll get some continuation to it when Morostide starts. Site-wide events are always fun. ;u;
