Okay so I end up accumulating a lott of clothes from quests. In the case that not everyone is aware, you can specifically donate food to Charity here: http://subeta.net/explore/freefood.php?act=donate According to the Subetapedia, she gives out food because the masses are in need etc. ...but even if you're fed, what about the cold winter and even fall days for those without shelter? I was thinking maybe we could have a specific place for clothing donations or even an NPC for it. If not, a place to donate clothes for newbies? If it's still in effect, instead of choosing a newbie set you get a selection of anonymously donated items. We actually need food items for battling, but we don't need toys as much I would think. I'd say there should be a book donation thing as well, but you know how books are popular. & so I'd suggest a clothing and toy donation sort of thing.
is there a reason that here is not a good place to donate stuff?
Of course I know about the donation center, but I thought it'd be a neat idea for clothes as well. I mean we have a specific place to donate food, y'know?
does that food donation do anything besides at fireside when you get random items from that? It just seems like a useless feature most of the year to me. It would be one thing if someone else could use the food you donated there, but I really don't think that food goes to someone else, it just disappears into the void. I just don't see the appeal of having one for clothes and toys. It might be interesting to have the newbies get randomly selected items from donations like you said, but I don't know how much that would be utilized, if people want to give newbies gifts now, they can anonymously send them gifts which does go on now. So I don't know. If it could turn into a sink for junk items that are not fraggable and make it worth it for people to use other than out of good will, I think I could support it.
Hrm well I think there's an achievement for it unless I'm wrong. I've been seeing some threads about wanting to get rid of the anonymous option when gifting. With my suggestion (?), you can at least donate all to one place and it's luck thing for users within 5 days, maybe? This way people can just pick out of items without a username, versus for example some users receiving expensive items anonymously and feeling bad for it. "If it could turn into a sink for junk items that are not fraggable and make it worth it for people to use other than out of good will, I think I could support it," I think you might have a point. : o
very well could be. I don't follow achievements much xD hm I wouldn't support getting rid of an anon option. I have a feeling a lot of people would be against that too. maybe donation center stuff should just all be anon?
Yeahh I don't really, either, I just search up achievements that I don't mind doing. I am fairly sure those do not exist haha.
Really? I've been seeing a pretty good number of posts where users would be gifted expensive things anonymously and... from the stuff I've read about not feeling well about it yeah... some people would be gifted WL items they already have that are very pricey, some would feel really bad and want to know who it was, etc. Possibly? I don't exactly visit the donation center directly much since I'm not going to start battling (when no events are going on) as of yet.
I've seen threads about blocking gifting completely, but removing the anon option I haven't seen. If you don't want gifts from anon people, you can block gifts from everyone except friends and if you get an anon gift, you can yell at all of your friends lol. Do you use the resort to feed your pet? If you just need to keep them fed for battling, that's your best way to go :) I think having an anon option or making all of the DC anon could be a route to take on this. I just don't think something like the food donation thingy gets much use when it isn't fireside. Maybe this idea could be something for a future event instead? similar to fireside but with clothing or toys, and you get something random on occasion in return.
I think it was here http://subeta.net/forums.php/read/840450/Blocking-gifting/2 (and others; plus the title says blocking, but I think I remember otherwise with individual posts) unless you're right and it was just to remove it completely. It's not me haha I just understand somewhat of how users do not like being gifted anonymously.
I do not because I rarely EVER feed my pets lol. I have yet to get into battling because I put a halt to my training for reason. I also accumulated a decent number of very cheap food items from quests, so I have some in my vault lmao. You have a point, but from what I know, there's a number of users who like doing achievements. I'd think when you have way too many food items and you're rich, you could go for the donating food achievement. You have another good point it sounds really nifty for a future event haha. If anything, I just suggested a slight basis for this, but as for making a good idea, I'd say others should continue on it if they have anything good? I don't really know, I was kind of just throwing this out there ack.
that thread I thought was to just block gifts from everyone, not removing the anon gifting. there's no way to block gifts from even your friends.
I know :) I was just trying to expand upon the idea, trying to make it more practical or fit in so people would actually use it. if I came across harsh, I didn't mean to :p
Yeah if there were achievements for it, I am sure people would do it, especially if there was a forum title or prize for the tiers.
Yeah it makes sense and doesn't to me with the whole friends gifting you thing. However like you said you can tell if they did when you have options disabled! xD
Yepp it's appreciated that you did so. Oh no you didn't, it's that I felt like my intentions (?) were being misunderstood with your first post haha. Although I could've been more detailed and the like, so eh.
I dunno about others, but whenever there's a forum title involved, with slight excitement I check to see if I can do it. Tier prizes I think would also maybe pique users' interest!
It's a nice idea, but honestly I don't really see much need for a clothing-specific donation place or NPC. As already pointed out, you can already donate clothing and other items via the donation corner. I could see maybe expanding Charity's pool of acceptable items to include clothing, but for no really good reason other than it makes sense, since many real-world donation sites, charities, drives, etc. accept both food and clothing (often furniture and personal grooming items too, if we wanted to include those). But as far as any practical reason, there really isn't one that isn't already covered elsewhere.
It's really sweet of you to think of newer players though! I'm not sure because I'm only around every now and then, but I think there are some other people around here who put together newbie packs, you might want to get in touch with them if you'd like to help out. Or check out the giveaway forum. Good luck!
I already thought that maybe Charity could accept clothing along with food, but I find her a lot more food oriented? I thought that it wouldn't really make sense since her backstory is all about giving people food. That's what I thought, too, how real world organizations accept a variety of things. The thing is, it goes back to how Charity gives out and accepts food, not clothing etc.
I'm interested in helping out, yeah! You have a point; I'll check out the giveaway forum when I can!
This is not a feature that is needed, it really seems like a solution that you really have to stretch to find the problem for. Furthermore I've been seeing suggestions for things like what are done in Neopets and there's a clothing-only place there. Fuck anything that makes it more like Neopets here. Subeta is better.
There's lots and lots of features for giving. Giveaways are allowed here, so if you want to publicize your giving you can do that, or you can gift stuff to folks in Welcomes & Introductions or Help & Questions either anon or named or do it directly yourself. If you don't want them to feel guilty buy something from their shop? If your friends are giving you stuff you don't want they're not really friends, and they're harassing you which is against the rules.
Just saying, I don't exactly care for Neopets. This suggestion had nothing to do with the site. I just thought it'd be nice to have a place for clothes, like how we have one for food specifically.
I never wanted to publicize giving stuff out individually lol. At most I'd join a giveaway thread and maybe contribute, but that wasn't my intention. I'm only considering it, but that's not what I was going for. I don't think I'd ever gift someone anonymously if I think they'd feel guilty about it or anything like that. My friends have yet to do anything like that, so. If you're saying in general, then idk since that's kind of different.
I've been thinking of something similar recently. Something more like a clothing exchange. For every item of clothing you donate, you can pick up one that someone else donated. I'm not sure how popular it would be. I was mostly trying to come up with an interesting way to use retired items, since I like finding retired clothing items I don't have/wasn't aware of, and having them crop up in the DC occasionally is the only way I can do that without trawling through lists of old items, which isn't very fun.
!?!?! Omg a clothing exchange would be really interesting! I think it's a nifty way to use retired clothing; also, I feel ya on lists of old items... I tend to usually skip them when I'm going through lists and the like because they can be a big pain.
