Some of you may remember me posting about getting a new Mac and how my dad told me he'd help me pay for it. His exact words were "We'll help you make the payments." He did not qualify that with 'if you're low on money that month' or 'maybe we can help' or anything like that. It was 100% "We'll help you make the payments." But now he's saying he didn't say anything like that, that he's not going to help me pay for it, and "Why should I help when all you do is buy clothes and crap all the time?!" Excuse me? I can't go to work naked, dear father. I have a job where I have to wear nice clothing. I can't just show up in something worn and crappy. So yes, I've been buying a few things here and there - a couple of new blouses, a new dress, a pair of dress pants. I only buy things when they're on sale. I don't go overboard. He knows this. But he just likes to be an ass. I love him, but sometimes he just tests my not-killing-people ability. It's just so frustrating. Because while I can afford to pay the computer bill every month, I am already strapped as it is and this will just finish me off. No going out with friends, no anything extra at all, whatsoever. I am so pissed. When someone, especially a family member who supposedly loves you, gives you their word that they'll do something, they should follow through. Without their word, someone isn't worth much. Ugh. Sorry, I just had to rant. I'm going to crawl under my desk and cry now.
Man, Macs are expensive, too.
Well, as long as you can afford the payments, it's worth giving up extra luxuries? Sometimes you just have to make sacrifices to get what you want in life. It sucks that your dad "forgot" what he said, but if you show him you are responsible for the payments anyway, maybe he will help in a couple months anyway.
Peharps maybe you'll know next time to pick what you can truly afford :c ?
Why a Mac? One of my friends has a Mac and the chargers are utter crap. She bought a brand new charger from Apple at the beginning of the summer and she had to buy up a new one again this past week because the wiring was shot.
Still, I'm sorry. Maybe a normal laptop is the better way to go or are you just... not a Windows fan?

Man, that sounds like my dad, except he would never, ever help us pay for things or buy us things.
Yeah, I doubt it. He's an asshat about money. eyeroll And he's always harping about how important one's word is.
No, I knew I could afford it even without his help, but it would have been nice to have his help, since he did promise it and all.
It's a desktop actually, so no charger. And no, I'm not really a Windows/PC fan, lol.
sarcastic high-five for asshat dads
Geeze, those are even more expensive than the laptops...

- meanwhile my dad just paid $6K to his ..... girl friend ? who lives in fucking Chicago and has public transit and I'm trying to make sure I can get through the rest of my life........ yea. and my mom always brings up that I owe her $250 for stuff......
fucking cute.
collecting Aren't parents just grand? Ugh.
My best friend's dad is now 'friends' with a girl her brother was dating who he broke up with because she was a crazy clingy bitch and now her dad told her he doesn't want to see her because 'he can be friends with who he wants'. Wtf.
Yes, they sure are, lol. But in my mind, so worth it. Soooo much less worry (pretty much none) about viruses, everything works like it should, it's so nice. I promised myself that when I saved up enough to put a few hundred down on one, that I was getting a Mac and nothing else. Kept my promise and super happy with it, even if I do have to pay the whole thing.
parents are complicated aren't they. i once had an intense stomach pain, so i ask my parents to take to the clinic. so we drove around for awhile looking for one, but none has open due to morning. when we finally found one that about to open, they refuse to go there because they don't want to wait. instead they just drive to the market to buy some freaking chicken. i had to suffer all day. thank god i lived. i learned an important lesson that day, i can only depend on myself.
i never own a mac but i heard that the thing about virus is not accurate. they may not have annoying virus like windows, but so does windows. the annoying viruses stop being a problem for years now. bad people are more focusing on other malware like spyware and adware, for making money purposes. and the thing about them is they are really subtle and small enough for normal people to notice. but as long as you are careful every time, you got nothing to worry.
you probably could get a seriously super powerful custom pc with that money though, and they usually install for free.
That's the kind of crap my parents pulled with my cell phone. After they started trying to charge me every month for 3x the price of my phone's plan's cost, I quit and got my own plan as well as a new BlackBerry (yes, BlackBerry is still around) and I've never been happier with my cell phone afterwards.
What I don't understand is why a Mac... They're hugely more expensive for the same type of hardware you get in a self-built or a standard Windows PC. If you self-build you can really save a lot of money and pick the components, and it's what I do. I build mine for the same cost I would have had to put into the 2.7GHz Core i5 with Iris Pro Graphics... I have 2x the memory, a 3.5GHz Core i5 processor, and an R9 290x GPU with 4GBs of GDDR5.
As a PC Gamer, who self-builds, you're still going to end up paying for that license, it's just an OEM license so the cost is far less. Plus the volume at which OEMs buy these licenses, it dwindles the cost to around $40 a piece, so while close, it's not free.
Silence is golden... Duct tape is silver.
Thats exactly what my parents did, except with my braces (and yes, my parents did make me pay for my own braces). "Yes of course we'll pay half!".... Which translated to we'll pay half of a month payment a couple times. And of course, they never directly told me this. So I found out after I already had the damn braces on.
However, I would recommend still getting a Mac. I've had mine for a while now, and I still love it. I can't handle any other OS. But tbh I don't really do anything on it except school related stuff, and social media so I'm not the best critic.
i should put better wording on what i meant. haha. i meant hardware installation, because i don't know how to put everything from scratch. and yes, the os license is pretty cheap. so no more pirate for me :)
i had the same experience with the phone! they want me to be under family plan and try to charge me for that. i don't even get to see the bill. so i get my own plan, with internet and far cheaper.
trust no one. hahahaha.
