I don't understand the point.

It's kind of like your pet having a room and decorating it with stuff that's important to them or shows off their personality. It's a great feature if you're into the character building aspect of this site, but otherwise it doesn't do much. I've heard of some people using it to collect items that don't have an official collection though, like bird items or gemstones. It's basically extra storage that people can look at and admire.
