I'm wanting to start a vlog on my weight loss journey. I was thinking Recovering Fattie for the name but is that too offensive? I love it because i feel i am, that my weight loss journey will never end, that even at my ideal weight i will be dealing with the issues and problems i have that made me obese just like an addict. I've lost 20kg to date and have about 30 more before my doctor will label me in a healthy weight range.

Honestly, it shouldn't matter what anyone else thinks of your name. If it's offensive to some, so be it. But if it legitimately describes the journey that you want to explore, do so. More power to you! Heck, everything offends at least someone. But maybe that could be your first video: explaining the meaning of your name, why it's relevant, and what it truly means to you.

I agree with BlueDiamond - plus with vlogs you can always make a vlog about the name, and why you chose it - people (myself included) love videos like that, about why the name was chosen and why you decided to make the channel.

Also, congratulations on your weight loss so far! It is a hard journey (from one food addict to another), but it is so work it in the end!

As a 270lb person, I love referring to myself as a fattie. I think it's a cute term, personally. I wouldn't see a problem with it.

I don't think 'fattie' is a weight I think it's sorta a character trait like being a 'foodie'. If you're a fattie on the inside it means you like to eat food that would make you fat. Like sweets or just pigging out. Anywho- I called my bf 'fattie' as a cute nickname and he got really upset because he had been over weight growing up. I think it's offensiveness depends entirely on the person...depends on who you want to please. If you are concerned other people won't like it, I'd say some people won't.

I was never super heavy, but even now when I'm 8 pounds from a healthy BMI, I still don't like these self-deprecating terms like "fattie." I don't care if it's a former large person, or a person who's overweight currently, the self-deprecating terms degrade anyone fitting the description. You're free to do what you like, but yes it's offensive to some people and that name would turn me off clicking on a link with that in the title.

It's not as simple as saying anyone who dislikes the name is just easily offended so screw them and what they think. The term fattie may hold a different meaning to you, but generally speaking it is used as an insult towards anyone who is overweight.

I would have to agree with that it is a self-deprecating term. It's a defence mechanism there to stop someone else using it against you. If you've lost the weight and you're feeling good about yourself, it doesn't really make sense to then use a derogatory term to describe yourself.

You just have to consider who you are trying to reach with your vlog, and how would they feel about it. If you just want to vlog to watch yourself as a reminder or something then you should just pick whatever you want.
