I'm trying to move to a new city (NYC) in just over 2 weeks and I STILL haven't managed to find a place to stay. Why does it seem to be so hard to find a roommate who has an affordable room available? Would it be easier to just get a 2+ bedroom place and then advertise for a roommate(s)?
Does anyone have any advice? Is anyone else in the same situation?

How exciting and scary at the same time to move to NYC. I haven't had roommates for quite some time, but I always preferred having the place in my name along with the utilities and spliting the costs with the roomy. There is some risk in that they can just not pay you and you are totally liable for the whole bill, but the bills are in your name and they can't just shut them off on you. Just make sure that you have enough money to be able to pay for the whole rent and utilities in case the roomy decides to bail on you. If you can afford a place yourself, that would be the best. Good luck to you.
what an exciting time for you hun. I would be freaking out. Always wanted to visit NYC.
Your post was right along my own train of thought. I'd prefer to afford a place on my own, but it's not going to be possible at first. But I'd rather have the lease in my name too.
Thank you! I'm moving on my own, but it's only a 3 hour bus trip from my family and I was further away for college.
It's definitely exciting, but yeah, freaking out is absolutely right under the surface of excitement.
