Yup. I am in need of a Sherlock Holmes coat. I'm wondering if anyone here has bought one before and where they'd recommend I buy one. I've found several on Ebay and Amazon but I'm just really not sure. They all seem to be selling from China and that's just a really expensive coat if I get it wrong. xD Any advice would be appreciated! Thanks!

@ Ringo That sounds awesome! I've never bought a coat like that before so I don't have much advice on where to buy it from. If you do buy from Amazon, often times they'll send you another size if it doesn't fit, so maybe make sure the company you're buying from has that option. Also, I find that the reviews help me to determine the quality of an item and whether it runs small or large. Good luck! ^^

Edit: You can also try looking at thrift stores! They have lots of (inexpensive!) unique items.

I've never bought one myself, but if you're looking for a modern-day Sherlock coat (not the original checked versions) have you looked at Sherlockology (link)? They have quite a detailed description of the coat(s) used (and most of the other clothing items as well), which might help you narrow down your search a bit?

I had a quick look at the UK Amazon, and some of the reviews there are really poor for the coats, so I agree with that thrift stores might be a good start - at least then you can check the sizing and everything, without needing to splash out too much cash! ;)

- Thanks! Yup. It's the "modern" one. I'm really thinking that what you and said is the way to go. There are lots of thrift stores around here. I may just have to get out the red thread and do some stitching around the button holes to make it more "authentic" looking. ;) It's for my daughter btw and she's pretty busty so buying her a men's coat was just reeeaaaaly making me nervous and having to alter clothing is not something I wanted to do. :P

Depending on how accurate you want it to be to the Sherlock coat, you could look for something like this (although it doesn't specify the fabric on the site, and the pockets are different), which might work better for the fit than a bloke's coat?

- At least these kinds of coats are in season now at the stores. We tried looking back in June and of course even the thrift stores had their coat stock put away. :C I did find an authentic dark grey deerstalker (still need to order it though) that's a decent price and the scarf. Those were easy. :P She already has a dark blue button up shirt and just needs some new black slacks. I have a month to find an acceptable coat for the little fangirl. ;)

yeah, that's never helpful when they still insist on really summery stuff in the shops, and you're after a coat!
