Hey everyone! I'm a fairly new user, and completely new to the battle forum. The friend of mine who introduced me to Subeta made sure I immediately began getting into battling and it's been super fun and easily my favorite part of the site! But I've been feeling a little lost with battling recently, and was hoping to get a little bit of advice from some of y'all. My battling pet is doing pretty well; I train all of her stats fairly evenly, and she's almost at 80 for every stat (besides level, obviously). I've gotten to a point where all of the easy enemies have been easy enough to beat since she was at 50s in stats, but higher-tier enemies are just about impossible. Is there anything I should be doing? I don't autotrain (can't afford the CSC, lol), and I haven't been doing battle quests very much. Would doing more of those be useful at all? Or should I just stick with training the way I have been until I hit the next tier?
Any advice for this and for what I should be doing once I hit tier 2 would be extremely helpful!
All you can really do is keep training. I strongly advise you to do battle quests. even if you can't do many, that extra exp adds up quickly. it should get you a few extra stats every day. there's no reason to not do battle quests.
tier 2 has some upgrades, you'll be able to take on more challengers but that's mostly because of your higher stats. You should try to read as much as you can to your pet, gaining int is important because it allows for you to get more AP, which means you can equip more scrolls.
Okay great! Battle quests and reading to Pumice are the things I really hadn't been doing much. I'll try to focus more on those. Are there any scrolls in particular you'd recommend I focus on getting?
for lower tier battling is probably the best 3 all defense, 5% heal
it requires 7AP to equip.
Wormwood (5)
Baby Breath (8)
Cinnamon Incense (5)
Scarab of Scholars (5)
Scarab of the Pharaohs (4)
Moonstone (8)
Wolf Tooth (1)
Holy Water (1)
those are the ingredients, found here if you cannot see that, it's because your int isn't high enough. I can make it for you though if you provide the ingredients =)
Excellent! I shouldn't have too much more intelligence to go before I'm able to make it, but thank you for the offer! And thank you very much for the advice c:
you need 20 AP (320 intelligence) to be able to see that scroll in the shrine I believe =)
The DD is OK, but not much of a healer when you're starting out IMO. I always liked the that heals a solid 15hp every turn.
I don't know if the DD's defense really does anything when your defense is that low
(Because text affects the width of your signature, we suggest testing with all text removed to be sure your width is correct.)
if you block 1 of their icons, don't you receive no damage from that? defense doesn't really play any role in that. a lot of the lower tier opponents don't do more than a couple icons each so the defense really kills a lot of their attacks. if defense doesn't work like that, I need to take a look how that really works. nevermind, I'm wrong
pretty sure the logic is
Your defense multiplier * # icon defended vs challenger strength multiplier* # icon attack
so if your multiplier is low it's not very useful. Extreme case but if you have 0 def, using a void scroll blocks nothing.
hm interesting, I see that's how it's set up in the in-depth guide. never knew it worked like that.
in that case, champion may be more useful until tier 3 or so when the defense is high enough to balance out the lack of heal?
why would we even need defense otherwise, if it was all icons vs icons
(Because text affects the width of your signature, we suggest testing with all text removed to be sure your width is correct.)
defense would mitigate the damage you receive, even if you don't block anything. Enemy stats would probably need readjusted though. defense is minimally important at lower tiers then, since there aren't too many things that block besides the scroll, most weapons are either offensive or defensive, the "dual duties" aren't very good for awhile.
To me, today, it seems there isn't a lot of things that matter when you're starting out, but you need the stats for later on anyway
But I remember starting out and feeling like the game was very strategic. However, that was before tiers, so I had access to all kinds of weapons that would do 20-40 icons and be happy with that. Fights would also be less about the multi use healers we have now, we'd only have OPB healers until much farther in the game

true, at the beginning only str and hp really matter, defense gets more important when you start getting into some of the better weapons that attack and block since shields aren't used often, and speed is only useful in longer battles against the hardest opponents (if you even believe it's useful for that)
idk, I feel if defense were a mitigation of the damage you receive on every turn, it would be more consistently useful.
with tiers, you're kinda forced to use crumby weapons that only attack or only defend for quite awhile. even if you have access to something that attacks and defends, it defends like 5 icons.
