Though, also mainly character discussion. I don't role play on site personally, and though I have tried other mediums those have not quiet worked for me. However, I do have a character of which I am tossing into the fray of critiques. Which I hope won't be too scathing and perhaps more on the helpful side.
As for what I am looking for, and target character is: Kousa (I made a pet profile for him, using a pet I adopted that was kindly made into a Glade Ghostly by Pastel. Though, eventually Kimo's name will be changed).
~Ideas on proper expansion of back story. ~Format ideas for personality (which I hope to have conveyed in his story, but If feel the need to write something specifically to that.)
And ending on that list (it'll be expanded soon), the other part of this forum is for general chats about characters, favorite character developments, and well anything to do with any form of Role Play (keeping things appropriate of course x3 ). Below are know people who seemed interested in participating in this discussion. If any of you want to add a character to the list, then I won't mind adding them.

Howdy do. Um... :s

Haha, hey Wolf. You don't have to be nervous! ^^

I have several ideas. One is a Victorian apocalypse where the gentry use spellbooks to summon monsters. What do you think?

Well, I would need to know more, but this peek into the idea has me intrigued. (Also are you subscribed to the thread?)

I quite like his backstory. :)
To expand it, I would probably slow down the bonds between the man and Kousa, meaning that you take more time to explore the bonding process between the two of them. Alternatively (or additionally), perhaps expand into the relationship between the man's wife and Kousa. Does she continue to leave Kousa offerings like her husband did? Or does she stop, leaving Kousa to mourn the loss of his friend?
Additionally, I would also expand on his personality a bit. Right now, he seems really defensive and honestly kinda grumpy, not particularly caring about people and just wanting to leave him and his tree alone. Past that, he actually kinda digs this one guy simply because he just shows up and talks to his tree every day. He could use a bit more depth, I think, and he'll be just fine. :)

Well I got the idea from a video game Devil Survivor. people use cellphones to summon and buy contracts with demons and survive an apocalypse. I subbed cell for grimiores. My idea is a mysterious group has sent an army of monsters and steam powered automatons to wreak the country to a cinder. To defend against this several nobles obtain the power to summon demons and destroy them. But the thing is they can summon them but have no obligation to be nice.

Hmn. Unfortunately, she doesn't return. In the end, all she was doing was carrying out her husband's last wish. She herself doesn't really believe that Kousa is there in the way her husband had. Hmn, and I've started to notice mistakes in my writing... I need to fix that.
As for the time line. Hmn, I can see how it does look a bit rushed. Though, when I wrote it, I felt that the first three (mentioned) years of Kousa not even talking to him was a long time already.
Hmn. I think, I can expand more on the time they've spent together. Perhaps going into about... Uhm. 15 years? I think that'd be adequate, then generalize the rest since Kousa and this Man were friends for the rest of his life up until the old guy died... Shoot, now I need to actually name him.
Hmn. Though, I think I will need to toss around some ideas for major events... Something that would strengthen their friendship. Though, not too over the top.
Some ideas that come to mind, would be helping Kousa with some sort of infestation, or maybe a flood had caused some damages to the ground near or around his tree. I would go into maybe help from other youkai or demons, but I never intended the man to have any deeply rooted spiritual power. Besides being able to see spirits/ghosts.
I also had an idea, that I haven't started yet, where Kousa had been a person at one point in his life. Since a lot of Youkai/spirits were at one point a person in life. But that also means, I'd have to come up with some sort of backstory and him being murdered for some reason... Hmn.
Ah I see. I've never seen or heard of this "Devil Survivor", and I guess all you're doing is transitioning this story to fit in another genre. But... If this is going to take place in the US (I think you mentioned this in the SB), I don't think "Nobles" is going to fit well. Because the US doesn't give recognition to Nobles, not unless they're visiting from another country. So unless these nobles are rich people or corporate owners... OR change the location of this story?
Uhm. Well where would this take place exactly? In a surreal real world place or a fantasy place?

That sounds like a good idea. You don't have to name the man, though. Simply being The Man or The Old Man is enough, I think. Kinda gives off a Giving Tree type vibe if you do (even if the man is giving the tree something in this case, rather than the other way around.)
The infestation sounds like a good idea, same with the flood, but I'd keep it to the Man, the Wife, and Kousa, personally. The simplicity suits the story, I think.
Also, I wouldn't go into the last idea for the pet profile. I mean, you can if you want, but what you already have works as a full story without having to get into how Kousa came to be this tree spirit.

Yea, probably not for the pet profile. I do, on the other hand, have other profiles that the idea can be added to.
Hmn, I've ruled out infestation. Because, it'd be very difficult if I went with a natural source. I'd have to look up what bugs or fungus the tree is susceptible to, and what would be indigenous to Japan in that time period.
And though the flood is an step easier, I'd still have to do some extensive research.
So that leaves the vandalism part to be the easiest. I don't have it mentioned in the story, but Kousa has seasons in which his power goes through a cycle. Winter is his weakest point, with spring being the season where he regathers his energy back, Summer is the highest peak, and autumn being the beginning of his decline. Winter, he's almost nearly dormant, but he does emerge when the life his tree (and by extension himself) is threatened to a point that can't be repaired in the spring.

That would certainly work. :0
And the vandalism could easily be people or perhaps rogue spirits depending on what you felt like doing.

Whoa whoa HOLD IT!!! Your mixing two totally diffrent ideas of mine as same onne

Ahh, rogue spirits is also a good idea! I could do that for one of the years as well.
Ohh one year could be from humans, and another from spirits.
I've been tossing the idea with another friend and she suggested maybe a drunk who ends up stripping some clothes and leaving them in Kousa's branches. I can easily imagine a group of youths partying, ones that are not exactly mindful of shrines. Since this one wouldn't exactly be a main shrine. So there'd be a lot of stuff left behind, maybe even some period accurate paints, and litter. Something the man could clean up since Kousa wouldn't really be able do much. Since his range in mobility is very limited.
:D All this has really been helpful, Madeline. I really appreciate it.
Ah, I had a feeling- but I wasn't too strongly sure of it! Sorry about that.

My US idea is where electricity is kaput finito history and society has utterly collapsed. In the midst of the ruins rises a new society and country. Neo England. Various steampunk junkies and European immigrants create an English society amidst all the ruins of modern technology. Political intrigues, Steampunk secrets hidden within history, and a power betrayal against The United States that has led to it's utter annihilation and rise as a new country to The Crown.
There are a few fiction that have US nobility.

I wasn't talking about fictional US. Fiction doesn't really hold up well against Non-fiction.
Anyway, now that we have the two ideas separated.
Why only Nobles?

Well um... no reason I just like gentry.

Ah! That would work wonderfully. :D
Glad I could help!
This reminds me... I should really get working on either stuff for my necromancer mobster (see HA) or start making characters for a DnD 5e campaign that will likely never see the light of day. lol

I love D&D. I like Eberron setting.

Oh cool. :0
I actually haven't played any of the canon settings yet. ;n; All of my DMs have made custom settings for whatever it was they wanted to do.
