I got him from the pound yesterday and, being a science-loving person, I was excited about the name! But now I have no idea what species and color to make him. Does anyone have any ideas? I appreciate any help!

Well when ever I stain cells in the lab I always have the lysosomes being red, so I would probably go with the color cherry. I would also consider nuclear, but if it was my pet I would have an overlay that has all the green bits are turned red. As for species I would have a Wyllop because its a lab rat! This is a picture I took at the lab. The red is the lysosomes stained, and the blue is the nucleus! :D
