A friend of mine is wanting to join and I know she's in a wheel chair due to severe EDS, she also has a port, and g-tube due to gastroparesis. I think it would be super nice to have wheelchairs, canes, hearing aids, cochlears, ports/PICCS, NG tubes, G tubes, ostomies, etc.
I have an NG Tube and ileostomy due to severe crohns and I also have to use a cane and/or wheelchair depending on the day due to JRA. I think it would look really great on the subeta community to be disabled inclusive on avatars or have accessories or items in treasury for things like that.
Something along the wheelchair vein was suggested about a year ago - nothing ever came of it, though. I think wheelchairs would be great. However, when it comes down to the reality of the wearables, think of it like those sofa chair wearables (the name eludes me and it's WICKED hard to do wardrobe in a second tab on my iPad, so I'll try to find it and edit it in) - for the legs to be in a different shape, the pants would be standard with the wheelchair item. This could make layering difficult, as I imagine osteomy bags and tubes would.
My real question, in regards to the cochlear implant, is this: every student I've ever had with a cochlear implant had it back behind their ear, towards the back of their head, an area that a HA form does not currently show. Is there alternate placement of a cochlear implant that you are suggesting, that would actually show on the HA?
I'm not unsupportive of the idea of this all in general, but the implementation kind of boggles my mind.
True, the Cochlear might be hard to do, but hearing aids would be possible. And I also see the issue with layering and whatnot but I still think it would be great. The lack of disabled representation in most things is very disheartening. But it's just a thought. :) I understand they can't help everyone but just some things I thought about earlier today and thought I might find some other disabled folks to throw in their opinions and what not :)
hey there, I'm disabled because of EDS! say hi from a fellow bendy for me c:
I was a year ago and I still am really eager for more assistive devices and medical wearables eg. wheelchairs, powerchairs, canes, braces, prosthetics, NG tubes & PICC lines, etc, and I think I remember saying they were hoping to get some items drawn up and released - but I'm not sure what happened with that :x I know we're not a huge subset of users (though there's quite a few of us around!) but it'd really mean so much to me to have some of these items!
- We still do plan to - I'd actually like to release some kind of specialised shop for this kind of thing so there's less of a struggle of 'where to put this?'
A pharmacy type shop is what I was thinking. There's plenty of medical things on site right now in places like Home Appliances that could be moved there. Maybe it could go in the Lower East Side of Centropolis. I'm going to try and work it into one of the themed months some time, so that we have some dedicated time for a large number of things, instead of just one set of wheelchairs and bob's your uncle.
It's great to meet other people with disabilities :)
The idea of a pharmacy or even putting stuff in the Home Appliances would be cool. I'm gonna have to check out home appliances now :) Thank you very much.
i really have to +1 this idea and the other disability and medical ideas on this thread under "Stuff I can't place" in the spoiler topic.
I feel it's important enough, if it can't get pushed we form a petition of some sort.
(in case you didn't see this thread)
Read that again.
Go Bills!
ha! I was actually thinking of this thread, but was on my phone and couldn't go looking or it! Thank you for linking to it!
What about a shop called Mobility Equipment or The Mobility and Medical Shop. But I like the pharmacy idea too We have these here and they stock mobility equipment for all disabilities, cast covers for the shower, and all sorts of things that help the disabled people.
I have a neuromuscular disability and use a powerchair. It be neat to see what items can be done for the shop and HA's
Thank you [Kiss=smilesnz] [Dance=smilesnz] [Flower=smilesnz]
- I liked the idea of a pharmacy because we can literally move ALL medical supplies there! I like that name though - The Mobility and Medical Center, maybe.
Just throwing out a random idea that may or may not be annoying--how about instead of the typical restocking shop (or maybe in addition to a restocking area), you have to wait (30mins-a few hours) for prescription-type orders to be filled? Waiting on prescription meds is so fun irl, I know ;p but it's something different from the standard shop which Subeta seems to be moving away from lately.
I'd also like to add in the suggestion of service animals. I have a service dog irl and id really love to see that represented. My HA feels so naked without one. Theres only one "guide dog" jacket ive seen, but it doesn't show up on the actual dog. I'd be interested to see different types of dogs wearing different types of vests (mobility, guide, psychiatric, medical alert, etc.) It would also be neat to have a miniature horse, since those are also used as a mobility aid.
something like this was briefly mentioned in the pets thread but I think it would have a much better home here since service animals are 100% not pets and its really, really important to those of us with them that we make that distinction
Yes that needs to be added as well. A friend of mine has one and he goes every single place with her always, she'd be awkward on here without one as well.
Read that again.
Go Bills!
I'd be very much pleased with the items mentioned in this thread! New medical devices and stuff are always welcome.
This is a great idea! I think it would be a lovely way of supporting a lot of people using the site.
I would personally love to see insulin pumps. After all, I'm attached to one 24/7, it would be cool if my avatar could have one as well ^^ And even if they weren't wearable, I'd like to see other devices used in the treatment of Type 1 Diabetes in item form (insulin pens, glucometers, etc). I hardly ever see positive representation for T1D so it would be wonderful to see it here ^^
Im totally hoping for more medical/hospital stuff! Especially now that the new shop is up.
Some I would love are: Gowns Different hospital beds Medicine bottles/vials..etc (like a empty prescription bottle, or vials of morphine..etc) Casts/Braces (full leg casts, neck braces, Leg boots) Iv units, some wearable would be super cool. (Blood, IV fluids, etc) Nose cast, eye patches, more wraps. Epinephrine/epi pens Crash kids/carts Many medical gloves/smocks/masks All the stitches (because I love em) Scars, keloids, bruises from post surgery Intubation kits, breathing apparatuses Machines like x ray, mri, ct, ultrasound Laproscopic devices Cancer related treatment Electric wheelchairs Walkers Physical therapy devices and objects Surgery tools (scalpel, rib spreader, clamps, different size sutures and needles, sponges, towels, scissors, forceps, tweezers...etc)
So many moreee, Ill make a huge list at some point. But Ive always hoped to have more medical stuff on sub.
I do hope you guys make it have a wait time like a real pharamcy -dies- that note on the news you had about it made me squee
I support all the additional suggestions as well! The only problem I can really see with making this a shop with wait times, though, is how it hard it could potentially make questing, unless these are/are made to be a rarity that doesn't get asked for. I can't really see stocking up on multiples of an entire shop in anticipation for quest needs.
As far as I'm aware, r105 is not currently asked for by any of the questgivers. :)
It was something we thought about doing but didn't really work out in the end SRY maybe we can add a special aspect like that to it later for particular items C:
maybe books or something would be a good way to include the autism spectrum into this new shop. I always like more easily obtained books and I am on the spectrum.
Oh I like that. Like a self help section. Could have books about many things. Autism, Insomnia, Depression, Bipolar, Anxiety, Ocd...etc. Itd be for sure cool to see a part dedicated to the issues that arent seen on the outside, especially as I suffer from more of those than the regular ailments.
Itd also be awesome for that section, maybe pamphlets like you find at the doc. Like the one mine gave me on endometriosis that had this lady on the front with the most depressed face ever and a hand on her forehead xD I always find them so funny in a weird way.
-cries-
Well maybe if you guys make some awesome tab for prescriptions that would have meds/inhalers/diabetes stuff it could go for that. As I guess buying crutches ya dont have to wait a day even at a pharmacy haha.
