Curing, Conundrums, and Concerts AKA Let's Rock!

It's been a quiet day in the Goose. Pugsy is still muttering and repairing the vehicles damaged in the forest fight, and the rest of the Squirrel and Crystania united crew has managed to get everyone patched up.

Still, you desperately need this day of rest. Ertrude has completely exhausted herself proving she's a better healer than she's given herself credit for being, and those who are convalescing (with only a small loss of whatever those point things might be) are very grateful for her care.

Tanaka has borrowed a couple of old time films from a different realm and talked Ertrude down into the basement for something known as a "double-feature," so a number of you are happily watching with them and munching Thorson's large quantities of "lab-burner corn," which has the best butter flavor in Bordertown.

Larianne, still determinded to "hold her own," as she puts it, has gone off on a picnic in the nearby grove with a clearly delighted Kelian, who traded "rock festival guard duty" with Tanaka to take this afternoon off. Lappy has chosen to remain behind in favor of the disc holos, and is now engrossed in a RinTinTin intermission fill-in.

Yes, it's a pleasant, simple day free of almost everything, except for a strange sort of problem left for all of you by Tony and Jedro, who went to interview the owner of the rock festival main stage. They couldn't get much out of him, but they recorded the interview. They can't make heads or tales of it, but they sure hope you can figure in out for them before you head in there.

Here's what they recorded:

Who's Faerocking Where?

Look, I can&;t go talking to you about the participants right now. There&;s way too much setting up to be done before tomorrow night. It took us 5 months to get all these guys set up. Their managers are nightmares. Really demanding! Not to mention that we had to figure out the fee for each one according to their fan bases! It might be the guy scheduled in the middle; he sure looks like an elf, and he thinks he&;s a prince, but you figure out which one it is! Just put tomorrow night&;s performers in order and decide which lead singer might be this Caniel dude.

Here, this is what I know: take notes!

Mauve and the Lavenders aren&;t managed by Esmeralda.

The gig we booked in July got 30 million sp.

Pale Lightning and the Stormboys wasn&;t booked in June.

We booked Rembrandt and the Artists two months before Calvin Blackmoon&;s band.

Of the 40 million sp job and the band we booked in May, one was Delish and the Fashionistas and the other was managed by Jaxon Skelly.

Neither the 40 million sp gig nor the band booked in August is managed by Blonde Emma.

Jaxon Skelly&;s band was booked 3 months before the 38 million sp gig.

Neither the band booked in September nor guys booked in August is Rosemary and the Birdbrains.

Rembrandt and the Artists was booked 1 month before the 50 million sp gig.

Mauve and the Lavenders weren&;t booked in June.

Sebastian Phoenix manages one of these groups, but I don&;t remember if he was booked for 25 million sp or not---maybe so; maybe not. Anyway, that&;s all the info I have.

And don&;t bother me again! I&;m busy!
In addition, Miss Miranda has a shelf of other-world disc holos which are out of order from being knocked over during a dark lightning storm, so, before you go she would like you to put them back in order. OOC: These are all classic B&W films. Some were later colorized and others remade with different casts and in color. You only need to list the titles, but beaware that some are very tough!

Those Dangs Disc-holos!

You really did want a bit more of peace and quiet before your whole party has to dress up in appropriate gear to attend the Bordertown Faerock Festival in proper style, but it looks as if you're going to be busy, busy, busy!

(OOC: This is a double puzzle and HA challenge. Solve both of the puzzles (only the second in Traveler mode) AND dress up in your best version of Faerock fan attire. Yes, this can get wild, and all forms of fantasy modes work here. PLEASE submit through your team captains, but do NOT hook them together into one shared image! You have no idea how much extra work that makes, especially if one of you places in the top ten. Because of the holiday weekend for the US, you ALL get until July 5 at 11:59 Subeta time. Good luck!)

Their cuts, lumps, bumps and bruises taken care of, the Fallen Angels were eternally grateful for Ertrude. They were also eternally grateful for a chance to catch their breath. With the intoxicating smell of lab-burner corn filtering up from the basement, paying attention to the scrap of paper with Tony and Jedro's interview notes was a little difficult, even for Laurie, who glanced at their notes while absent-mindedly chewing on her trusty No.2. Handing the note over to Atrueheart she smiled. "We should have plenty of time to sort this out along with Ms. Mirandas disc holos before it's time to go to the concert. Let's go get some of that delicious smelling lab corn and enjoy the movie, what do you say?"

catnip thieves Faerocking The Catnip Thieves desperately needed to lick their wounds, especially Reyna who was hit by a poisonous fireball and Celeste who spent a lot of her sorcerous energy to protect the ship. It was a rough fight, but everyone came out unscathed, more or less. “How are you doing, Reyna?” Gavin checked up on the blonde ranger. “Better, thanks.” She grimaced as she cracked her neck. “I still have a hellish headache, but I’ll be right as sun by tomorrow for sure.” The alchemist gave a pitying wince. “An unfortunate side effect of the poison. Strychnine derivatives are nasty, indeed. Would you like some painkillers?” Reyna gave a fatigued smile. “Yeah, thanks.” Gavin nodded. “No need to thank me. I’m glad you’re better.” He silently left to grab the medicine. “How’re you holding up, Celeste?” Reyna asked the mage, who was just waking up from much-needed sleep. “Eh. Could be worse.” She grunted noncommittally. “It feels like I’ve been beat up. On the bright side, it was a good workout.” “True. We did great out there.” the blonde responded. “Yeah.” Celeste closed her eyes. Just then, the door lightly creaked open, rousing Celeste from whatever remaining chance at sleep she had. She grumbled. “Sorry…Hope I didn’t wake anybody up!” Lizzy squeaked. “Turns out we still can’t use the kitchen. Pugnose is still patching up in there.” Through the open door drifted sounds of a loud argument. Reyna squinted. “What’s going on?” Lizzy rolled her eyes. “Probably Dana and Pugnose, again. They’ve been arguing practically nonstop. Something about the honor of mechanics.” The ruckus continued. Lizzy sighed. “I should probably go stop them before they do something stupid. Anyway, Ertrude made some special coffee. It’s supposed to make you recover faster. Hope you feel better soon!” With that, the polymath slowly slid the door shut and left. Gavin reappeared shortly with a few pills and two bottles of water. “Here, Reyna.” He passed a bottle and some pills to the said ranger. “I have brought some for you too, Celeste.” He said, tossing the remaining pills and bottle to the mage. “Thanks.” The girls said in unison. After taking the pills, Celeste brought Gavin up to speed: “Lizzy popped by earlier. She said Ertrude made some kind of special recovery coffee.” “Let us go, in that case.” The horned boy responded. “Yes, let’s.” Reyna agreed.

"Come up, folks! Nancy kindly let me use her stove to brew some coffee." As Ertrude spoke, the scent of lilac drifted out from the room. Reyna inhaled. The flowery-sweet smell reminded her of the syringa blossoms that bloom annually in her hometown of Lilac Valley. She could almost see it--the entire valley blanketed in a thick carpet of delicate, periwinkle flowers. She could almost reach out and grab a few to make a flower crown. She let her eyes slide shut… “She’s the best. Have a seat and try it. I swear it's delicious!” Ertrude said, shaking Reyna out of her reverie. With sparkling eyes, the healer served seven cups. Immediately, Reyna and Celeste plunked themselves down at the table and downed the coffee. Their eyes lit up in accord. “That hits the spot! Reminds me of home, too.” Reyna exclaimed. “I’m already feeling a bit better, and I didn’t even take the painkillers yet.” “Reminds you of home?” Celeste was confused. “Yeah…I mean, the coffee smells like syringa blossoms. We used to pick them every spring back at home, and put them in our tea and bake them into cookies and stuff. They have healing properties, or so the elders say.” Reyna cheerfully shared. “Ertrude, what flowers did you add to the coffee?” “Hm? Oh, I added a lot of dried lavender flowers. Lavender refreshes and fights infection.” Ertrude smiled. “Oh…I see…” Reyna couldn’t help but be a bit disappointed. Dana sensed that something was wrong. “You okay there?” The blonde ranger suddenly sat up a little straighter and threw Dana what was supposed to be a comforting smile. “Yeah, I’m fine. Just get a bit homesick sometimes.” “I bet.” The vagabond paused. “You know, when this all blows over, maybe you could take me there?” She grinned and elbowed Reyna playfully. “Lilac Valley sounds beautiful. I’d really like to see it.” “Yeah, definitely! You really have to meet my parents. I think they’d be happy to meet someone like you.” The ranger enthused. As the connotation of what she said slowly settled in, she flushed a bright red. “Omigawsh! I-I didn’t mean it like that! ImeanI did! Imean--” If Dana were embarrassed by what Reyna said, all traces of it faded away with her laughter. “It’s okay. I’d be glad to meet your folks.” Celeste couldn’t help but sigh contentedly and pet Scraps. “Ah, young love.” Reyna turned around so fast she almost got whiplash. “W-what did you say?” “Who, me? Don’t mind me.” The mage quickly pulled a straight face. Aodh grudgingly sniffed the coffee, and made a face. Dana threw an encouraging glance in his direction. The bard rolled his eyes. “Fine. It can’t be that bad, I guess.” He thought, taking a sip. He was pleasantly surprised. "Oh, this tastes intriguingly oleaginous." Gavin commented, curiously taking another sip of the coffee mix. "Is that an aldehyde concoction I taste?" Reyna shrugged. "Maybe? Dunno. I'm a ranger, not an analytical chemist." "Alas! As long as it tastes good." Gavin praised. Amalia roaringly laughed and smashed her cup onto the table. Lex, her mare, started at the sudden clang. "Another!" Lizzy delicately raised an eyebrow, thinking that the warrior may have been drinking something other than coffee, but let it slide. While Reyna was busy collecting her friends’ empty cups, Ratte sneaked his way off of Lizzy’s head and leapt next to her coffee cup. Wyn, Dana’s pet cat, solved the situation by jumping onto the table and pushing Ratte aside. Three empty cups clattered noisily onto the floor, collateral of Wyn’s plan. The whole Gearwork Goose went pin-drop silent. Aodh couldn’t help but grin at the sight. "Oops!" Lizzy whispered, embarrassed. “I’ll handle the cleanup!” “Wyn!” Dana berated. The cat softly meowed and lowered its head, as if ashamed. “Let me help.” Dana gathered some cups. “Ooh, what in the world happened here?” Ms. Miranda approached the lively breakfast scene. “Mind if I take some?” She asked Ertrude. “Help yourself. The mugs are right to your left.” She smiled. “Thanks, Ertrude.” She quickly poured himself a mug of Ertrude’s coffee and drank to her heart’s content. “Tasty as ever. I was actually wondering if you guys would be able to help me? There was a nasty storm a while back, and it knocked all my disc holos into the wrong order.” Gavin nodded. “I may be of some assistance.” “I know a thing or two about music, maybe I could help.” Aodh piped up. “Thanks, boys. This way.” Ms. Miranda led the way to her disc holos, with Aodh and Gavin in tow. After the remaining members of the Catnip Thieves helped with the dishes and thanked Ertrude, they headed out to find Tanaka for more clues.

"What do you think this is, a wedding-eve party?" Tanaka berated them. The Crystanian was setting up a film feature in the basement and didn't seem too happy about the ruckus. His gaze settled between Dana and Reyna, who were standing close together. The aeronaut's hand was resting on Dana’s arm. As they realized the double entendre of his sentence they both blushed to their ears. Celeste smugly grinned and elbowed Amalia, who only glared in response. Tanaka sighed. "Here. Take this record from Tony and Jedro; make yourself useful." He went right back to work. “I guess that’s our cue to leave. Let’s crack this one!” Dana trumpeted, leading the rest of the crew out. After all that happened, the last thing they wanted to do was to piss off their hosts. Lizzy, Celeste and Dana took a closer look at the interview text while the rest began discussing the upcoming Bordertown Faerock Festival.

"What do you think it'll be like?" Amalia wondered, cleaning her nails with a small dagger. "Uhm…a rock festival…with faeries?" Reyna shrugged. "No idea. It's been ages since I last attended a festival. The last one I was at happened during the winter solstice and the best music there was provided by a man who played a singing bowl. Single-handedly. Did I mention that this man was my father?" Everyone burst into laughter. "Ready!" Lizzy cheerfully announced. “Whew, that took a lot longer than expected.” Celeste winced as she cracked her back. “Getting old now, are we?” Amalia joked. “You know what they say. Age is wisdom.” Celeste winked at her friend. “Are you trying to imply something?” The warrior’s eye twitched. “Guys, not this again.” Dana stepped between them for the upteenth time. “You’re sure the one to speak.” Lizzy muttered. “Have you forgotten about Pugsy?” Dana raised a finger as if to defend herself, but then dropped it. “Well, I’ve got nothing to say to that.” Amalia abruptly cracked a grin, forgetting her previous rage. “Oh damnnn, Lizzy. Laying on the sass like it’s nobody’s business!” “I-I didn’t mean it like that!” Lizzy flushed, embarrassed. The warrior’s grin only widened. “Relax, kid. I was only teasing.” Reyna couldn’t help but giggle. “You know, I’m really glad I ran into you guys in the bar all those weeks ago.” “Yeah…Me too.” Lizzy contently smiled as she pet Ratte. For the first time since her last adventure with her old crew, she felt perfectly at home. “We’re back. What did we miss?” Aodh announced, striding into the room. "Oh, nothing much.” Reyna grinned impishly, glancing at Amalia. “We were just, you know, speculating how Gavin will look with black eyeliner." “Wha-?!” For once, Gavin was at a loss for words. “Yas, girl, yas!” Amalia guffawed, high-fiving Reyna. Celeste rubbed her chin and squinted at Gavin. “You know, that might actually not look too bad.” The said alchemist’s eyes bugged. “W-what in name of the Eridanus Supervoid are you talking about?” He sputtered. “Wait a moment. I think I also have some black contacts you could wear.” Celeste left to find them. In her absence, everyone (except Gavin) cackled loudly. Gavin buried his face in his hands, and wished there was a scientifically possible way of melting through the floor.

Raider's Folly: Let's Rock
Quote by Reaper
I drifted back to consciousness to the smell of scorched metal tickling my nose and the sound of a tiny voice bellowing out about slaying the beast and fighting fair. I ground my teeth and cracked one eye, glad my curtains were drawn. “Tiny man, if you don’t shut the hell up right now, I swear I will force myself out of bed and turn you back into a pile of dirt,” I snarled. The golem turned to glare at me and yelled back, “WE MUST SLAY THE BEAST, IT IS A TRAVESTY OF NATURE AND IT MUST BE DEFEATED!” I groaned and closed my eyes again, hearing a choked noise coming from Spike – his version of a laugh I figured. “That’s it, turning you back to dirt,” I mumbled as I struggled to sit up and open my eyes again, shoulder throbbing from the wound the arrow left behind. As I untangled my legs from my sheets and swung them off the bed, I turned to look again at the golem – he was watching me warily and as soon as I stood he shouted, “NEVER SHALL YOU DEFEAT ME!” before diving behind my curtains and – presumably – out of the window. At some point I’d need to get rid of him, but today was clearly not the day.

I shuffled over to my mirror, fingers rubbing my eyelids and temples. My shoulder was bandaged, right where that damned arrow had lodged. I sighed and lifted the edges, there was a hole but it didn’t look too bad, a little glamour spell and nobody would really notice, as long as I didn’t have to cover it with anything too tight. I thought that would be fine, it’s not like we had anything pressing to do today. Or did we? I was struggling to remember when I saw the ticket I’d stuck in the corner of the mirror. Damn it to hell, we had the concert festival tonight – ah well, at least I knew these things were all about the costuming, I could definitely figure out something that wouldn’t press against the angry hole in my shoulder. I started tossing everything I had with me onto the bed, Spike watching me from the corner of the room. If there was one thing I knew how to do, it was party.

Quote by Paddy
A concert definitely sounded better than all that fighting, and I knew as long as I could keep my paws on the ground, I&;d be likely to enjoy myself. Only trouble was, I hadn&;t brought any clothing that was suitable for a concert - everything was more practical.... Rummaging in my bag I pulled out a plain white vest-top and a black skirt. Grabbing a pair of scissors, I cut some holes in the shirt; I meant it to look like a skull, and it kind of did, as long as you squinted and looked sideways at it. But it still looked more suitable. I chopped most of the length from the skirt, just leaving enough to not show too much fur at the top of my legs, but it didn&;t look quite enough.

I didn&;t wear my piercings all that often, as people&;s reactions to me being a werewolf were usually enough, without having a lip and eyebrow ring on display as well, but a rock concert was an ideal excuse to dig them from my pocket and put them back in. With the shirt, that didn&;t look too terrible, but the footwear was proving a problem. Normally I&;d just wear a pair of work boots, or even go bare-pawed, but I didn&;t want to offend anyone by turning up with nothing on my paws.

It was no good, I didn&;t have time to think of anything else, so I&;d have to give in and ask Reaper for help. I just had to hope that she had forgotten or at least forgiven me after I chewed the heel off her favourite boots on the previous full moon. Standing outside her door, I knocked and took a deep breath as she opened the door.

"Erm, I need some footwear for this concert, but I&;ve not got anything that&;s suitable.... do you think I could possibly borrow a pair of your boots, please?"
She was giving me a funny look, as if she hadn&;t ever seem a werewolf wearing piercings and a home-made skull cut out shirt before.

Quote by Reaper
I&;d just finished pulling myself together and tossing on a robe while I decided on shoes when there was a knock at my door. My eyebrows quirked up in surprise at the wolf on the other side of it, piercings and ripped top was not a look I’d seen on her before, but it definitely suited her. She looked good in a slightly dangerous way. And then she asked me about shoes. SHOES. Like she hadn’t devoured a pair of my favorites. I could feel my mouth thinning and my eyes narrowing, but she looked so hopeless so I sighed and opened the door wider, letting her in. “As long as we can agree that you won’t be eating these too?” She nodded at me solemnly and maybe just a hint embarrassed. My lips twitched into a friendly smirk and I knelt to rummage under my bed before pulling out a pair of spiked ankle boots. “I think these would go well, and also you definitely can’t wear my favorites because I’ll be wearing them,” I grinned at her as I dragged my pair out and started dragging them on, “and also I can see that you spent the night in here with me making sure I was okay…so thank you for that.” I finished off by gesturing at the chair still pulled too close to the bed, and the empty teacup on the floor next to it. I don’t know why she felt like she had to watch over me, but I appreciated it anyhow. I pulled the other boot on and stood, whipping off the robe and grabbing my ticket, laughing at the scandalized noise Paddy made – okay, so maybe I was being generous if I called this an outfit – I think an outfit needed more material, but it was a music festival – the goal was to be outrageous and have a good time. I grinned toothily at the wolf and grabbed her paw, “Come on Wolfenstein, we’re gonna have a blast!” I laughed as she stumbled out the door after me – we managed to make it down the ladder without dying (yay us! that thing is sketchy in heeled boots), and headed off to the concert, trusting that Die and Raven would be there when they got there – I knew how little they both liked social gatherings, so I didn’t doubt they’d put off leaving until they had to, but I had hours of day drinking with other colorfully dressed folks ahead of me, so I honestly wasn’t worried about it. Plus this would be good for Paddy – she needed to get out and shake her tail some.

Quote by Raven
Damn it, I had to get ready for the concert. I was getting tired of playing dress up. I had never been to a concert; how should I know what to wear? I also did not care for crowds—more people meant more possible enemies. Grumpily, I started throwing my clothing out of the closet. “No, no, NO,” I said as I rejected one garment after the other and making a giant mess at the same time. Finally, I was so angry at not knowing what to wear I did not care anymore. If I was going to have to go listen to music that would probably sound like wounded cats trying to mate, I might as well be comfortable. I chose light clothing that was built to protect me from blades, except for the bare midriff that I rather enjoyed showing off now. I also hid a few weapons in my outfit.

Quote by Die
Die came out of the bathroom to the room in complete disarray. He saw how angry Raven was; hell he could feel her ire vibrating around the room. “Hey,” he said grabbing the woman and wrapping his arms around her. “It won’t be so bad. Hell if you want, why don’t you dress me up? That way we will match?” He knew the idea of a large crowd probably bothered her so he hoped dressing him up would at least make her feel more comfortable.

Quote by Raven
Die pulled me into a hug and offered to let me dress him up—which was unexpected. He was more stylish than I was so it was shocking to me that he had agreed. The only thing I could think of was that he was trying to cheer me up. Strangely, the idea did kind of make me feel a little better as I gathered up the remnants of my wardrobe and started looking for things to put on him—my own life-size doll. We were about the same size in clothing though I was slightly taller and more muscular.

Grabbing his spikey sandals, a skirt, some belts and a cape that had wings—I started building his wardrobe. Once he was done dressing, I took his kohl and painted little crosses across his chest—and painted a swirling pattern on my face. Eolus jumped up on Die’s head and started messing his hair up even more than normal. Laughing I said, “Eolus the hair stylist. Actually I quite like the look.”

Quote by Die
He saw himself in the mirror and muttered, “I feel like a damn fairy.” Still Raven’s spirits seemed to have perked up so he was willing to go along with his look. Though he would rather have had his hair look neat the damned demonic rabbit seemed hell-bent on it remaining messy. He smiled and took Raven’s hand. “I promise, we will have a good time tonight. If for no other reason than because you are with me.”

Quote by Raven
“Hey, there’s nothing wrong with fairies. I’ll have you know many realms consider all faes to be fairies,” I said with a playful growl so he knew I took no offense to his little grumpy demeanour. Hell, the grumpiness was so damn cute that I suddenly felt like shoving him to the bed and making out with him. Clearing my throat I said, “Everything seems to be better when you are with me.” Damn sappy comment but it was true. I squeezed his hand and smiled. “I guess we should go then.” We agreed to meet Reaper and Paddy at the venue.

"What the heck is this about a concert?" Lovecraft grumbles. "Ain't nobody got time for concerts!"

"HUSH!" Witchy hisses at her. "Pale Lightning and the Stormboys are performing!!!" Witchy starts fanning herself with her hand "I have had the hots for them boys for AGES!" And then under her breath If I get close enough one of them will be coming home with momma tonight. She smiles over at TerrenaAnimula and puffs on her pipe with a distant gleam in her eye.

Stuffing some cake into his mouth, Fresh looks around at them. "We could use some entertainment," he says between bites. "And I am with Witchy! Pale Lightening is awesome!"

"Don't go fanboying on us," Lovecraft stares at him.

"He isn't the one that possibly got married to Reaper at the Seelie Court," TerrenaAnimula looks at Lovecraft and then backs away a few steps.

Gryffindor having just got back from having to run OoWSA (out of wayward squirrel adventures) for some errands, was feeling a little lost and confused..."I GOT TO DRIVE!" Gryffindor yells out suddenly, then continues in a softer tone, "And none of you were killed by it either." She smiles proudly.

"Speaking of your driving," Fresh says "Next time I pick the music."

"House rules, Freshy. Driver picks the music, shotgun shuts his cake hole." Gryffindor says without missing a beat.

Fresh just stares at her while the others start to laugh.

"LETS GET READY TO ROCK!" Witchy yells in the spirit following Gryffindor's outburst and runs towards a changing room.

TerrenaAnimula, Gryffindor and Lovecraft follow after her while Fresh heads to a different one. Lovecraft calls over, "Remember clothing this time!"

Fresh being the only guy quickly dresses and figures since the girls will take awhile to return, he can eat more cake. So he sits down and pulls out a nice big slice. "I hope this doesn't go right to my hips," he says and laughs to himself while eating it.

Meanwhile over with the girls getting dressed...

"What in the world, do you wear to a Fae Rock Band Concert?" Gryffindor wondered, staring into her pack of clothes.

Terrenaanimula was throwing clothing about like a tornado,"I just can't find a THING to wear!!!"

Witchy walks around modeling what seems to be her 3rd outfit. "I think this one will do," she announces and looks at Lovecraft who hasn't even bother to try anything yet. "You may be the one going naked if you don't hurry your tail up."

"Fine, fine," Lovecraft starts to look thru things trying to find something to fit in at the concert. This really isn't her type of music after all. She had been hoping artists like Fae Sabbath or Faetallica or her favorite Fae Zombie would be performing. BUT she has to admit that if rumors of possible guest appearance of Maroon Fae are true, she will freak out! She wants herself some of the front man, Faedam.

After some time, Silver Legends seems fully dressed and ready to go.

Witchy is so excited bouncing around about the concert. The others are surprised after all the rainbow she consumes she can bounce like that still.

Fresh is trying to wipe the cake from his mouth and hoping to get as close as possible to the stage, trying to hide how fanned out he is about seeing his favorites.

TerrenaAnimula is still fussing about what she is wearing. "I don't think this red hair really works with this." She keeps tugging on it thinking that will fix it.

Gryffindor is happy she happened to have another outfit in her bag that was able to be used.

Lovecraft is tired, but going to see a concert could be good stress relief. She secretly misses Tea_Roll and had hopes that perhaps Gryffindor would be a good replacement.

As they enter the concert, Lovecraft looks out into the crowd, "Is that..." She starts to say as Witchy puts her arm around her and leads her further inside smiling at the direction Lovecraft had been looking.

Fallen Angels Ready to Rock
Fallen Angels Ready to Rock

While gorging themselves on lab-burner corn and enjoying the double-feature Tanaka had so graciously provided the Fallen Angels picked apart the puzzle Tony and Jedro had left for them earlier. Once they figured out which band was most likely the one their wayward prince Caniel was performing with, it was time to get ready for the concert. The six of them decided to meet at Atrueheart's suite after changing and quietly excused themselves, grabbing handfuls of Thorson's delicious popped corn on their way out.

Checking her reflection for the 10th time, Laurie scowled. Finding something she considered suitable to wear to the concert was easy, she was even able to tolerate the odd feeling and her eye's watering from the colored contacts. But getting that blankety-blank wig on right.. Not so much. I give up! This stupid thing has got it out for me she mumbled to herself, only one thing to do.. Speaking out-loud she said "Come on Hope, let's go see if Moriel's busy." Hearing the word's "lets go" her little bear cub grabbed Laurie's hand and toddled toward the door as fast as her little legs could go.

While dropping her beloved cub off in the dire wolf's capable paws, Laurie lamented to Talli about her war of the wig, continuing to whine as the two of them left her room, met up with Webby half way down the hall and right up to when they reached their destination. Realizing she's dominated the entire conversation as they reach Atrueheart's suite, she paused, hand on the door handle. "What about you Talli?" she asked, "I've seen you do all kinds of magic so I know you can change your appearance. What are you doing about your hair for this? Wig or maaagic?" and opened the door, unaware of the horrified expression on her friend's face.

"Hey ladies, how are your preparations going?" Jeice greeted as the door opened to reveal the rest of the Fallen Angels. "Hey True! Calie! Jeice!" Oblivious, Laurie and Webby greeted the rest of the team. "Oooh, Truuuue.. Laurie needs help again!" Webby sang, but Jeice spotted the look that Talli was directing towards Laurie. "Uh...you okay Talli?" "Change...my hair?" Talli whispered. Laurie turned around, tilting her head in confusion. "Well yeah, to help you blend in more." she reasoned, frowning. "That should be a walk in the park for you, right?" Talli sputtered, "Well, I- I- of course I could, but..." She began to look more and more distressed as she thought about it. She shook her head wildly, "No, I couldn't. I mean I can, but I can't." She looked down to her feet for a moment before speaking again, "Elves are...well, we're very proud of our hair. I suppose I could just fix it using magic later but..." she whined a little, trailing off.

Laurie looked at True with a puzzled expression on her face while Webby moved to comfort the distraught Elf, patting her shoulder while reassuring her that she didn't have to change her hair. Then, a mischievous grin came across Jeice's face. "Can your magic regrow hair?" Talli jumped and gave her an incredulous look. "Jeice, whatever you're thinking...no." "Awe, it'll be fun, I promise!"

Talli made a bolt for the other side of the room to hide behind Calie, who was dressed in lovely earth-themed clothing. "By the gods, you're insane!" Talli squealed. "Oh come on, you're over 100 years old, have some fun!" Jeice threw up her hands in faux-exasperation, tossing Calie a wink as Talli used her as a human shield. "You know," Calie started, "I think I know a style that would suit you rather well, Talli. Talli groaned, "Oh, not you too!" She straightened, putting her hands on her hips. "Fine, but if I look silly, I'm blaming it on you two!" Talli trudged over to the bed and sat down, crossing her arms. "What's this idea of yours?"

"Change can be liberating, Talli." Atrueheart said with a smile and Jeice snorted, earning herself yet another of those patented 'Atrueheart glares' she's so accustom to receiving. "You'll be fine, Talli," Calie said reassuringly, "Oh, and Jeice, keep in mind you're about to experiment with someone's hair that can turn you into a newt. Permanently."

Confident any hurt feelings she may have indirectly caused were forgotten Laurie's mind snapped back to the problem at hand and tossed the wig she had chosen on the vanity. "This thing is impossible!" she declared. "Nothing is impossible, hon" True said as she and Calie exchanged knowing glances as she crossed the room to join them. Atrueheart signaled for Laurie to take a seat. Calie snatched a severely gnawed No.2 from behind Laurie's ear as she slumped into the chair. "No pencil this time." Laurie opened her mouth to protest but unable to recall reading a single incident mentioning anyone taking notes at a concert she huffed "Fine. Lets just get this over with."

After a few minutes of insufferable tugging, tucking and tussling, the leader of the Fallen Angels was able to accomplish what her warrior could not. Laurie walked across the room, making sure the horns didn't throw off her balance in any way and caught sight of Talli's new doo. "Wow, nice job Jeice, Talli you look fabulous!" Continuing, she said "So. Any of y'all ever heard of BorderBy? I meant to ask the guys about it but didn't get the chance. I wonder what the concert grounds will look like, they must have some sort of Fae backdrops, don't you think?"

As the Fallen Angels began talking about what they imagined the concert they were about to attend might look like the lights in the room began to dim. "Talli are you doing that?" Atrueheart asked and Talli replied "Why yes, yes I am." True, who imagined the whole place would be a throng of neon lights and special effects looked at her reflection and nodded approvingly. Turning to check out the rest of her team she grinned as the visions inside their minds came to life around them. One by one they gazed in wonder at their reflections in the mirror. "I love it!" Calie exclaimed, "I know, right!?" Laurie agreed, "this is so awesome Talli!" "Not bad if I do say so myself" Jeice quipped, which is quite the compliment if you know Jeice, and Webby squealed with pure delight, surprised and thrilled that the vision she could see surrounding the others was quite different from her own.

"Y'all look amazing Angels," Atrueheart said, "and thank you Talli, but ladies if we don't get a move on, imagination is all we're going to have to go on." Her team laughed and quickly returned to the Goose, ready to seek out a certain Seelie Prince and whatever other adventures the night may bring.

Misfits Prepare to Rock Out With the Goose in his sights and the threat behind them, Leaf reached Jenna and noted her condition. Muttering a curse, the ranger scooped his lady fair into his arms and disregarded a weak protest from the bard as he carried her the rest of the way to safety. Thankful for his own knowledge and skills with herbs, the elf settled Jenna on her bed and began taking care of her. Anna and Jilly came over to offer their assistance and with Ertrude puttering by to check on Jenna’s condition and nodding at the Misfits healing attempts, Jenna’s injuries were soon well taken care of.

As the moviefest was announced, Amdir, Jilly, Anna and Juana headed to watch, chattering to each other and commenting on the delightful smell of ‘lab burner corn’ wafting up the stairs to greet and lure them onward.

“I hope it tastes as good as it smells,” Amdir said as they reached the basement which was already occupied by some of the other teams.

“I don’t really trust food fixed in a lab,” Juana said, finding a seat and settling in.

Anna, deciding to play guinea pig, took a handful of corn and munched on it. “Mmm!”

“Well that answers that,” Amdir declared and helped herself to some of the treat as well.

“It seems safe enough,” Jilly said, taking a bite. “Look at all the others eating it.”

Juana looked around and rather reluctantly tried some of the corn, but was soon enjoying her own portion.

All four Misfits made themselves comfortable, munching and enjoying the movies. That is until the problem of the bands was mentioned. At that point Jilly and Juana abandoned their companions in favor of solving the puzzle.

After the four girls left the Misfits’ rooms, Leaf looked down at Jenna. “Would you like to see these movies?” he asked.

Jenna nodded. “I think it would be fun. I don’t want to miss out on some of the enjoyment and times together.” Seeing the elf regard her closely, she smiled and patted his arm. “I’m fine now. Ertrude said so…you even said it yourself that I was recovered,” she reminded. “Stop fretting about me, my protector.”

Leaf smiled slightly. “I can’t help it. I worry,” he said.

“I know,” Jenna smiled back and sat up to kiss him. “Now do you believe I feel fine,” she murmured.

Holding Jenna close and returning the kiss, the elf said with a devilish grin, “You certainly ‘feel’ fine to me.” One hand slowly moved down Jenna’s side.

“Leaf…” Jenna blushed and batted at his hand, giggling as his lean fingers glided over one of her ticklish spots.

Leaf winked and kissed her again before rising from the bed and swinging the bard into his arms once more. Jenna was about to protest that she could walk, but then stopped. It was nice to be pampered a bit and she would be beyond foolish to complain about being in the elf’s arms. Instead, she wrapped her arms around his neck and enjoyed the feel and smell of her beloved as she was given a free ride down to the basement. Finding herself comfortable ensconced on a couch, Jenna snuggled close to Leaf and together they watched some of the movies.

At an intermission between movies, Leaf looked over at the shelf from where the discs were being taken and shook his head. “That shelf is a mess,” he said and stood to go and look at the titles only to find himself presented with a new puzzle. This was one that the elf didn’t mind and he set to work, sorting and stacking, bringing neatness and order to the movies.

Jenna grinned as she watched the ranger work. He did like things to be neat and precise…most of the time. She giggled at the thought of how part of his room at home was always a mess. Leaf had blushingly admitted that it had always been that way from his early elflinghood, regardless of reminders, lectures, or even punishments from his father. At last his father had decided to stop the battle and so long as the majority of the room was neat, the young prince was allowed an area of complete mess. For a few years, Leaf had taken complete advantage of this, but then as he grew older he learned that things tended to get lost in the messy area. Therefore, now only less important things were tossed there and his prized possessions remained neat and tidy and easy to find.

“Hey!” Leaf suddenly called and Jenna looked over. “I wonder if this is a coincidence or not.” He carried over a movie and pointed something out to the bard.

Laughing, Jenna shook her head. “In this place, I’ve come to think there are no coincidences.”

“Another puzzle within a puzzle, hmm?” Leaf smiled and returned to his task.

Amdir and Anna continued to enjoy the movies and corn and once Leaf was done with the organizing, he returned to the couch and pulled Jenna into his arms again, relaxing together for a bit.

Jilly groaned and dropped her head in her hands. “Ohhh…this thing is giving me a headache!!” She shoved the attempts at solving the band puzzle away from her, sick of looking at them for the time being.

Juana frowned. She was not succeeding in this latest ‘battle’ as she wanted to and it was frustrating the warrior no end. “I just don’t get it,” she scowled. “Where are we going wrong??”

“I don’t know,” Jilly said, looking at the notes they had made for what seemed to be the hundredth time. “Unless…” She began scribbling again. “What if…” she leaned over and whispered to Juana, pointing to the paper.

“That might be it!” Juana exclaimed, causing a few people to look her way. She shrugged and ignored them. What did it matter if they thought she was nuts, as long as they solved the puzzle!

As the movies finished, people began to disperse to get ready for the concert. The Misfits had finished the two puzzles thrown their way and were now ready to get changed into their faerock attire.

“So which band are we going to see tonight?” Amdir asked.

Jilly and Juana answered at the same time and Amdir and the others nodded. The group gathered at the table to peruse the posters and glean ideas.

“Dressing as fans of a band should be easy,” the vagabond said. “We did the same thing last year, remember?”

“I remember having to try to look like a boy,” Anna said, wrinkling her nose.

“And some of us had to be Nancy,” Jenna grinned, recalling their previous exploits.

“And did a wonderful job too,” Leaf assured with a grin of his own. “But I agree with Amdir, we should have no problem with this one.”

“Easy for you to say, elf boy,” Jilly teased lightly, pushing Leaf and they all laughed.

“Okay so I have a bit of a head start on the whole fey/elf prince look,” the ranger grinned. “But I’m sure you ladies will do me proud.”

Laughing and chatting as they headed upstairs together, Leaf escorted Jenna to her room and left her with a kiss. “I will meet you at the bottom of the stairs as soon as we’re ready,” he said with a smile before going to his own room.

Once in his own room, the elf grinned to himself. Pale he could do and to him the lightning part looked more like snow or ice, so…out came clothing suited to the theme as well as the matching color scheme. Leaf again was thankful his older brother was such a fashion guru and had schooled his younger brother on the finer points of color matching, even when Leaf had scoffed and rolled his eyes. Who would have ever thought it would come in handy?

Now what to do about his eyes and hair? Leaf frowned thoughtfully and dug through his things again. He took out a small bottle of liquid and put a drop of it in each eye, holding them closed for the count of twenty. Then he turned to the mirror and smiled at the results. The potion had enhanced and brought out the blue in his normally blue-grey eyes. It was perfect for an ‘icy’ look. Next came his hair and Leaf shuddered to think what his father would have said, but this was something that had to be done for the sake of the adventure. He withdrew a flask and disappeared into the bathing chamber. When he returned, his normally golden hair had been lightened until it was closer to white than gold. The elf knew that it would take several washes to take away all of the rinse, but his hair would be its normal color by the time he returned home and more than likely long before.

Pleased with his appearance, Leaf dressed in the clothing articles he had laid out earlier. Looking in the mirror, he smiled. Who but an elf prince could match another elf prince, he thought. He only hoped that they could find Caniel tonight and actually speak to him about what he’d done, why, and what to do next. Leaf left his room and made his way to the ground floor once more, waiting near the staircase for the girls.

Jilly ran into her room and started tearing through her clothes, muttering to herself. She knew that she had the perfect outfit for the concert tonight; it was just a matter of finding it! Finally she located the pants.

“Now, where is my corset??” she laughed as she kept digging. Spotting it, she reached for the corset and added it to the clothes in her arms. “Ok, outfit found,” she said, going into the bathroom to hang it up. She then turned on the shower, using nothing but hot water, in an effort to get rid of wrinkles. With that part of her task accomplished, Jilly returned to the bedroom and searched her closet for the shoes to match her outfit.

“Now for makeup,” she smiled, seating herself in front of the mirror. Jilly carefully outlined her blue eyes and added the finishing touches. “Done,” she smiled at her reflection before going to retrieve her clothes. It only took a short time to slip into her outfit, dab on some perfume and take a final look in the mirror. Sighing at her hair, Jilly shook her head. It needed something else, but what? She looked through her things again but came up empty-handed. “Well, too late now, the others will be waiting,” she said and then headed down the stairs to meet up with the rest of the group.

Anna hurried upstairs muttering the whole way. "I think I should've brought my entire wardrobe with me. Every time I turn around we have to change our clothes. I don't even know if I have anything concert worthy". She quickly did a complete circle in her closet and eyed a gorgeous blue dress. “Hmm…now there’s a possibility,” she said to herself, removing it from the closet. She decided to go take a shower and fix her hair and makeup first. She quickly finished her hair and makeup before walking back to her room. She slipped on her new outfit. Giving it one final look, she grinned to herself and whispered a spell, creating a small sphere in her hand, and causing blue lightning to surround her hand and arm. “Perfect for the group we’re going to see,” the mage declared as she headed out of the room.

Jenna went to her bag and pulled out her silver top. She blushed as she found some of her lace at the bottom of the bag. She had intended on wearing it for her beloved when they were alone, but it seemed more appropriate to wear it over her top instead. She found the sheer dress that Leaf had gotten for her during the break from their adventures. It fit nicely with the outfit. She then pulled on her lace stockings and then with a slight groan, managed to put her boots on as well. She was still a little sore from their battle. A little eye makeup with sparkles completed the look. She brushed her hair, popped on the spikey headband, and after a satisfied look in the mirror she headed downstairs to meet the others.

Juana stared at the pictures of the bands billed for the show. Stormboys eh? She thought to herself. They sure are shiny... First things first, I will have to find a way to lighten my hair. She pulled out her makeup bag and found some silver sparkly paint. Sitting in the mirror, she used a portion of it to decorate her face, then wiped the rest through her hair. She dug through her closet, grabbing out anything that sparkled or shimmered, and managed to find some broodingly colorful lightning leggings to boot. She threw on a few of her dual purpose garments to be sure she would be prepared. A rock concert is the perfect scenery for concealed weapons. Hidden blades in my shoes and corset, sharp wire for... who knows what, masquerading as anklets. Perfect. She got out her darkest henna ink for some nice body art to match the setting and checked herself out in the mirror. Hmm... something is missing. Flint flew to the back of her closet and came out with what looked like another sprite. OH! Juana exclaimed, That will do perfectly! And off she went to meet the others.

Leaf looked up at the sound of footsteps on the stairs and grinned as some of his team-mates started down. He gave Amdir a rakish wink and said, “Looking good, vagabond.” Then his gaze went to movement at the top and his eyes widened as Jenna descended. The elf gave an appreciative whistle. “You know, I was all ready to see Pale Lightning and the Stormboys…they looked like the best and were my favorite out of the posters. But I’m beginning to think we might not need them since we have Lightning Leaf and the Storm Rockers,” he quipped with a grin.
