So I was playing around with a generator that creates character premises... and got this lovely gem: This rambunctious, homely old man with a strange collection and a mysterious past comes from the world under the bed.

I'm absolutely in love with this premise, and he's blossomed in my head and I am working on a pet on Subeta for him. The only thing I'm having an issue with is... what is he going to collect???

Anyone have any suggestions?

Here are a bunch of weird things some people collect. Maybe he could also collect stuff in a certain color?^^ And because I just found something in the trash can and got an achievement: Maybe he could collect trash? XD

Oh that's really helpful, thank you! I also hadn't thought of the color idea, that could be fun...

You're welcome, glad I could help c: Collecting something in a certain color was the first thing that came to my mind^^ But it would be a huge tc unless you pick a rather specific color or limit it to a range of items.

If I did a certain color, it'd definitely be limited! Probably limited to things likely to get lost under the bed.

The fact that he's coming from "the world under the bed" makes me think of something to do with kids. Maybe children's toys? Or maybe children's imaginary friends? Like, when kids outgrow their imaginary friends, the imaginary friends go to live with this old guy? Or maybe kids' nightmares (if you wanna be creepy, lol)?

I hope it helps! I wasn't sure whether you wanted to go with a horror concept or not, but horror was one of the first things I thought of, lol.

A strange collection could be made of lost things he has found on his ventures from under the bed; I'm thinking keys, matches, safety pins, buttons. 'Homely' but somewhat unusual items to keep.

Could I ask what you used to generate the character premise(s)?

I agree with the idea of children's toys or trash like items (Like what Alex posted) :)

This would be a cute idea, but I'm really hoping to avoid it if I can, because then it kinda overlaps my character Constance. I might use some of the suggested items for her, though! Thanks!

Junk!

There's so many totally awesome random old junky items on subeta, and you don't get more strange than random junk!

Stuff like:

Or dolls. There's quite a bit of lore behind dolls, like they were once believed to house the souls of spirits who had died and gto trapped in the dolls thinking they were empty bodies. There's a handful or two of dolls onsite (especially if you count the ragdolls!) not to mention little clothes and needles and thread for upkeep and whatnot.

It'd be interesting if you thought about what the other world might be (alternate reality, aliens, giant world, tiny people world, another realm) and if there was anything extraordinary there that was "meh" here (like idk, maybe trees are made of stone there so they think paper is a really really big deal there?)

I would do a little more developing of his world first and pick something that's interactive with it. Maybe he can read or knows someone who can and likes to share the stories with people, maybe they steal electricity like the Rats of NIMH, or maybe he just likes to decorate his house with pretty glass or otherworldly plants.

- I absolutely love the idea of the imaginary friends going back to the world under the bed. That is really cool and unique!

Btw, may I ask what generator you use? :)

I was using this one! http://www.springhole.net/writing_roleplaying_randomators/charactercreator.htm I found it in my bookmarks, but I don't ever remember seeing it before... xD The prompt it actually gave me was "This rambunctious, homely old man with a strange collection and a mysterious past comes from the world under the bed and lives with a celebrity in a nest." But I thought that was TOO silly.

[edit] Thanks everybody for your help! I figured it out. :)
