memetics is the theory of memes.

what is a meme? you can think of a meme like a virus that jumps from human brain to human brain. a meme is an idea. language is a meme. religion is a meme. racism is a meme. pepe is a meme.

richard dawkins coined the term "meme" in his book the selfish gene. it comes from the latin word mimeme which means "imitated" it is important to think of memes as "that which is imitated"

I didn't really know memetics was a thing. I guess I just kind of figured memes like grumpy cat or whatever were just...things people saw on the internet that got popular/overused.
