How do the lock topic buttons work? Do they work?
For anyone who is curious about this...
You may want a different name for the thread or else this may just get locked.
I think they might just be for mods but I'm not certain
- oops yes good point ^_^;
I wasn't sure if they are meant to be for us to lock a thread or just to alert a mod to lock it.
Users can request getting their topic locked by changing the subject; actually locking topics isn't something normal users can do.
Hope that makes sense. XD;

Only mods (in their forum) and UAs/Staff are allowed to lock topics.

Is there a reason why there's a "lock topic" button for users on their own topics, then? It's up by the little check mark to subscribe to the thread, but only on topics users create themselves.
I think it was to alert the mods to lock it, maybe?
It doesn't seem to do anything if you push it, though. It's just.. there.
If it was a system response, though, of course it wouldn't "do anything". I was postulating it based on how forums I used to work on were structured - in that case, there were two functions that had no apparent action, but sent a notification to the monitors for that particular section. One was to "lock" the topic, the other was similar to a report function, but was generally used when you wanted to send an entire copy of the single post you were reporting. In neither case was there anything on the user end visible - which usually meant that people would jam the button three or four times.
I honestly don't know why it is still there on your own topics. I just know that they don't want users to lock their topics. The exception is when you have a ping group I believe you can lock your topics in there. And honestly that may be why the button still shows in normal topics.
