Newbie: Woah! What races and classes can I choose? What does STRDEXCONINTWISCHA mean?! Can I be super rich and invincible?
Okay, let's take this one at a time. Step by step.
Some common races are human, dwarf, elf, and halfling (think hobbit). I'm an elf! You can pick a subrace as well. For example, I'm a gray elf. Some other common subraces are: hill dwarf, mountain dwarf, high elf, wood elf, dark elf, lightfoot halfling, stout halfling, and humans have different ethnicities. These are not all that exist, so feel free to pick from other races too, such as orc, goblin, khajiit, argonian, etc.
Classes define your skills and play style. Are you a cleric (healer), a fighter, a rogue (stealth/survival) or a wizard?
((You're a wizard, Sakura!))
Very funny. Now you can provide other details about your character's appearance and personality. For example, I have beautiful long strands of golden hair and deep purple eyes. I have pristine skin, am very tall, and men - and even women! - often turn their heads wherev-
((You're overdoing it... You elves and your "modesty," I swear.))
Right... Not much is known about my backstory and I like to keep it that way. Also, I'd rather not reveal my age; it's a woman's best kept secret. Let's just say I've been around for a while... I'm pretty cheerful and easygoing, and very curious. My hobbies are shopping and-
((Why don't you tell them how you're an item hoarder?))
I prefer to call myself a collector of fine artifacts.
((Hoooooooarderrrrr.))
...I'm also an experienced wizard. Anyway, enough about me. Let's move on to abilities.
This is that STR/DEX/CON/INT/WIS/CHA you were wondering about earlier. These three-letter abbreviations stand the six abilities: strength, dexterity, constitution, intelligence, wisdom, and charisma.
Strength is an ability you surely understand. How much can you carry? How far can you jump? How hard can you hit? Especially important for fighters.
Dexterity is your agility, reflexes, and balance. How well can you hide? Can you pickpocket the dagger? Can you land on your feet like a cat? How well can you use that rapier? Who strikes first? Especially important for rogues.
Constitution is how well you take damage and stamina. Can you really down that entire mug of ale? Did that hit kill you? How long can you hold your breath? Important for everyone.
Intelligence is your memory, spellcasting, and logic; in short, your book smarts. Did you succesfully banish that demon? Can you make out what those ancient runes say? Especially important for wizards.
Wisdom is your perception and intuitiveness; in short, your street smarts. Is that guy lying to you? What is he going to do next? Can you eavesdrop on that secret conversation? Can you hunt down that deer? So where should you go now? Especially important for clerics and rogues.
Charisma is your charm and social skills. Can you get that guard to believe you? Can you flirt your way into those private quarters? Can you scare that thug away?
Those are the 6 abilities. You have a total of 15 points to distribute between them as you like. You may also subtract points to add to another stat. For example, my stats could look like this:
STR: -3, DEX: 3, CON: 0
INT: 5, WIS: 2, CHA: 8
...meaning I'm pretty weak, but agile, smart, and charming ;)
These points are bonuses that will be added to your dice roll. So if I'm trying to attack with an axe, I roll and add my strength points to assess how hard I swung. I rolled a 3... and my strength points = -3... So that's a zero. I cut air!
Build your abilities according to your character's personality and skills. It will really help develop your character.
Man, all that ability talk was exhausting. Let's move on to one of my favorite topics: spells! If you choose a cleric or wizard class, you start out with a few basic spells, but there are other spells available in-game!
The DM will tell you what spells and equipment you start out with in-game. However, if you have a particular request, you may ask for permission. I have a ton of cool items ((HOARDER!)), ...including my hot gray elf boyfriend named Vidur ❤️
Vidur: Um...Hello?
Hi, Sweetie! Before we continue, let's talk about dice. The most common die in the game is the d20, meaning it has 20 sides. In the same way, a d6 is a normal 6-sided die. There are other dice, but don't worry too much because the DM will tell you which to use, when. Please use the official dice roller: https://www.wizards.com/dnd/dice/dice.htm
Okay, on to my other favorite topic: GOLD! It's the currency of D&D! To determine the amount of gold you receive at the start, please roll TWO d100s, meaning you can have up to 200 gold to start with (Sarah's own rule).
Aaaaaand... That's all you need to know to build a proper character!
If you have any questions about whether something is acceptable, need help with stats or any other aspects of character creation, please post or message! Don't feel stupid!Last but definitely not least, general rules!

The things I would like to know and approve beforehand are any special abilities/items/powers. Go ahead and submit character sheets, you two! (^^)/

Alright, Corsair and I have our character sheets.
A Horns & Roses fan!
Sorry about the double post. I knew it would mess up somehow... Anyway, I have a question for you before we get started. Which character will you be playing this campaign? Or both?
I'll be playing both in this campaign, just so I can tie in more PC's.
A Horns & Roses fan!
[[ I might consider joining with my halfling sorcerer, but it looks like you guys are pretty much full of wizard types so far, and he's really my only D&D character since I've only just started getting into the game. If a spot opens up, or you really wouldn't mind a group full of wizard types and lacking tanks, let me know! Good luck finding more players and whatnot. ]]
Roger!
Please feel free to join in! As for me, I don't mind at all :) Post a character sheet and we can get going!! I'm still in the process of collecting info in my handy-dandy notebook anyway. Thank you; this is more people than I expected actually, haha.
That's fine! Yes, you will be assigned cantrips (lvl. 0) at the beginning. You only need to write a spell if it's outside the normal cantrips, like your lvl. 1 spells. Also any special equipment you carry, along with any effects, or special abilities your character has! For example, Vintage's characters both have racial abilities.
Name: Seliat Ostgood Gender: Male Race: Halfling (Partial Fey-type; See here.) Class: Sorcerer Appearance: Medium dark skin, bright grey-blue eyes. Black, fairly messy hair combed back, sideburns. Around 3 ft. tall, rather plush around the belly, bum, and thighs. Stats: Str: -2 Dex: 4 Con: 2 Int: 2 Wis: 2 Cha: 7 Items & Equipment: Layers of comfortable clothing, a leather belt with a small dagger sheath and pouch of various nick-knacks (some for spells, some not), smallish bag with blanket, tarrot cards, notebook and food items, staff. Gold: 11 (3 + 8)
[[ Let me know if I should change anything. I think I'll just leave out any special spells for this, since I'm so new to all of this and it'll make it simpler. Thanks for being so patient with me, hehe. ]]
You open your eyes in an unfamiliar place, with three unfamiliar beings next to you. You seem to be standing near a small, walled town. Directly in front of you, some few hundred feet off, is a gate with two guards on each side. To the left of you is a lush forest, and to your right is the ocean. You see a woman approach you. She is clearly an elf, but one far more beautiful than you have ever seen. Her hair is flowing, silver locks all the way down to her hips. Her eyes are a deep amethyst, and she seems to have some sort of aura glowing all around her. She speaks in an authoritative yet kind voice. "Greetings, travelers. Please do not be frightened. My name is Aaliyah, and I am here to assist you. I imagine you must be quite confused, but allow me to explain." Her voice grows solemn. "The town you see before you is in great danger. I have foreseen its destruction by a dark evil. I wish to prevent that destruction and have therefore summoned each of you from your own worlds. I believe each of you possesses a special quality that will be useful in this quest to banish the darkness from this land." She looked down, seeming almost embarrassed. "I am afraid I cannot tell you precisely what danger you are facing or when, as I am not certain myself; however, I will endow you with a few useful items. Please use them as you see fit. As you can see, you each came with all the items and gold on your body at the time of your... travel here." She turned her glance toward Leeda. "Leeda Elsmere, the rogue halfling. Wise, strong, and dextrous. I present you with this shoulder pack, two steel daggers, two steel throwing knives, a tool kit containing 20 lockpicks, a hammer, 20 nails, an auger, and shears, 20 foot cords, leather arm bracers, and a darkwood shortbow and quiver, along with 24 arrows. Lastly, a token from my kin: an ivory flute, which, played well, has a calming effect on those around you." "Leon Coreth, the human archer. Wise and with unmatched dexterity. Please take these leather arm bracers, backpack, and waterskin. From my people, I also give this ash longbow and quiver, along with 24 arrows. You may find them to be... unusually accurate." "Rythus Kytheris, the gnoll fighter. Untroubled by darkness, ferocious, charismatic, and unmatched in strength and constitution. To you I present this adamantine greataxe, along with two iron hand axes, five torches, backpack, and waterskin. Lastly, I give you this Elven chainmail armor, more durable than any other armor you may find." "Sseira Criel, the Lizardfolk wizard. Excelling in water, you are wise, charming, and unmatched in intelligence. I see you have gone above your cantrips and learned Burning Hands, Acid Arrow, Read Magic, and Magic Missile. For you, this crystal dagger, belt, and waterskin. The gift from my kin is an intricate Elven healing staff. Its power will never run dry." "Finally, Seliat Osgood, the Fey Halfling Sorcerer. What you lack in strength you make up for in dexterity, and you are unmatched in charisma. Also having gone above your cantrips, you have learned Charm Person, Disguise Self, Read Magic, and True Strike. To you I give this bag, notebook and pen, tarot cards, and evocation staff. From my people, a blanket to keep you warm and out of sight." "I pray these items will aid you in your journey. I am afraid I cannot stay any longer. From now on, you may choose to journey together or go your separate ways. I cannot decide your path for you, but I wish you luck." With that, Aaliyah vanishes before your eyes, leaving only the town gate ahead of you.
[[ And so it has begun! Waiting sucks, so for now, I think we can adopt a fair, first-come-first-serve initiative system, meaning whoever posts first can take action, within reason. Don't hog the actions please! ;) The general rule is maximum three actions per turn. In game dialogue is free though, so feel free to talk to each other while you're waiting. If you haven't subscribed to this thread yet, please do so! Also, these are the cantrips for mages Sseira and Seliat: Acid Splash, Dancing Lights, Fire Bolt, Mage Hand, Ghost Sound, Poison Spray, Prestidigitation, Ray of Frost, Shocking Grasp, and Silent Image. They are yours to use.]]
Rythus Kytheris
Rythus looked to the group around him. "These are my mates from 'ere on out then eh? Fair enough then... Much better than traveling alone, I suppose." With that thought in mind, he offered a hand to the lizardfolk lady Sseira, who came in sitting down. Once she was helped up, he said to the group "Well then, I've got no problem with this. I'll be heading to that town if anyone wants to join me." He then began to walk towards the gate.
Sseira Criel
Sseira nearly fell backwards as she opened her eyes, one moment she was swimming away from a pack of wolves, the next she was here, in front of some mystical elven lady. Once the lady disappeared, the big gnoll offered his hand to her. She gratefully accepted and was quickly pulled up. She looked around to the others in the group as Rythus spoke, and it seemed that she and Rythus were the odd ones out of the bunch here. Once he was done talking, she simply said, "I've no objections." She then followed by Rythus' side.

Seliat Ostgood
It was a long moment before Seliat could regain himself enough to formulate a response- something unusual for the typically quick-to-speak Halfling. This was all very strange, quite the novel experience. Even so, after his initial shock Seliat seemed to be adjusting quickly, just as some of his new allies- if he could call them that just yet. He adjusted his belts and took a deep breath before following the Gnoll and his reptilian friend. "The town? Good idea. We can try to collect more supplies for our little- er, big adventure."
Leeda Elsmere
Leeda woke up, eyes blurry. She rubbed them to clear them away and stared cautiously around her. She didn't appreciate being dropped into places randomly. Her eyes settled on the elf lady in front of her. She listened to what the lady said, cautiously accepting the gifts she presented. Her hands traced over the flute, it was very well made, it was elf-made so of course it was. She hadn't picked one up in many years. Her last one had been lost in a fire. The other tools were appreciated- she felt slightly exposed without her regular tools. Quickly she donned the other items, and jumped to her feet, intent on following the others. She didn't say much as she wondered what this quest was going to be.
