...only intent on buying a new small fish tank for my red cap oranda (goldfish) because his old filter went kaput and I couldn't find a filter that would replace it/work with the current tank. I find a nice tank I like, a 1.5 gallon with a built-in filter and pick up some new gravel and plants because they're on sale. Then I go walk around the store because of course I have to look at the kitties and rats and other fish, etc. I always like to look at the betta fish because I love betta fish. I used to have them over the years and was planning on getting another one soon, but I never seem to latch on to one. Well...I did yesterday. I walk up to their display of bettas in those sad little plastic cups and most of them are just kind of sitting on the bottom of the cup or lazily swimming in circles. But this one, he swims right up to the front of the cup and fans out a couple times and it's like he's staring right at me, like "YOU. Pick this cup up and let's get out of here. NOW." So I pick the cup up and look at him and he's gorgeous - a delta marble dragon scale. Looks iridescent like an opal almost. He's got lavender and mint green and steel blue and two of his fins (the bitty bottom ones) are bright red. So I look at my mom and she's all "Oh no..." and I'm like "Yeah, he's coming home with me." And she just rolls her eyes. But how could I help it?! He basically begged me to take him home. What kind of a fish does that!? So he's home on my desk now in the new tank I bought for the other fish (who I did find a new filter for) and he's basically just awesome. I'd never seen a dragon scale before except in pictures and this little guy, he's just so damn cool. And did I mention gorgeous? Because he is. I named him Khal Drogo, btw. XD
So...betta fish? Other fish or pets you want to share? Wanna seeeeeeee. (I'll post pictures later when I get home.)
N'yawww. XD That was the cutest thing I've read in a long time.

I love Betta's, but they never seem to last long with me. The oldest fish I had live was a year. The rest pretty much died when I got them because, I was too lazy to change the water on a weekly basis. I currently have a 10G aquarium set up and I was working on a 25G (two parts away), but I have my bird now. I'll probably get rid of the 10G just so I use the stand for Buddy.
Glad you love your fish! I always loved mine when I picked them out :)
I had the same experience. I went in to get stuff for my fish one time (about two years ago). I ended up looking at all of the pets too. I decided to go against my parents wishes and buy myself two guinea pigs and their accessories when I only went in for water purifier for my fish tank. Needless to say my parents weren't happy but I ended up getting to keep them in the end. It's the first pet I have paid for EVERYTHING for. I now don't have a fish tank because of the hassle of cleaning it out while working and going to college, but I wish I had the time to put into it. I loved my guppies, they were always trying to mate with the same sex, pretty amusing watching them do that too.
I used to keep Bettas a few years ago, but the longest I was able to hang on to two at a time was a year. My last two lasted like a week or so for some reason and they were the prettiest I'd owned yet.
I've thought about trying to keep one again, I still have two bowls and a tank and possibly some rocks but unsure for certain since we moved last year but haven't even been able to look at the selection much. I've also got two dogs to look after now but I might still give it another shot when I get the chance.
Wow, your new betta sounds incredible! Have any pictures of the handsome guy yet? I've never heard of that type of betta. O:
Out of curiosity, did your tank have a filter or no? I was thinking changing the water every week sounds way too frequent, but then I expect it'd obviously be different if it was just a tank without one.
When I had bettas, I changed the filter cartridge once a month (and I've since heard from a betta owner friend of mine that you want them to actually go even longer because every time you clean, it restarts their cycle. Someone might know different and correct me, but that's what I heard. I'm not sure how much cleaning tanks affects their lifespans, but I had a female that lived four, maybe five years till she passed. She actually did better than my other females that died prior, I wonder if part of it had to do with me extending the time I'd put in new filter cartridges and switch out water. Bettas are oddly a lot of work, so I haven't gotten anymore. xD My favorite was probably my male crowntail, he was a beauty.
No, the tank didn't have a filter. I stopped buying them because they're too much work.
Ah okay, that explains it. xD I'm with you, I'd probably be too lazy to upkeep a tank every week, nice as fish are.
O-o I lvoe betta fishies. They're Adorable.
Im quite fond of Half Moon Betas
But its mostly litle fish in general.
When i used to work in a petstore I would have to feed the little guys every day. sometimes i would just my finger tips on the surface of the water and get fishy kisses. (Of the other fish. not the betas.)
