Princes and Puzzles, or Sometimes, Girlie, You're Just All Wet

With your vehicles built and ready, your team seems ready for adventure, and it looks like you're about to get one. As soon as you've finished a lunch lavishly provided in true Wayward style, Winton sits down with you. He's holding a message from Vibrissa.

"This should have been simple," he explains. "Vibrissa writes that we need to find Seelie Prince, Caniel, who is next to inherit the throne, since it is his going out of the boundaries and into the Borderlands that triggered the Unseelie takeover attempt. He seems to want to become a rock star."

Kelian and Tanaka both snort on that one, but Winton continues. "The problem is that both these lads have been scouring the nearby towns and there's no Caniel anywhere. We also learn that the Borderlands are absolutely full up with Elven and Faerie performers."

Kelian nods. "It's a Faerock circus out there. We've got wannabes in droves, and even a few headlines, but no one's admitting to being Caniel."

"They all have stage names," Tanaka adds. "And there are some pretty sinister characters lurking as well, not to mention Bone Riders patrols everywhere. We took out at least six just getting around. Can I get a coffee refill?"

He holds out his mug to Larianne, and she smilingly refills Kelian's, then wipes off her smile and does Tanaka's, but not without spilling some on his hand. He winces but says nothing.

Winton frowns at his daughter. "That's the second time you spilled something on our guest this lunch. Take some more care, dear."

"Right, Dad," Larianne agrees, but her expression never changes.

Winton clears his throat and continues. "We can't help but have a foreboding that the Unseelie Forces may have him, but Thorson thinks we'd know if they did, so we might still have a bit of time. Too bad they're sold out for the concert at BorderBy. If we could get in, we'd might have some luck."

"I think we can," Ertrude interrupts. "They're giving away some free tickets to the winners of this puzzle contest."

She waves a piece of paper in her hands. "You know I love puzzles, but I'm feeling heplessly out of touch with this one, and even Ms. Miranda's been helping me, but we're stumped.

"All we have to do is provide the missing lyrics to 15 song quotes, which should be easy, except we have to give them the misheard versions of each one!"

"Tall order," Ms. Miranda agrees, "and we've gone through every music mag in the junk shop. Supposedly, the promoters took polls and found that 4 or more out of 10 folks who heard these got 'em wrong."

Ertrude nods. "Fortunately, you've all helped us before, so we have faith you can get those tickets!"

She shows you the list:

Tanaka chuckles. "I can give you number 4 for sure."

Larianne makes another pass with the iced tea pitcher and is just about to pour some down his neck when his hand whips back and grabs the pitcher away.

"That's three, girlie," he says pleasantly, then unceremoniously throws her over his shoulder, ignores her shouts of indignation, and carries her outside. Within a minute, there is a loud splash and another scream.

"I just filled that trough this morning!" laments Tony while the rest of the table erupts in merriment.

Tanaka returns while the shrieks continue and fills Ertrude's empty glass as he looks down the list of missing words.

"You know all of you have to get dressed for tonight. Vibrissa says you'll be summoned to the Seelie court, and you might be able to get more info on Caniel there," Winton concludes.

"In the meantime, let's solve this puzzle," Ertrude finishes, smiling at Tanaka, who returns his most charming grin. "And thank you. That needed to be done."

"Okay," Ms. Miranda rools up her sleeve. "Let's lick this, send it off, and go get into our best bib and tucker. I know I got a dryer somewhere for 'girlie's' hair," she adds with a chuckle.

(OOC: This is a two-fold Puzzle HA challenge. First, solve the puzzle and fill in the misheard lyrics. WARNING: These misheard versions are often risque' and are NOT "politically correct. They are pretty funny, though.

Then, dress up for a visit to the Seelie Court. (Yes, thats formal "best bib and tucker," as Ms. Miranda would say. Pusgy is already wearing her finest. Don't forget you are in a setting, but you have a number of options. You have until June 15th at 11:59 Subeta Time. This puzzle if OPTIONAL for Traveler mode.) Berate, scream, accuse, and otherwise lambaste Rowan on the OOC thread for this chapter. :D)

Frieda entered the Gearloose Goose after helping and the other Rogues work on the Terrapin Glider. She was hot, dirty and felt like she needed a cool iced tea. She rushed over to have a look at Tanaka's hand after it got burned, but he pulled it away from her when she immediately attempted to smear a dab of stinkweed and pussypaws salve on it. She backed away and listened to Ertrude explain about the puzzles. Her ears perked up and she soon forgot about Tanaka's injury.

Soon, all the 'Rogues' headed off to their rooms to see what could be done to prepare for an audience in the Seelie Court.

The Stone Cold Rogues Await Their Summons To The Seelie Court
Aicha the Mage Prepares for a Court Visit Aicha hummed to herself as she looked through her clothing options. It was time for another outing and thus for another crowd to be awed by her. Upon hearing they had to dress, the mage had quickly found a bedroom and locked the door. Whoever had been living there would just have to wait while the mage dressed. She had brought her own collection of clothing in a magically shrunken closet: it was never a bad thing to have options, after all.

Looking through for something...bright, she found her mind drifting back to confrontation from earlier with the...cow. The stupid thing clearly didn't understand just what she was dealing with - Aicha would be sure to rectify that in the near future. But for now, she had clothes to pick out.

She was sure everyone else was going for glamorous gowns like from a fairy tale or a ball. How predictable. It was so unlike her to merely 'fit in,' so a gown on that sort would be a definite 'no'. An idea suddenly came to her and the mage smiled. Reaching into the very back, she grabbed one of her newest additions - a very provocative piece in red with lots of cutouts and lace. Drop dead gorgeous...

Smirking, the mage dressed quickly in matching red shoes that had been a 'donation' from a high class lady, a set of floral anklets that had been 'acquired' from a famous dancer, an arm bangle that had been a gracious gift from a princess, and a necklace that had once belonged to a queen. A spell extended her hair down past her waist and a circlet (an acquisition from a ex-rival mage) was added to the top.

Perfect the mage thought as she examined her reflection. Her 'teammates' would probably not be too fond of the outfit, but Aicha would like to see any of them try and make her change. With a grin, she added a basic shield spell around her before she sat down to relax. Let them call for me... I'm not going to stand around waiting on them.

shasa the bard deals with a petulant snake "We're off to see the fairies, an' the Queen of the Seelie Court!" Shasa warbled as she sorted through her luggage. She knew there was a formal dress in there somewhere. A few moments of later, she unfolded the dress and looked at it thoughtfully. It was a lovely dress, elegant, regal and understated, fit for a princess or perhaps even a queen. It also ensured that the wearer couldn't take a stride longer than five inches at a time, unless they wanted to take a nosedive to the ground. She would look fabulous in it, no doubt about that, but she didn't want to end up as a fabulous corpse. Reluctantly, Shasa put the dress back. She quickly cheered up as she pulled out her second choice, a sleek red dress with gold stitching. The flowing skirt was perfect for dancing, and if need be, running for your life. Making her decision, Shasa carefully held the dress up. "What do you think, Miss Dace?" she called to her room-mate who was busy with her own preparations.

Caught up in her own excitement, she did not entirely register Dace's wistful look and gave a relieved sigh as the shapeshifter said, "Ohhh, I think it's just divine! I'm sure it will catch the attention of all the right people!" About to ask if she could help Dace with anything, she looked up at the sound of footsteps and smiled as Teislyn knocked and entered.

"Both would look good on you," she replied. "But maybe you could wear it up for a change? And don't worry! I'm sure the fairies will love you. I've heard they are really nice!"

After Teislyn left she looked at Dace. "Um... they are nice, right? I'm not very up on the fairies here."

The reply came not from Dace but from what Shasa had taken to be a decorative butterfly perched on Dace's hairband. It fluttered off and landed beside her, and she quickly prevented herself from snapping it up. As delicious as it would likely taste, eating Dace's friend would certainly not help either of them. "The fairies here are different. They're not like the faeriekin where I come from. Oh, and just WAIT until you meet their queen! I'm not sure either of you are prepared for that!" cried the butterfly excitedly before Dace scooped her up and left, saying something about getting clothes from Frieda or Teislyn.

Shasa began to look through her luggage and then froze, her room-mate's upside-down suitcase and wistful tone finally getting through her skull. Mentally cursing herself, she shifted form and ran after Dace, trampling a surprised Kiska in the process. "Hey, wait up!" she caught up with Dace as she entered Frieda and Teislyn's room and pawed at her ankle. "Would you like to see if anything I have fits you?"

A little while later, back in her own room, Shasa searched through her luggage again and took out a bottle of dark red liquid. Draping a towel around her shoulders she poured some of the liquid into her hand and slowly rubbed it into her hair. She had received both the bottle and the recipe as a 'graduation' gift from an old bard she had trained with for a while. The substance would dye her hair a deep purple, but even better, it would make it light and springy. When she danced, her hair would dance with her. As an added bonus, it had no smell at all, which was a huge relief for her sensitive nose.

"Kiska requires a proper polishing." Kiska announced as he made a show of not watching Shasa groom.

Shasa gave the snake a withering look. "No, you do not. I polished your scales all morning."

"But... there is a spot! A blemish on Kiska's fine countenance!" the snake's voice rose and Shasa threw a washcloth at him.

"It's a speck of dust! Now wipe it off and leave. We girls are changing here!" Kiska tossed his head.

"Kiska will polish himself here. He will keep his eyes closed though it makes no difference to him."

This time, a towel flopped on him. "Kiska has no eyelids to keep closed!" growled Shasa. She took a deep breath. "Why don't you stand guard outside? Make sure no one barges in here. And you don't need another polishing. You look wonderful. The fairies will be enchanted by your gleaming green scales, as bright as new leaves after a spring shower. The Queen herself will fall under the spell of your emerald eyes, she will fall deeply in love and you will break her heart for you cannot be parted from your life of adventure." Shasa ran out of breath and returned the snake's sardonic look.

But he also looked mollified. "Kiska will stand guard." he said calmly, slithering out of the door and pulling it shut behind him.

Shasa sighed with relief "Sorry about that. He's a walking headache, isn't he?" Realising that her hair had dried, she carefully combed and tied it back before tugging on her dress along with the matching shawl and sleeves. Finally, she pulled on her shoes and gently tapped the toes on the ground. The shoes were still quite new and she had only broken them in a few days earlier. Prancing to the mirror, she quickly applied some makeup before turning around. "So... how do I look?"

Dace the vagabond tries to find clothes that fit...[i differently.] Dace was pawing through her suitcase and making worried tsks every few seconds. Her shredded outfit from her adventure with the wires and helping build the Terrapin glider was ruined and smelly and seeing as she was no longer a minotaur, not even wearable. She flipped the suitcase over, hoping maybe via some miracle she had packed ANYTHING that didn't look like it belonged on a barge. She wistfully eyed Shasa's dresses and perked her ears when her roommate asked her about the embroidered red dress she was holding up.

"What do you think Miss Dace?" The embroidery glimmered in the light, the fabric making a light swishing sound.

"Ohhh, I think it's just divine! I'm sure it will catch the attention of all the right people!" Just then there was a knock on the door and Teislyn popped in to the room, asking about her hair.

"I think up would look wonderful." Dace said. She smiled as the other bard left to go do her hair. Shasa looked over at Dace and tilted her head. "Um... they are nice, right? I'm not very up on the fairies here."

Dace was about to answer when the butterfly on her hairband fluttered off and landed near Shasa.

"The fairies here are different. They're not like the faeriekin where I come from. Oh, and just WAIT until you meet their queen! I'm not sure either of you are prepared for that!"

Dace blushed and swooped her hand down, scooping up the butterfly and hissing at it. "Shhh! No one asked you to talk!" She looked at Dace sheepishly. "I think I'm going to go see if Teislyn or Frieda have anything I can wear." She reached up and rubbed her head, feeling the soft fox ears nestled in her clean hair.

Teislyn the Bard Dresses in Style Teislyn was excited and nervous at the same time for this upcoming meeting at the Seelie court. She had dressed up before in Veta for important performances, but nothing like this!

After hearing about the court meeting, she excused herself and ran upstairs with Lini trailing behind. Pushing open the room she was sharing with Frieda, she went over to the closet and threw it open. "There has to be something here Lini!", she exclaimed to the Lure, who had decided to nap on the bed for awhile. She started pulling out dresses and ended up burying Lini in cloth, who squeaked in displeasure. "Sorry sweetie," Tesilyn said while uncovering her, but got distracted by the finery strewn over the bed, "Oh! Here's a dress and it's a perfect color!" Frieda came in right then and had Lini uncovered and cuddled in her arms saying something about Doom and baths.

While she was dressing, she and Frieda talked like girls going to their first important dance. Teislyn was glad that Frieda wanted to be her roommate and was thinking of asking if she'd come visit Veta after this was over. She'd probably enjoy the relaxing atmosphere and touring the academy while sitting in some of the classes Teislyn taught. That would have to wait until everything was over though, no time to ask now.

She spun around in front of the mirror admiring the way she looked in the green and blue dress. "Now what do to with my hair?", Teislyn thought outloud. She excused herself and went out of the room in search of another female on the team to get their advice. Finding Dace and Sasha getting ready in another room, she knocked and entered. "Hey you two, I have a question. Ummm...I can't figure out what to do with my hair. Any suggestions? Up or down? I'm so nervous, what if they don't like me?" Teislyn couldn't stop rambling because of her nerves. Sasha considered for a bit, "Both would look good on you," she interrupted. "But maybe you could wear it up for a change? And don't worry! I'm sure the fairies will love you. I've heard they are really nice!" "Thanks for the advice, I'll get out of your hair now." Teislyn laughed at her joke when she realized what she said.

She turned on her heel and ran out the door, she was almost back at her room when she ran into Eren causing them to collide. "Oomph, sorry about that little brother, I'm just so excited to go to court! Nice outfit, maybe add some color too." she suggested as she smoothed out her dress and walked past him to where Frieda was waiting with Doom and Lini. She quickly curled and pinned up her hair, left some tendrils hanging for a soft feminine look, and put some pearls and flowers in for the finishing touch. Adding some makeup, she was done. She grinned at Frieda after hugging her and put a brush to Lini's fur, and a little bit of lavender to mingle with the woodsy smell. Teislyn put the brush away and admired the weasel girl, "You look beautiful! Looks like we are all ready, let's see if the others are too."

eren the ranger isn't thrilled in the least about attending the Seelie Court

Eren had no desire to step foot in another court in his life, but, sadly, it was out of his control at the moment. A childhood spent in courts and proper attire definitely prepared him for this moment, though. The real problem at the moment to be addressed was--his hair. He couldn't clearly recall the last time he had attempted to comb out the snarls and tangles, probably sometime just after the death of his family. The wolves he associated with didn't exactly judge a person for messy hair or grubby hands like humans are wont to do. Sighing heavily, he pulled his clothes out of his travel bag and laid them out before grabbing a comb and a bottle of extra-strength detangler and set to work.

After what seemed like ages, Eren's hair was straight and neat, practically shining...or maybe it actually was shining from all the detangler he used. Either way, his hair would no longer be a disgrace to show to the queen of the Seelie. He quickly got dressed, not even bothering to change his pants; they were not dirty anyway. He flicked his hair from his eyes, opened the door to his room and promptly crashed into Teislyn the bard. He bowed silently and stepped aside, mumbling an apology. He would wait for the rest of his party downstairs. Since his party consisted mostly of females, he imagined that he would be kept waiting for a very long time. He signed and took the stairs down to the Gearloose Goose. Maybe they had some good vodka he could wait with.

Alphonse the Warrior is on a secret mission Alphonse wasn't about to get caught up in any politics, this whole damn Seelie/Unseelie conflict sounded like a lot of hot air from a bunch of windbags. He didn't mind fine clothes, fine dress and stately mannerisms, but not in the middle of a conflict for crying out loud. Boneriders were attacking citizens, his sword was itching in his hand. There were heads to sever, guts to spill. Let the others pay their respects, he wouldn't begrudge them, all except that damn witch mage. He shook his head to clear his thinking, he would deal with her later, if he had to.

Alphonse waited under the pile of brush on the outskirts of Bordertown until the sky was finally dark. He was going to find out what was really going on around here.
Frieda climbed up to the Wayward Squirrel and made her way to the room she shared with Teislyn. She was concerned about her wardrobe, she hadn't planned on dressing up for meeting royalty, much less Faerie royalty. All she had brought were traveling clothes, the pair of cutoffs and the tank-top she was currently wearing, which were filthy from helping build the transport. The only other clothing she had were two sets of healer's habits; Teutonic, very un-stylish and utilitarian garb that reflected her Black Forest heritage. Her wardrobe was not exactly fitting attire to meet the fair folk. (Unless they were also Germanic...which she doubted.)

She was pleased to see that Teislyn was there, maybe she could answer some questions. They exchanged pleasantries and chit-chatted about the upcoming visit to the Seelie Court. Frieda liked the bard a lot and felt that there was a strong friendship forming already. Teislyn was very friendly, level-headed and had come to her defense with calm strength when Aicha had spoken wickedly to her. Frieda also loved music and

Just returning from putting the last finishing touches on the team's glider, Dana (and Wyn!) joined her team at the table with Winton and the others. A lost son, okay, Puzzles, okay, Tanaka and Larianne mini war, okay... but dressing up? Ohhhhhh no, could she pretend to not have heard that? Dana was good at installing engine parts, not wearing dresses and looking amazing - that was Nancy's part! Hope these Seelie guys weren't too well educated on human fancy clothing styles...

As the Fallen Angels listen intently, Laurie takes her trusty No.2 from behind her ear and starts recording everything Winton, Kelian and Tanaka have to say.

Ertrude hands the contest entry to Atrueheart who showed the puzzle to the rest of the . Focused only on the task at hand, Laurie completely missed whatever transpired between Larianne and Tanaka - until the shriek that is. No one could miss that.

The others try not to laugh outright and Laurie just shakes her head. "So odd, those two" she mumbles, turning her attention back to the puzzle and suddenly busts out laughing. Embarrassed, she quickly explained herself.

"I have one of these myself, believe it or not. For years I sang White Lion's song "Wait" wrong.

Wait, Wait.. I never had a chance to lie to you.
And I only wanna say I love you one more time..

Talli snickers at Laurie's confession and goes a little pink. "One of those I know for sure," she smirks. "I used to sing the wrong words on purpose because I thought they were funny." She looks down at her faithful fluffy companion and scratches behind her ears a bit, smiling. "We like to sing, don't we?" Moriel tilted her head slightly and then gave a short woof, that sounded a bit more like a huff. She giggled at the wolf's response, slipped her some of her own breakfast, and turned her attention back to Laurie. Humming along to some songs, she offers up some lyrics she's heard as they come up.

Raider's Folly Chapter 4: Rp, cos we couldn't help ourselves Post 1 of 4

Quote by Raven
The vehicle was finished and now we had to answer yet another puzzle in an attempt to win tickets—great. After naps and a little down time, everyone was to meet back in our room to work on the puzzle. Reaper had already arrived, so the person knocking on the door was Paddy, holding a lot of neon pink wool. I beamed. I was of no help to anyone with the songs, everything I knew was old and either drow or elfish songs. If we were going to work on this puzzle, might as well learn my new hobby at the same time, right? I had been saying the word over and over again so I wouldn’t forget the name of it. “I got some pritting swords like you told me to buy,” I said. I retrieved them from the night stand on my side of the bed and showed her the pointy thin rods. Die reclined on the bed watching with what looked like a bemused smile on his face.

Quote by Reaper
After a very short nap (honestly, was sleep too much to ask for around here?), I headed back to Raven and Die’s room. Paddy still hadn’t arrived which made for some awkward feelings for me, but I sat down and waited, hoping whatever the puzzle was, it would be something I helped with. As soon as the werewolf got there, she started showing Raven how to knit – honestly I didn’t know what the drow wanted to learn that for, but it was her life. As they started their own lesson, I cocked an eyebrow at Die, asking if he felt like working on the puzzle since Paddy and Raven clearly didn’t want to…however, when he showed it to me, he’d already filled in all the blanks. Huh. Apparently I was here for a whole lot of nothing today, maybe I could slip in a quick drink and a longer nap before we had to head out to the Seelie court.

Quote by Paddy
I tried not to laugh. Only Raven could think knitting needles were swords, but I didn&;t want to put her off the idea of knitting.
"Ok," I said, sitting on the floor, "let&;s get started, shall we?" I handed her a ball of wool. "You need to make a slip knot in that.... and no doubt your knots are better than mine, so I&;m not going to explain how to achieve that. Now just hold your swords like this, and weave the wool between them."

Quote by Raven
I sat on the floor and took the wool and made a slip knot. At least I was very familiar with making knots. I tried to follow her movements with the wool but I kept fumbling with the needles. I couldn’t make the loops she was spinning onto her needles. This “cast on” part was not at all fun. Finally I got the amount of loops she wanted on the bloody needle and started trying to weave the wool. When the first hard won loop fell off I swore. By the time the fifth loop fell off several of my runes were starting to glow. “Why won’t this bloody wool cooperate?” I growled.

Quote by Paddy
Not only were her stitches falling from the needles, but they were mostly falling from the wrong end. Once Raven&;s runes were glowing, I decided that for everyone&;s safety, a new plan would be needed.
"Here, try this," I said, handing over a small piece of chewing gum, "stick it onto the wrong end of the &;sword&; and we&;ll try again." I just hoped it&;d stay stuck for long enough so that she could get the hang of knitting flat, without any of us being impaled on the end of her needles!

Quote by Raven
I looked at the little block of rubber and rammed it on the rod. I commenced with trying to knit, but I lost several more stitches. The rubber block thing fell off and Jhun and Eolus started whacking it across the floor like they were playing hockey. My runes started sparking as I rescued the stitches. I managed to save some that fell off, only to lose more in the process. “Damn it,” I said and threw the needle across the room where it lodged into the wall. I stood up, runes getting warmer by the second. I muttered as I pulled the makeshift dart out of the wall with a jerk. “Maybe I am not cut out for knitting,” I said angrily.

Quote by Paddy
I ducked as the needle went flying past my head. How on earth was I going to help Raven get the hang of this, without turning everyone around her into pincushions?
"Would it be easier if I started it off for you, so you can try knitting the second row" I asked, "or is there a way of using your magic to duplicate what I&;ve knitted, just so you can get a head start?"

Quote by Reaper
I stood, sparing a glance at Raven as she had a fit and tossed a knitting needle into the wall. “Looks like we’re actually all set here, so I’m going to go rest a bit more before we have to head out tonight.” I slipped around the wolf and drow, and headed out the door and downstairs. The Goose was right next door, one drink wouldn’t take me very long. I headed in and ordered, skin prickling oddly. Something was…off. I glanced around trying to figure out what it was that was making me uneasy, but I couldn’t pinpoint the source. As the bartender came back with my drink, my nose caught the faintest trace of sulfur. Shit. I’d smelled that when I first got up in the morning too, only then I’d thought it was sense memory, left over from my dream. If I smelled it now, fully awake, then that most definitely was not a coincidence. And I was pretty damned sure I knew why I could smell it. I tossed back my drink and waited. I didn’t really have time for this today, but if I tried to ignore it, it would only make things worse. The smell was slowly getting stronger, but I refused to give in to the urge to turn around again, instead signalling the bartender for another round. Just as he brought the second drink, I felt the air behind me stir, giving me just enough time to not tense up before the hand hit my shoulder.

Raider's Folly Chapter 4: Rp, cos we couldn't help ourselves Post 2 of 4

Quote by Die
Die decided that the best thing he could do was sprawl across his bed with the puzzles in hand and watch the disaster about to unfold. He had no idea why Raven wanted to learn to knit, he was just grateful she hadn’t dragged him into it- yet. He shot Raven look then quickly went back to filling in answers, some a little racier than others if truth were known. He was about done when Reaper arrived first, followed by Paddy a few minutes later.

Honestly it was not his fault he was bored so he had completed the little puzzle without a thought to asking for help, his gaze flicking from the paper to the pair on the floor. No surprise that Raven was getting frustrated, or that one of those needles ended up in the wall. “We’ll have to pay for that you know,” he muttered, sounding a little grumbly and out of sorts.

Much like Reaper apparently when she asked if they could work on the puzzle and he showed her it was done. Just like that she decided to get up and leave with a flimsy excuse. How much could one person fucking sleep? It was getting old and fast and pretty soon he was going to get fed up and they’d fucking have it out.

Quote by Raven
I was irritable enough at the wool, but with Reaper leaving and then Paddy ducking, I was really having issues controlling my temper. As if I would hit Paddy. I was very adept with weapons, having used them for 250 some odd years. “Even if I could do that with my magic,” I said icily, “which I cannot, I wouldn’t do it. I will defeat this wool if it kills me.” I looked over at Die who didn’t even seem remotely surprised at my little knitting needle dart—I figured his grumpiness had nothing to do with my temper. “Well, it’s a good thing I’m rich. I paid for all the damages in the last hotel,” I snarked with a smirk, “might as well add another hotel to the list. We could visit hotels and see which ones I can destroy and keep a tally.” I went back to learning to knit. Why did I want to learn this? Because I wanted something to pass the time that wasn’t violent. I wanted to broaden my horizons and it looked relaxing. I imagined myself beside the fireplace with my knitting and Die reading to me. But for now, I fumbled and cursed as my runes flared wildly. It took me a good half an hour but I finally got the first row finished. “HA!” I said, making everyone jump, “take that you evil wool.” I looked up at Paddy. “Now what?”

Quote by Paddy
I knew Raven wouldn&;t aim the needles at me on purpose, but I had a sudden memory of my Uncle flinging a crochet hook across the room when he couldn&;t get to grips with crocheting a gift for my Auntie, and his aim was a little less tuned than Raven&;s.
I wasn&;t expecting her to get the hang of the first row so quickly, if I was honest; I thought this could take weeks to get this far.

"Now, you need to swap the needles over, so the one with the stitches on, is in your left paw.... er left hand, then do the same as the first row, weaving the wool through the stitches to make the second row."
Raven stared at me. "It&;s easier than it sounds, trust me," I replied, hoping that she was going to pick this up nice and quickly.

Quote by Raven
I glared at Paddy. “I have to do it all over again?” This would require lots of practice. Paddy gasp as I pulled the wool off the needles and started over again. If I had to repeat all, I might as well start over and get proficient at casting on too. It proved harder than I thought and I finally decided I had had enough for the day. I wrapped the wool onto the ball and poked the needles through it. I would not give up, even if I turned out to hate the pastime I would at least learn how to do it. I stood up and unconsciously scratched Paddy behind the ear. “Thank you for teaching me,” I said with a little bow. “I shall practice and demand another session once I can get the first part better.

Quote by Paddy
"Wait" I shouted, but Raven had already pulled the stitches off the needles. "Tell you what, how about tomorrow I teach you knitting in the round - there&;s no need to swap the needles over, and you could try and knit yourself a protective case for one of your swords, maybe?"

Quote by Raven
I shook my head. “No, I’ll learn this first.” My eyes narrowed, unsure if she was joking. In a very Die-like brow raise I replied, “I hardly think as sharp as my swords are that a case would be practical.” I had another idea what I wanted to make but I had no intention of telling anyone in the room that I wanted to make a blanket for Die and I to snuggle in together. There was plenty of time for me to learn and I was in no rush.

Quote by Paddy
I was surprised at her response, as one of the things my Uncle had finally managed to create, was a protective case for his blades. I had no idea what he&;d done to the yarn, but the blades never sliced through it.

"Ok," I shrugged, "whatever you prefer, we&;ll stick with that. Keep hold of the wool though - you might want to have a practise, as long as Jhun doesn&;t start playing with the yarn."

Raider's Folly Chapter 4: Rp, cos we couldn't help ourselves Post 3 of 4

Quote by Raven
I wasn’t worried about Jhun playing with the wool—he had Eolus to help get into trouble with. Honestly those two were a handful. I watched Paddy leave. We all agreed to meet up at the Gearloose Goose later before going to the Seelie Court. I sighed. I was very unhappy about having to go there. So far, only Die knew about me becoming the drow queen and I was keen on keeping it that way. However, there was the off chance that someone would know I was royalty—either the exiled princess or the newly crowned queen. It took me awhile to find the right clothing that allowed me to look the part with being subtle enough that if someone didn’t realise I was royalty it wouldn’t be a big deal. Finally I was done. Very grumpy, but ready. I came out of the bathroom, dressed in a blue corseted dress with pearls adorned. My hair had been carefully pinned up—with a headpiece that looked crown-ish but not overly so. Silver shoes, a bracelet, my ever present earrings and a necklace and I was complete….well I had weapons hidden in my dress but no one could see those. I started tracing a few runes on my arm—a new nervous habit. “I really don’t want to do this,” I admitted not looking at Die.

Quote by Die
Luckily he was drawn away from his sudden irritation and Raven practically screamed her triumph, sending poor Eolus under the bed where he peered out and growled… or sort of growled, sounded more like a squeak if you asked him. Sometimes he wasn’t sure if his little demon pet was a rabbit, a monkey, a cat or some unknown creature never seen before. Well, yeah, probably that. “Holy fuck, give a guy some warning. I almost had to change myself.” His tone was snarky but this time he made sure Raven saw the soft teasing in his eyes- mingled with silent laughter.

What? He could enjoy her fit of pique if he wanted. Maybe since he knew her- more intimately, he was not afraid even as her runes sparked. They didn’t worry him; they would do their job in keeping her magic grounded. Someday maybe Paddy would realize that. At least Eolus was mollified when he had a new toy to play with in the form of gum and he had to laugh, a deep rumble that he quickly turned into a cough as a glare was shot his way.

He was innocent. Lalalala- innocent as a child- a demon child maybe hyped on candy and let loose in a paint store. When they finally stopped he bid Paddy goodbye then slipped up to Raven, giving her a quick squeeze that lifted her a few inches off the floor. “You did well though the poor wall suffered,” he smirked then set her down, silenced her protests with a kiss before shoving her toward the bathroom. “No time to yell at me we have to get dressed. Our ‘kids’ will have to stay here and entertain themselves,” he grinned, nodding to Eolus and Jhun.

Once she disappeared he set about diving into his bag, which seemed almost as bottomless as his potion back, and began tossing things on the bed. Dressy but not too dressy. He eyed his choices then quickly disrobed and dressed, just settling the long leather jacket over his shoulders when Raven appeared. He stared then flushed a little before offering a wry smile. “You look lovely, I hope I am not underdressed,” he mused, then quickly made an attempt to tame his hair. No amount of steak would get Eolus to leave him alone so he gave up, offered Raven his arm then led her from the room to meet the others.

Quote by Raven
I loved that Die was amused by my temper just as much as he was by my joy. I was getting more comfortable with his little grumpy way of saying things. His deep laugh made me smile too. It was so different now that I actually paid attention to the man. I ignored him almost completely the last adventure at the squirrel—barely saying a few words to him. Now I watched the way he moved, his smile, laugh—everything. He picked me up from the floor and I squeaked a surprised protest. He ate my words with a kiss and I was totally content until I heard the world “kids.” I knew he meant the pets, but it sent my world spinning. My chest got tight and I felt woozy. Kids? Seriously, I had never thought, never wanted, never crossed my mind about children. I was very grateful he shoved me into the bathroom—so I could gather myself together. The idea of a child had me hyperventilating. Would I be like my mother? Would a child of mine be a pure drow? Would I bring evil into the world? Could I be maternal? I would like to think I could be like Die’s mother but the other possibilities sent me for a tail spin. We would have to have a very very long talk about kids later… hopefully much later.

When I came out Die was dressed. “You look dapper, my dear,” I replied as he took my arm, “but if you want to undress later for me, I’m okay with that.” I snickered at his blush, feeling a little more at ease. Though I was still terrified inside about the Seelie Court and the word “kids.” But for now it was time to go meet up with the ladies.

Raider's Folly Chapter 4: Rp, cos we couldn't help ourselves Post 4 of 4
The situation in the Goose didn’t leave me much time to get ready, but I found something mostly suitable for a fancy occasion and tossed it on, twisting my hair and letting a bit of heat push out from my palms to give it a slight wave. I glanced at myself in my room’s mirror and decided this was probably as good as it was going to get. I nodded at Spike, who would not be going with me, and headed out to wait in front of the Gearloose Goose for the others.
Quote by Paddy
I was so grateful that Die was able to finish that puzzle - I&;d had a quick look at it before teaching Raven to knit.... or should I say attempting to teach Raven, and couldn&;t figure anything out at all. I left Raven and Die and headed back to my room to try and find something that would look suitable to wear. Ivan was sitting on the bed staring at the book Raven had given me; I really was going to have to find time to read that, to find out just what Ivan was learning! "Anything in the book about picking a suitably formal outfit for the Seelie Court, Ivan?" I asked, looking at the clothes I&;d brought with me.

I tried on the Gear Draped Steam Gown, but something about it just didn&;t feel right. If we had to look our best, this just wasn&;t going to work at all. Rummaging through lots of more casual and really unsuitable items, I sighed, this was going to be harder work than I&;d thought. Why couldn&;t we just dress normally for a change? Just as I was giving up hope of finding something suitable, Ivan flew over, and landed in my pile of clothes. Dipping his head into the pile, he drew out a dress I&;d forgotten I owned, and dropped it onto my foot.
I was more than a little hesitant, as it&;s the first time any item of clothing had been picked out for me by a dragon, but I hadn&;t exactly been successful, so what did it hurt. "Ok," I said, "I&;ll try this one on then, shall I?"

I wondered if the Gold Ruffled and Bustled Ball Gown would look a little too formal, but once I had it on, it seemed to work really well. I drew my hair up into a bun for a change, just to stop it flapping around my face, and added in a small barrette I found on the floor. "You&;re a star" I told Ivan, before heading out to meet the others. Maybe there really was a section on how to help your owner dress for the Seelie Court in that book after all!
