Anyone find anything that really works long-term for foot pain? I overpronate (walk mostly on the outside edges of my feet) and it causes my feet to really ache by the end of the day, mainly my right foot. Thankfully, I have a desk job now, so I spend a lot of time sitting. But I'd really like to start walking, then jogging, and hopefully running soon, just for my health and to lose a little weight. I've tried soaking my feet in epsom salt and hot water, I've tried the creams/rubs like Aspercreme, I've tried icing right after I walk...nothing seems to work. And I refuse to take pain pills because I want my kidneys to be happy. Anyways...any homeopathic/natural remedies would be great if you know of something that works!
Just thought I'd post this here to get hands-on stories from the good people of Subeta before I go randomly slogging through the internets.
It sounds like it would be helpful in the long run to see a podiatrist.
I love Lush products and I hear good things about their Volcano Foot Mask and Fair Trade Foot Lotion (the second ingredient is arnica) from my friend who's on her feet all day as a nurse.
Tiger Balm and Salonpas are the cure-alls in my family for muscle aches.

I have fasciitis in both feet. When I stand on my feet for work, I can barely walk after I sit down. I had to see a podiatrist and she recommended customer orthotics. They're not cheap, so I'm currently saving up. If that doesn't work, I will need shock wave treatment on my feet-again, that's not cheap.
Good luck!
I am the total opposite of you - I pronate inwards quite severely. Whats helped me the most is finding sneakers that are designed for my foot shape - I know they have sneakers specifically for people who pronate inwards or outwards. I get such tired, sore feet, when I wear things other than my sneakers. I went to this shoe shop where they measure your feet, get you to run on a treadmill, and watch you walk to see what level or type of support you need, and they fitted me for the best shoe possible. I would go into a lot of shoe shops and try a lot of shoes, ask for the employees to assist you. When you have feet outside of the norm I think support really helps.
The advice on the pronation shoes is really good, much better than mine, especially since you aren't even on your feet.
One of my family friends got her daughter, who wins dance competitions now, fitted for special shoes when she was just starting to walk because she had similar problems.
I'm posting because one of my students dropped his lunch thermos on my toe and now I can't put any weight on it. I thought it was a bit ironic. At least I have sick days to use up before this school year is over.

I love Lush products too! If that's the store I'm thinking about, that is...where they're entirely Vegan and Organic? I don't get there very often though because money.
My mom has plantar fascitis so I know how painful that can be. I'm thinking about seeing a podiatrist, but I'll have to call my insurance first and see if they'll pay for it. They did cover that shock wave therapy for my wrist injury though...so maybe they will for my feets.
I'm going to have to do that as soon as I save up some money. I know those kinds of shoes are not cheap. I'm assuming I'll need to save about $200.
Gah, you don't realize how much you rely on your toes until something happens to one of the darn things, amirite?
That's the one. I spend more there than I would like to admit but I get a lot of use out of their things.
I ended up icing my toe a couple times and soaked my foot in cold water once I got home from work. I've actually got Tiger Balm on it right now. [edit] I've got a fracture and crutches for the first time in my life now.
