I know this isn't the place to ask and I should go to a vet, but I don't get paid until next week. I need help, if any one can find out what's wrong with him. About... the beginning of May my fiance and I left him home all weekend by himself because we had to go on this trip. He was properly fed and hydrated all weekend. Well when we got back I can't remember when exactly I saw it but he had this strange red mark on his lip. I thought he played with a bug and it bit him, he didn't seem like it irritated him either. Well it healed, but it moved to the other side of his mouth? I was like okay, maybe he's allergic to something. Gnats? Pollen? And it healed once again, so I was happy. Then a few days later it was on his cheek and now as of yesterday it's a red bump on his nose. Like I said, I should have went to the vet sooner, but I made an appt today for a visit after next week, when I get paid. I'm just wondering if it's allergies? Or something worse. Cancer, rodent ulcers, I need to stop googling skin lesions on cat's. here's a picture click
I just gave him a bath in case it would help clean out the wound? He's an inside cat, never been outside... the window says open once and a while and he looks out the screen. No mites or fleas.
Hi, .
Do the wounds weep or swell at all? Is there blood or pus? Does he react to them being touched, such as hissing or yowling or trying to bite or slap? Does he scratch or paw at them or otherwise try to rub them on things? Do you feel any lumps where the sores are, either in their precise location or in the general area?
Sorry for the barrage of questions; it just helps narrow things down. Good on you for getting him to the vet as soon as you can. I know how it is to have an animal suddenly get sick when money is tight.
please send me any/all and so I can keep them safe
Thankyou for not judging me! I love him so much, I ready care for animals, so this is really bothering me. Ok so to answer your questions no he doesn't. He will let me and my fiance touch the wounds. He won't meow, hiss, anything to act like they are irritating him at all (simply put, non painful?) He doesn't try to scratch them. They don't swell or weep... just red? Possibly blood? Since it scabbed sorta? But I haven't seen any blood leaking. After his bath, I applied aloe(fresh from leaf, since I know it has healing properties)??? The smaller lesion is now just pink, not scabbed like the picture. They are just pinkish now. I got worried because this time (unlike the others) the one on his nose is like a lump, hard kinda.. but like raised (make sense?) The ones on his lip, before they healed, were ulcerish almost, reminded me of a canker sore, but not white. Does that make sense? They healed fast, like a week... I almost thought it was herpes lmao! Cat herpes? But after appearing the third time on his face now, like it's spreading, I was like ok not a spider bite.. or herpes, since it affects the eye mostly. Gnats were in our apartment for a couple days so I thought he had a reaction to them possibly.. like they were coming in and hanging out by his food so I stopped giving him wet and dry mix, now just one of the other so it doesn't sit there all day, the gnats are gone, been gone. He almost looked scared to eat his food before I switched, he would just stare at it. I haven't changed his diet.. except it's one or the other now. everything is the same since he had been here, except for the season lol! He's not even a year old yet. I thought then it's allergies because mine were the worst this year since I was in elementary school. So I don't know, I hope it's something treatable, not like kitty leukemia or something, I don't have the financial resources if it's serious, I'm so scared. Thanks for replying it made me feel a bit better.
No worries! Just be prepared if it takes a turn for the worse to consider a pet ER. I strongly doubt it'd come to that, from the sounds of it, since he overall seems unbothered and unhindered by them. But if something DOES happen, like frequent vomiting or the wounds indeed looking infected or runny poops, that would be when urgent care might be required.
As is, I'm personally leaning towards it being an allergic reaction. Perhaps he got into something while you guys were out? It might be worth it to inspect your cupboards and foods for little chewed kitty holes to have an idea if he has indeed eaten something unexpected. If you have any plants in the house, check them too for torn or pulled leaves/bark.
The great(?) thing about cats is their flesh wounds heal freakishly fast, like little Wolverines or something. This can be a problem if it closes up and you don't get a chance to clean it, as that could lead to an abscess or an infection. It happened to my cat when she got an undetected scratch that wouldn't have seemed like a big deal at the time, but it quickly began to swell with gunk that was beyond disgusting to deal with. So on that note, I def stress keeping it clean like it sounds like you've been doing! Just if any appear open or wet, a little peroxide diluted with water should do the trick.
He should be okay until you can get to the vet. Hopefully, they'll be able to determine what the issue is and get your little man some medication or diet changes to help him out!

Alright Thankyou so much!
Also if anyone feels inclined to add any more to this I would appreciate it! I only found one post describing symptoms like he is on the internet, and they never find out what it was the vet just charged them 200$ and gave some ointment, that didn't help. Uh so if anyone's cat had this I would appreciate to hear if you found the cause? I'll post what the vet says when I go, too!
Do you have houseplants? That's the only thing I can think of - that he might've gotten into something like that and it gave him a reaction. Or maybe a new cleaning fluid/spray/etc. you used before you left? I have two cats and they've had random things like that happen, but it always clears up. Which is really good because I'm broke too, lol.
hmmm I have one house plant (the aloe) He knocked it over when we first got him, so ever since then I've kept it outta his reach. Everything is outta his reach, it's hard because we live in an apartment, lol. That "we cant have anything nice syndrome" because he will jump everywhere! Lol. He can't go on the counters or reach the plant. It could have been the draino I used on the sink, but that was a month and a half ago... one thing My fiance has nitro cars (google them) and he's been working on them more??? Because it's nice outside, possibly he got into something he shouldn't have like the nitro engine thingy
The cars were intact, before the summer, on a bookshelf tv stand thing, but now they are on the floor in pieces... We'll clean it up and seal it all up again and see if he breaks out again? Hmmmmm thanks! :)
There is actually feline herpes, haha! It's not at all like what humans get though, it's more of a respiratory thing, and since you didn't mention your cat sneezing around the house or anything like that, I seriously doubt he has that.
I've never seen anything like this. I'm technically an animal health tech, but I'm really rusty, and it's hard to diagnose things without seeing them in person. It might be a bit of a reaction to something he ate/got in to, but it's hard to tell. I always figure if the cat seems unbothered by it, and is still behaving normally and eating, drinking and using the bathroom I wouldn't be too concerned. Still, taking him to the vet is a good idea, just so you can have some peace of mind. :)
Thankyou As evil as this sounds I hope it doesn't clear up by the time I take him to the vet, it's healing fast (as usual) and it would be good for the vet to see it in person. Lol
Hahaha! I totally know what you mean. Even if it does clear up, however, seeing a vet about it is still probably a good idea. Also if it is all healed and such, bring that photo, just so the vet has an idea of what happened. Better to have it checked and it be nothing, than leave it and have things get worse.
And you have the picture you took if he clears up before his appointment! Just put it on your phone and show it to the vet if he's no longer sporting any visible spots or sores.

Just to ease some of your fears, I really REALLY don't think it's cancer. Cancer wouldn't disappear after a few days, then move over to another spot, disappear from there, etc. The disease simply does not work like that.
And to further confirm what said, yes, there is cat herpes.
It almost looks like a physical trauma to me. Like he keeps scratching himself or rubbing hotspots onto himself. Which in turn, could be the result of an allergy.
Thanks guys, super cleaned the apartment today. Nitro cars are put up and I stopped using this febreeze spray to see if his face clears up.
