I need some advice here. I have some crazy hair. It is long, it is curly, it is frizzy beyond belief. What is the best way for me to get those beautiful curls in a short amount of time?
I have a 6.5 month old, so I am definitely not rolling around in free time ;)

@ Ampharos You could try using hair mousse! If you work mousse into your hair while it's still damp, your hair will be less frizzy when it dries and the natural curls in your hair will hold longer and be more defined. You could even try scrunching your hair a bit when you put the mousse in to help emphasize the curls.

Thank you!
Will I need to blowdry it or anything? I am very unfamiliar with this! I never really viewed it as important until I realized I look SO much younger than I am due to the lack of makeup/adult clothing/etc.
I get some very weird looks in public.
I don't think you'd need to use a hair dryer. The mousse will just help the hair look nicer while it dries naturally. The great thing about mousse is that it should only take 60 seconds to kind of scrunch it into your hair after a shower.
You can try looking up some tutorials on YouTube about how/when/where to apply it. :)

Thank you!
I thinkI will have to do that! Thanks! My fiance just told me he would rather I have straight hair. Well. Sucks for him. Mine is thick AND comes to my tailbone. That's just a lot of trouble.
My hair is curly and frizzy as fuck. I use three different kinds of mousse and they work out really well, you just need to make sure the hair is wet when you use them:
Frizz Ease, Tresemme climate protection, tresemme humidity control extrahold
Comb out your hair when it's wet to remove all the knots, then apply the mousse. DO NOT comb the curls! Trying to brush your hair will only make the hair frizzy and split the ends. I only comb my hair with a comb before I am about to wash it to take out all the knots. I will finger comb it in the morning after I have slept on it, re wet and re-apply the mousse the next day
I feel stupid for asking this, but do you use all three at once? I have definitely learned my lesson about brushing out curly hair! Especially here recently. It has been so curly when it dries it is ridiculous.
....yes, yes I do xD
One is just fine really, but my hair is so sensitive to humidity the smallest amount of moisture makes it frizz up so I like to use the frizz ease then lock it in with the humidity control and firm hold. So long as the hair is still wet, it won't feel hard either and it'll last all day even when I sweat.
That is pretty impressive, actually. I used to play with mousse when I was in middle school. It was in a white can. I think Pantene or something? I don't know. Point is, I did something wrong and my hair would always end up hard as a rock. I have been scared of using it since. :(
I've never tried Pantene but there are a lot of bad ones out there. Literally as soon as you jump out of the shower, comb out your hair and apply the mousse. Even if you put too much and it feels a little hard when it dries, you can always add water and it will remove some. I like mousse a lot better than hair gel because it doesn't flake when it dries and won't leave your hair hard to work.
I would suggest a curl defining creme. Even if you don't have 'curls' per say, it will still help define your waves and help keep the frizz down. Also, I would suggest using a shampoo and conditioner that doesn't have any sulfates or parabens (wax) in it. Stick to something that has as many natural ingredients as you can. Also, something with argan oil in it might help, but if you have a nut allergy, don't use anything with argan! I would also suggest a hair mask, something that you leave on for 5 minutes or so and then rinse out. I just started using one once a week and it makes my hair like silk. The one I have is from Dove.
I think you need a more moisturizing shampoo and conditioner as well as some kind of deep conditioning product once a week.
I have permed hair and I use the R&B Hair Moisturizer from Lush. I rub a nickel-sized amount of the cream in my hands and use it all over my ends after I've washed my hair. I like Biosilk Silk Therapy serum too but I don't use both products at the same time.
Bumble and bumble's Hairdresser's Invisible Oil has rave reviews and their new Surf Infusion spray sounds like something that may work for you.
I always air-dry after using a microfiber Turbie Twist knockoff to get my hair from wet to damp. I read here that maintaining curls and waves with a regular terry cloth towel is too drying for them. That article also says a long-sleeved t-shirt is made of the right material and is the right size and shape for a turban. I used to use the Brilliant Glossing Cream from Frederic Fekkai which I think the woman in the photo tutorial is using.
tl;dr My suggestions are for a more moisturizing shampoo and conditioner, a deep conditioning treatment once a week, a cream or serum product post-wash, and to dry with a t-shirt not a towel.

It looks like we have the exact same hair type and mine is also down to my butt. I use Herbal Essences Totally Twisted shampoo/conditioner because it smells amazing and is super cheap, which is kind of essential considering how much hair we have :P I have tried the Curl Boosting Mousse from the same line and while I did like it and it didn't make my hair stiff/crunchy, I don't find it necessary with my current hair routine. I wash my hair every 2-4 days at night and I towel it "dry" as best as I can and immediately put it in a high bun, and keep it in a high bun while I sleep. Then when I get up in the morning I'll put it in a braid for a few hours, and then let it loose to finish air drying. On days where I don't wash my hair, I'll just put it in a braid before bed (you could also put it in a high bun if you don't like sleeping on your braid). I absolutely do not brush or even comb my hair unless I'm about to wash my hair or straighten it. Otherwise the curls get loose and it immediately frizzes up into a giant triangle.
It's been hot and muggy where I am so I'm wondering how things have been going with your hair. :)

akhbisfg subeta freaked out on me and double posted, sorry
Your hair looks a lot like mine. I cut mine short so I didn't have to deal with it as much. :I Anyway, TIGI Ego Boost does nice things for humidity and frizz. I personally use curl creme over mousse (mousse just feels icky and drying to me, urgh). I like these ones for hold x x, this one for refreshing curls x, and this one for high-humidity days x. I usually use a diffuser on mine; I let it mostly air-dry with the product in, scrunching it occasionally, and diffuse it when it's just damp. It gives it some nice oomph.
This is exactly what I do with my hair and my curls hold for quite awhile. :)
