I thought this movie was pretty good. Very action packed. Only wanted to see it because of Tom Hardy, love him! I was pretty disappointed that he didn't have a lot of action scenes. Charlize Theron was bad ass, she seemed more like the main character to me.

What are your thoughts?

What a day. What a lovely day!

I could go on for so long about this movie, I really could. I went into this movie suspicious and sure I wouldn't like it, because really? A movie about a bunch of whacked-out crazies in the desert playing gang wars with jacked up cars? When we saw the trailer, my friend said "I'm so excited for that!" and I turned to her with this look on my face like "you have GOT to be kidding."

But my local movie theater does a five-dollar discount show on particular days, so I thought to myself "well, the pictures I've seen of the desert look gorgeous. I'll go for the desert views." That, and the movie was getting good reviews.

Totally blew me away.

It's not the best movie out there. I rolled my eyes and guffawed at some parts because at its core, it's still a big dumb action movie, but what Miller DID in this big dumb action movie is just....so good.

I didn't know until this movie what I'd been missing. Actual stunts, actual props and sets, proper camera angles, great pacing and editing, and characters that were allowed to be three dimensional and vivid and human, action that obeys the laws of physics and doesn't just look fancy and flashy because someone thought "YEAH THIS WILL LOOK GOOD IN 3D". I even love that there's very little exposition or explanation. The movie doesn't treat its audience like morons and expects them to pick up the story as they go, which I love. It shows, it doesn't tell. That makes for good storytelling.

I liked that Max is the filter through which we see the other stories. I've heard that's how it works in the earlier three movies, too. He's the bystander, the cipher, the entry by which we see into the action. Besides, he got a rather nice and crucial bit of development and character shifting in the plot himself, which was nice.

UGH SO MANY FEELS. I need to go see this again.

I came out of the theater feeling like my face had been blown off. In a good way.

I loved it so much - Tom Hardy said a long while back that he wanted a movie were the parts given to men traditionally were given to women and nobody commenting on it or acting like it was abnormal. And then he went on and did a movie just like he wanted :)

I love that its about both of them, and how they interact. I love the growth given to the characters (Max, Furiosa, Nux, the wives). I honestly just loved this movie.

I also loved that it wasn't abnormal in this world for these women to be strong.

There is so much right with this movie - and from what I remember of the others, there were always a group of actors that made up the main plot despite them being called the Mad Max movies.

yea great review and HA. Yea I loved that they got to do there own stunts, so I've heard Tom Hardy say in a interview. I really need to see the other movies, never seen them, only heard. I'm sure they're great, but probably not as good due to the technologies we have nowadays.

I can definitely see Max as the filter, didn't see it that way at first. I feel I need to know his story first though to fully understand why he was having those crazy flashbacks/hallucinations.

Overall great film, was sad to see the good people get killed off, like the older ladies and the one with the long black hair, she was gorgeous haha.

My favorite character is the Doof Warrior.

I saw the first two Mad Max films to give myself some context, since supposedly, Fury Road was supposed to be what happened between Road Warrior and Thunderdome.

I thought my body was ready.

I WAS NOT READY.

OMGIWASNOTREADY.

It's a very rare occasion for me to actually want a film to keep going once the credits rolled. My adrenaline was pumping the entire film. I loved it.

My only nitpick with the movie was just that in the first two Mad Max films, there was still some semblance of "normal" civilization hanging by a thread. With Fury Road's setting, while I understand normal civilization is nil at that point, if you take the first two movies into account, the world would not have degenerated THAT much in a couple of years. To me, it feels like Fury Road could successfully stand as its own little world, separate from the continuity of previous storylines.

Blah, blah, nitpick, blah. I FREAKING LOVED IT.

MAD MAX: FURY ROAD WAS GREAT omg omg

Okay, so usually I don't see action movies on the big screen, because I either can't keep up (and therefore tune out like wtf is happening everyone looks the same, who is beating the crap out of who??!) or because it goes on for way too long and I'm too bored. xD

Mad Max didn't have either of those problems like said.

Having not seen any of the Mad Max movies and only hearing about the character in passing, I was afraid I'd be lost, but I wasn't. The beginning was great as it felt like a descent into the utter madness of the setting itself. Furiosa was incredible. Max was incredible. Nux was incredible. I'm really glad to have seen it on the big screen. X) Almost afraid to see the originals, because seeing a different actor will be weird (though I guess that's what the people thought about Tom Hardy this time lol).

Guitar guy has a name? Sweet. xD Every time I saw him I couldn't help but laugh. Playing the guitar like that. So badass.

more detailed replies / reactions so under a spoiler..

SPOILER (click to toggle) When the old lady that talked about the plants and the seeds was wounded, my heart sank a little. :C It was sad to see the ladies getting destroyed relatively easily (but then again it were Joe's band of crazies so it would have been weird if they weren't the underdogs).

WHEN THAT WIFE GOT HIT BY JOE'S CAR. :C Brutal. I was like nah pretty people don't die in movies and then she died.

The saddest part for me was when Nux said, "Witness me," near the end. :C At first he was like heck yes VALHALLA and then he outgrew the propaganda and was actually sad to die. It was really sad to see after his transformation.

The ending quote was fabulous. "Where must we go, we who wander this wasteland, in search of our better selves?"

yess very sad and touching moments, in the beginning I just knew that Nux would end up being one of the good ones. Was upset that the crazies were suicidal though, but I guess that's why they're crazy haha

I loved it so much! It's my pick for movie of the year, and I'll be shocked if it isn't at least nominated for some Academy Awards. It should win the award for cinematography, if you ask me!

I'm kiiinda obsessed with this movie now. It's a problem.

Right? It was kind of obvious that's where it was going to go after no one killed him when there was plenty of opportunity to do so. |D

That's the thing with despair and propaganda. They got sucked into Joe's lies. :C So sad. I read the chrome sprays were meant to act like drugs like inhalants so they were probably limited in brain cells the more warring they did. |D

The Academy sucks. It gave like a dozen Oscars to shit like Gravity (edit: okay 7 but still that's a lot). I don't expect Mad Max to be noticed by them. :c It's probably too post-apocalyptic / crazy for their stuffy tastes.

Yea, glad he went out like a hero

And it would be nice to see this movie get awarded something. I got a feeling because Charlize Theron is in it, it just might win an Oscar. I would love to see Tom hardy receive an Oscar, he's amazing. He's been nominated a lot and won British awards, but I would really like to see him awarded big in the US.

I feel he should have won best actor in The Dark Night Rises and Warrior, but we'll see

Fingers and toes crossed :) (I just love him)

Well, it could always win something for best costume or soundtrack. Actually, if they don't award it for best visual effects, I'm gonna scream my eyes out.

Yeah, I loved Tom Hardy in this. ;O; He was supposed to be that understated, idk what people wanted from him?? Have you seen The Drop? Another good performance by him. :3

Ah, yes, the action / sci-fi flicks get reduced to visual effects Oscars like they couldn't possibly be any better than what they look or sound like. I can't wait until they are taken more seriously by the Academy. :c With 80% being real, not CGI, I really hope it takes visual effects as well. ;O;

I have so many feels that I can't even put them into words. ;__; I went to see the movie because I loved the original ones as a kid and I heard Fury Road was actually a feminist movie. (I'm getting sick of reboots so I expected this one to be shitty.)

And. Omfg. It was like... the 80s feel to the movie. It was so grotesque. You know how they made all these dystopian kind of films in the 80s and there was no shame in making them really gross. They'd kept that atmosphere in Fury Road. And it was like the movie was ROARING all the time, like everything was so fierce and intense. (Lol maybe it was just all the engines.)

And it got so much better all the time. Okay, I knew there would be feminist themes. I expected Furiosa to be badass and a strong female character. Which is cool, I like those kind of female characters, even though it's really tiring that it's the only type of female character we usually see in action films. BUT SHE WASN'T JUST STRONG. She was human. She had soft spots. She had feelings. And it got EVEN bETTER omfg because there were so MANY female characters, and there was so much variety in them. I'm not saying that Fury Road is a perfect feminist movie, I'm just saying that it's on the right track.

So uh pretty much the best movie I've seen in a long while.

OMG! This film... so BRILLIANT!!! I wasn't expected much about it at first, but when I saw on the Internet it was receiving rave reviews, I decided to check it out when I went to the cinema with some friends. And by gosh... it was AMAZING! The characters, the landscapes, the special effects, the road chases, the dystopian apocalyptic atmosphere, the plot, the characters - I especially loved Max and Furiosa, as well as the main villain, who was really intimidating and scary... everything worked perfectly in that film! I really wish I had it on DVD when it's released.

I seriously don't have enough words to describe how much I love this movie, which is not something I was expecting going in. I'd heard about it being a very feminist movie and that a lot of salty fanboys were calling for boycotts, and I was so horribly intrigued I immediately went to see it. And then a few more times after that. And then again a couple other times.

It's easily one of my favorite films ever, and there are so many small (and big) details that make it so: the exceptionally creative use of music, so unlike anything I've seen before--I legitimately couldn't stop talking about how it was utilized and how freaking GREAT the detail of the war drums and the Doof Warrior for a solid ten minutes after the first time I saw it; the sheer creativity of the names, but especially those of the wives--none of them are something I even remotely expected, but they fit in such a niche sort of way and I absolutely love it; Hardy as Max inhabiting an (unfortunately) traditionally female-held role of few words and little actual action for a decent portion of the beginning of the movie, while every other character aside from Nux with a proactive role in that rig is a female. Even outside of the rig, when the many mothers come in.

And Nux. Oh, Nux. I don't know if there's enough room left in my heart after how much he fills it up. The war boys in general make me go all wibbly, thinking about what we're shown and what we're left to infer about them, and it's just--

UGH.

It's so wonderful and I will never, ever shut up about it/stop trying to get every single person I know to watch it. I could talk about it for days and still not be done waxing poetic and lauding the crap out of it.

Also, I hadn't known Hardy was signed on for more. I didn't know there were going to be more. I'm possibly a little misty over this fact oh gosh how great is that???

ALL YOUR FEELS, MAN, ARE MY FEELS. ;O;

I'm kind of worried about the sequels, because Fury Road was SO amazing, you know? Like how do you even top that? Or even match that with the next one? The expectations are going to be out of this world after Fury Road. I think what was so great about this one was it happened so many decades after the last Mad Max that people didn't really know what the hell to expect. It was a big ???, which the sequels after it won't have. ;s /worried lol
