The Pirate and Islander shops were supposed to close May 10th. What's happening there?

The shops are apparently still open, and there wasn't anything in the news beyond the initial announcement two week ago. Is this still happening, or were there complications?

An announcement of some sort might be nice.

We were actually going to post on that thread today (like I'm talking with Ariel about it right now haha)! We've been discussing (more like debating) a few changes about how we want to work the new shop to come (using the suggestions from people).

We are going to have the shops closed down soon so that we can also provide information on the changes people can expect! :)

We've combed over the thread a lot because there are some great suggestions on it and it's changed a lot of what we originally planned to do with the shop (which means changing a lot of the code Keith had done originally for it haha). With the changes, it's kind of made us rethink how much sP each point should be worth for when we take people's last points away and give them sP.

But yeah, Ariel or I will post on that thread today with some of our plans/goals/hopes/dreams/etc for the shop and what not. :)

You should thank Amber because I was gonna YOLO y'all (not really but kind of really?). I think this system is going to be a great compromise and the pricing actually worked out really well I was shocked SHOCKED that can count. Leaving it open for now because we want to do the sP payout as it closes so it doesn't leave anyone all WHERE MY POINTS AT?

Not really sure why brainstorming about the new shops should have any impact on closing the old shops on the day staff originally said...? It's not like we were told that the new shop would open the same day or anything...

I just answered that.

We wanted to have the point conversion sorted out at the time of closing so that we can pay it out right then and there. We're finalizing that right now :)

Er... Still seems like that was something that could have been hammered out before the news post was even made? Better late than never I suppose. :)

The point of the news post was to gather feedback and suggestions, which we were able to utilize :)

I've kind of been skirting around the issue, but I want to say that I do agree with . The initial announcement gave a solid date (May 10th) and outlined how the new Antique Store would work. I was under the impression that the whole thing had been finalized.

If it was really meant as a brainstorming thread, it probably should have been in the brainstorming sub-forum, and you shouldn't have announced an official date until you knew you could keep it. :/

Honestly, we went in with a solid plan for collections but the feedback was basically "we really don't like this" and people provided suggestions which meant we had to discuss if we wanted to stick with our plan or take in those suggestions and make a good thing for all of us. I'm really happy with our overall compromise on this, we'll still have direct-to-collection but we figured out a way to get wearables/weapons/minions out without account-binding. When we decided to change the way the shop was set up, it meant figuring we had to change how much sP we would be reimbursing people (because we decided against the flat rate for items that we originally had set up). We all (battle admins, ariel and I, programmers, etc) finally agreed on a point to sP number (which means we can release old weapons too yay).

While usually I'm a stickler for deadlines, I'm really glad the original "hey guys here's what's going to go down" board was more turned into a "wow let us know how you really feel, let's rethink this".

Because uhh yeah... the first time that "hey let's turn things people paid a lot for into underpriced versions but it's tied to the account so it's okay right?" idea was thrown out there it received a massive tidal wave of fecal matter, and while I can guesstimate why that bad idea was revived... I'm very very glad it went down about as well as it did the first time and that hopefully what comes from this is far more appealing for everyone (and a better sP sink) and that this bad idea stays dead for good this time.

Just like the first time, cool things tied to accounts is a cool idea for new releases that people didn't spend a lot of time/effort/money obtaining, or for things that literally costed nothing and people have by chance (cruise hair styles, zombie skins, old trophies, [some of the] retired achievements, old free items, old melody items, etc). This is a bad idea for plot items, cash shop items, old godly weapons, custom wearables, and things of that nature.

So yeah. While the purpose of the original board was changed, and this was changed... I'd be far far more pissed if staff ended up saying "well since some people got mad we're going to just go ahead with our original plan despite how half the site didn't like where this was going, and flat rate point values and how much the direct-to-account items count and also everything's direct-to-account". I feel like this is the lesser of two evils.

Yeah, this is one time when I'm really glad the Feedback thread was taken into account, and the system edited accordingly, because most people really did not like what was going to happen at all.

Better late and with non-collection items, for me :D

At a bare minimum, either or should have posted something in the news and/or the Announcement thread on the 10th to explain why the shop was still open, and that their initial plans were being reconfigured.

This. It is great that staff takes feedback into consideration. It would be even better if staff was clearer about the things that they were looking for feedback on! Like did here:

We weren't looking for feedback :) We posted our concept and intended to go forward with that, and had a fair bit of it written. We got a lot of feedback on that thread which made us change the focus of the feature (which required a lot of rewriting and there is still additional code to do) and pushed back our internal date of giving out sP for points by a bit.

So yes, we should have updated the original timeline but I'm glad things worked out this way, for everyone :)

Surely you can see what caused me to think and say what I did. I did not think you guys were looking for feedback, until a member of your staff said that you were. ;)

The first part made me sad, but then the second part made me happy. xD Glad there was a compromise found.

I think staff should just have Speiro's deadline thread bookmarked to avoid missing deadlines.
